Am sure many of you have spoken about this plenty of times but after a great result today this just came up again.
Why is the whole of sheffields radio and media obsessed with sheffield wednesday i pick up the sheffield star and its all about the £22m redevelopement of Hillsborough and sodjie is back to score goals. They are all over radio Sheffield talking to Brian laws about what a great result beating scunthorpe at home and how they ''outplayed'' Newcastle apparently satistics say different and not to mention scunthorpe will be one of the worst away sides in the division this is on the day we produced a 3-1 AWAY win at Reading. I then pick up the green un and wednesday picture and them mentioned first. Sorry should they just rename them all The sheffield wednesday star, The blue and white un and Radio sheffield wednesday. They are a has been side who had no success over the last 25 years plus apart from a win in the rumbelows cup No F A cup semis or championship palyoff finals in the last ten years or 25,000 plus fans every home game i see 20,000 today and scunthorpe will have brought a few.
Any way am rambling on i love the Blades and love hearing about them on the tv and newspaper but its never locally.

I know this is a real real bastard it just seems somehow after all the things we do we fail to get noticed...

There is some kinda thing that the media seems to think the pigs are a bigger club than us :(.

What is goin on ey? Maybe strap ons paying the media off :D

We get branded with being the 'Team that sues people' because we had the tenacity to stick up for ourselves
They get branded a 'Big team' which they so aren't, they we're ish once but now, no way.

Sheffield Wendy Star is/has been but hopefully won't always as be biased towards them as Look Leeds is towards the Dirties

Goes back to things like Save Our Shit campaign or what ever it was called.

do you no why wednesday are increasing the stadium to 44,000 so they can put all fans into one stand.

O is it to make it look like less people are going and it coming more empty

< thank me if it's true

The Star/green`un are under the belief that shit & shock sells papers. Put good news on the front page ie; A Blades win & everything is normal, however put some shock & gore on the front , a pigs win, or an upgrade of a dilapidated dungheap over at S6 & well , it`s like Fred West isn`t it?. Unbelievable, horrible but supposedly a paper seller.

I prefer the good news stories mesen.

I'm afraid 'twas ever thus. In the 60s (first time I remember), it was all Wendy and as recently as ten years ago my local (S10) was full of gobby Wendyites (most never went to games but didn't half mouth off about 'Sheffield Wednesday' in that weird, smug way they have.)

I've raised this before on a previous Blades site :hello: and some people think that the idea that the Stir and Steam Radio Sheffield are biased to the pigs is nonsense ('Why should a business alienate 50% of their customers?').
Fact is, they are biased and always have been.
I'll bet that the pigs are the main story on the back page of the Stir 8 nights out of ten, and it's usually a non-story ('Laws says the Owls are going for it').
And the pitifully inept Radio Sheff has that gobshite Pearson as their 'expert summariser'.
It probably goes back to when Wendy were the biggest team in Sheffield. Dads loyalties passed down to sons etc. which we know aren't easily broken.
It will probably get worse now that Slim Strafford is bringing his own brand of lies and spin to proceedings. It's all bullshit, but when you're scratching around for copy to fill the Stir ('Man bites dog in Hackenthorpe' can only go so far) they're obviously going to print any old crap that Strafford spews out.

Solutions? Never waste money of the Stir. It's an embarrassment. Don't listen to Radio Sheffield as it is the kind of pap hairdressers have on in the salon (Hi, Smashie!). Be proud that our much-maligned team have now been top dogs in Sheffield for over 9 years and will be capturing future generations of fans.
And finally, United, drop this 'joint bid' for the World Cup as Wendy still have friends in high places (Richards) just as they did in the '60's (Eric Taylor) and, should the WC come to Sheffield, I've no doubt who will pull the strings and grease the right palms to get it. 3 or 4 weeks ago I bought the Stir (for the last time) and there was a picture of Laws with Angela Knight (MP for Swillsborough) with the latter saying 'Of course, as MP for Hillsborough, I will be backing Wednesday's bid.'
So, if for no other reason, hate Wendy with a passion because they are, and always have been, synonymous with failed Labour politicians.
Now I'm totally apolitical - I effin' hate all of them - but would you support a team that has the likes of Betts, Blunkett, Ashton, Hattersley and other such illuminateri?

