Obviously there’s a few further down but they are all extremely unlikely to have a chance at promotion. Personally think people are overhyping Leeds and Norwich on that list. There is definite value in us,Brentford or Preston to go up in my opinion.

But what are everybodies thoughts?

Personally not sure on Forest. Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota were two of the best players in Portugal and European level talents. Nuno is a European level manager.

People are inevitably comparing them as they have signed portugese players using Mendes but completely different levels of players imho. Still quite a few average players there.

However, that being said I think they will push for top 6.

Very early to bet because business is getting done later than usual.

But Stoke will surely be up there - I'll be shocked if they're not in the top 3.

Boro will 1-0 the shit out of it and finish top 6.

Leeds need to get some business done but they will, and I think they'll be right up there for most of the season. Could be the pace setters.

Brentford are a great outside bet because they're keeping Ryan Woods and have a number of players who I expect to improve and have good seasons, like Mepham, Maupay and Watkins.

We're also a decent outside bet if we get quality in, but that's a huge if.

Leeds are probably signing the likes of Vydra, Hugill and Barry Douglas. They'll be strong. Will also be quite fresh and unpredictable with Bielsa in charge. They could be a bit like we were in the first half of last season.

Yes but we can’t say they’ll do well on who they ‘might’ sign. I agree that they would make the team strong, however, living on Leeds I hear a lot about them:

Douglas is dependent on wolves’ incomings
Vydra deal looks dead as he wants too much in wages
A lot of competition for Hugill

However, as they currently stand they are nowhere near challenging. They have Kemar Roofe as their first choice striker!

I can see Stoke, Swansea, WBA, Forest, Leeds, Boro, Norwich and Villa all around the top.

I think Wigan will be a surprise package and Blackburn will do well.

As for the rest, it depends on what happens over the next 10 days. Hull will be better. Preston, Brentford and ourselves will probably be scrapping around mid-table, but depends on what ins and outs happen.

Yes you can. That’s exactly how the bookies work! The odds reflect the likely outcomes (as well as the volume of stakes that have already been placed). If there is a good chance of Leeds signing some top players, then the bookies would shorten the odds.

You've got to factor in some of the shorter odds are down to the amount of money being lumped on by the bigger fan bases at the big clubs, that includes ours.

Unless Wilder gets at least 2 maybe 3 decent players in, I think we'll be lower-mid at best next season. Seeing Evans and Lundstrum tossing it off in midfield and no pace up top I saw no difference between the team and performance v Inter and many performances in the second half of last season (where we were getting a points return of a lower mid team). I'm hoping Egan will make for an improvement defensively but as for further forward we are currently worse off, we are the same as last season minus Brooks. Plus if Wilder is seeing Evans and Lundstrum as the way forward in midfield (I'd personally give Leonard a run at at centre mid, in a defensive centre mid role), then we're going to get opened up again far too easily. Until Coutts returns I think Wilder needs to wise up about what he wants from his midfield. LE and JL aren't a patch on Coutts and a more defensive midfield player in that role would at least help to shut the back door.

b) Neither Stoke nor Boro will do as well as the odds suggest

In my experience of working in the industry Traders often neglect the EFL, hence why if you’re smart you can make some serious money. It’s not that they neglect, but they wouldn’t have the knowledge of Wednesday’s issues around FFP or if they did they wouldn’t know as much we possibly do as they’re not from the city etc.

They do get insider tips from consultancies/freelances on the payroll but the detail isn’t there, especially in the EFL.

I disagree. Swansea I don’t think will be up there. Agree on Norwich- think we will finish above them.

Wouldn’t say Preston and Brentford have no chance, good young players with excellent managers improving all the time.

If lots of Wednesday fans had a 'hunch' that they would be making good signings, they should become favourites, due to the weight of betting. Speculation of signings = more bets placed = shorter odds.
