Jamie Ward

I think I will trust a manager who has had nothing but success in the last couple of years rather than a few fans on a forum.

Adkins had a lot of success on his CV but it didn't stop him making some crazy transfer deals. It also proved to be his downfall.

You do know Wilder signed: Donaldson, Heneghan, Hussey, Carruthers, Thomas. Not all his signings are good as much as we all like him.

Well Donaldson wasn’t a bad signing! Yes of course he is going to get things wrong but I still trust him to get most right. And if he signs Ward and he thinks he can do a job that’s good enough for me and he certainly hasn’t lost he plot because of it.

I recon Wilder is upping the age of the team in an attempt to make a come back with Tony Currie.

I thought we were shopping in Aldi or Lidel, appears we were looking round oxfam ffs

More like the back of bins. "Yeah, so we bid 5 mill for Waghorn but we could get Jamie Ward instead for free."

Tbf to Wilder if that's the pool he's been told to fish in......

If...and it's only a rumour at this stage...Jamie Ward is training with us, it is probably an arrangement which is a favour to the lad, from CW. It's a no lose situation to have a look at him in training and it costs us nowt to look and assess.

If he really impresses in training and if CW deems him as better than what we have or can obtain either in the first team or as a back up player for the money he will cost and within our budget, and if he has shown he has overcome previous injury issues, then and only then might we look to offer Ward something.

I'm sure CW and his staff are fully aware of Jamie's injury record and on the slim chance he is offered something, I would expect him to come very cheap and on a performance related, low pay, short contract basis.

If he is here then it is on a very low risk basis and it would be purely on Utd's terms..out of contract players at this stage are getting a little edgy, or maybe even desperate.

I always rated Jamie even last season whenever I saw him on the pitch. But that's the thing. Getting him on the pitch regularly was the key. Unless CW is totally convinced then he won't be signed. No drama here imo.

To be fair, considering we probably ruined his career by making him play on the wing when he signed as a promising striker, we probably owe him a favour. Although, I remember him getting himself sent off

As said elsewhere Donaldson did the job he was signed for - ref Knill's comments about him being a good signing if he gets half a dozen or so for us [c/f our other 'target' - Cole]
Heneghan & Thomas still on our books so opportunity to 'make it' or make money out of 'em - reckon they both suffered from our [unexpected ?] progress last season meaning we needed improvements on their potential.
Can't recall many [any] folk criticising the Caruthers signing or indeed his performances in 3rd division - clearly wasn't able [couldn't be arsed ?] to step up the following season
Paid next to nowt for Hussey - surely worth a punt @ that time- after all the other [older] signing on that day hasn't done too bad for us & I'm not sure there was universal approval for our signing of a Birmingham AND Burton 'reject'
Ward is a year younger scored more in around same amount of games - perhaps he's earmarked to replace Duffy ?

If we only sign two players and Ward is one of them then the other better be Eden Hazard.

Just because you have more faith in Wilder than any manager for a long time, doesn't mean you suddenly stop having opinions.

I thought Hammond could be a great signing but I didn't realise how fucked he'd become.

I'd be hugely underwhelmed by Ward if he signed but if so, hopefully I'd be proved wrong again.

People aren't robots. Messageboards are about opinions. You can't expect everyone to suddenly lose the ability for thought and just walk around in a trance like state repeatedly chanting 'I trust Wilder'

OH YES YOU CAN.

It's what good Blades do.

I was totally underwhelmed when we signed Ricky Holmes, but he only plays a minor role at the minute cos he’s not proven he’s better than what we have... will be the same with Ward so there’s no drama... if he starts banging them in it’s brilliant... if he doesn’t well he cost nowt so no problem

That's what I wanted to see, bringing someone in to start reducing the average age of the team...oh wait.....how old?
Future planning .......if you can only see to the next 6 months.
I can cope with adding McG as a one off, but not Ward and looking to add Nugent as well!!!

Even if he was actually fit:

- he doesn't score enough goals to be used as a forward
- Wilder doesn't play wingers

So it would be a bit pointless, but perhaps reflective of our inability to compete with our peers in the transfer market, as is usually the case when we have a good manager.