Up the Blades. Never surrender!

I agree with most of this on here.

Was working yesterday and got in the car to drive home and all radio sheffield could talk about is the.... and i quote 'champagne football' they have seen at pigsborough today!

They were playing Scunthorpe for gods sake, the worst side in the division! GGGGGRRRRRRRR

What surprises me is that others are still shocked by the bias towards Wendy from the Star. It's like still being shocked by rain in summer, or presents on December 25th. The Star loves Wendy. We are simply the upstarts, as far as they are concerned. The "Save Our Owls" campaign and the fact, as mentioned by Grafikhaus, that they the club of failed Labour politicians, show the bias that the "establishment" has towards Wendy.

I think many are resigned now to us being that big, physical side of hoofballers who play 'hack, tackle, and bollocks' for the whinging 'just not quite good enough' club who will sue anyone, anytime, for anything.

You know what I say? Feck em all and burn the rest. We're Blades and rightly proud of it, whatever anyone else thinks...

The Blades are always guaranteed the headlines if it happens to be bad news, with BIG BOLD CAPITALS usually, but don't be surprised if they don't run another campaign similar to 'Save Our Owls' for Strafford to boost their fan base.
I was amused at how Radio Sheffield were crying out for the Owls fans to phone in, to make it a real 'praise the Owls' fest. They did beat Scunthorpe you know.

Went to watch Wednesday yesterday with my other half (using father-in-law's spare S/T) and TBF, Wednesday did play well. Champagne Football? Wouldn't go that far! They were effective and certainly deserved their 4-0 result. However, Scunthorpe were absolutely dreadful and will go down with single digit points if they carry on like that. Nothing to get as excited as Radio Sheffield got about. And as for Strafford, what an embarrassment he was!

To be honest i rarely buy the Star/Green 'Un or listen to Radio Sheffield nowadays, as i have all the media i want at my fingertips on the Internet.

The only time i will be inclined to buy the Green 'Un is when i'm heading back from town after a few sherberts after the match, and i usually only buy it for the match report.

The only thing that i really enjoy reading apart from the match report is the fanscene bit Matthew Bell writes for the green 'un, and the letters page to see what gibberish the various assorted goons, imbeciles and no-mark who support the local clubs can trot out that particular week.

The same thing goes with Radio Sheffield, i'll only ever listen to it if i'm in the car driving somewhere and football heaven is heavily populated by semi-brain dead moron who like the sound of their own voices and people who i would happily put a gun to the head of. (example Ricardo).

An interesting point is now the Star makes very little money from selling papers, and makes it all from advertising revenue and family notices. I placed a family notice in a few months back and it was the equivelent of selling 200 Stars for a small piece

...and chuff the Green 'un. It's gone up AGAIN, and is full of pigshit.
Boycott the Stir and Green un I say!

The Green Un focus' on Blades when we're at home, Pigs when they're at home.

The pigs have put their plans out there this week for their redevelopment and just like us, they rolled it out to the local media.

There is a little biase towards the pigs but not that much. They gave Laws and Strafford their air time and it was Laws and Strafford that were statistically wrong, not the Media. My issue is that the media should've picked up on the stats and questionned Laws about the Newcastle game!

Let them have their moment this week, but the main news will be always about us as we're the team that lives up to the hype.

I've also found that in general, the media generate a lot of hype for us, but the pigs have to generate all the hype they can get.

Slightly disagree there. I still buy the Green Un as its something that connects me to my dad who died 16 years ago. He bought it every saturday and it was something that bonded us. Consequently I've been reading the Green Un for over 50 years. It also covers local and lower league football which I take an interest in as a sometimes supporter of Worsbrough Bridge fc in the N E Counties league. I also enjoy the letters page and Mathew Bell column. So many things have disappeared over the years I would be very upset if another quality aspect of my life went the same way

Its been like it for years ............

The sty was practically re built for the 1966 world cup with government money. I'm surprised the planners have given the green light to the development of BDTBL ;)

The answer is because the pigs are MASSIVE.
