Holmes was in the Copthorne for the Wednesday home game wasn't he? Does that count as an unveiling?

There's some typical Sheff-elders on here

I suppose the question being asked is not whether £5m is peanuts for a decent striker, but whether Waghorn is that said decent striker

Good stats last season no doubt. Not done it consistently tho. Let's hope he continues to produce

Also, I'd like to add, in Wilder we trust
He wouldn’t cost £5m if he’d done it consistently.

Good point

I was speaking to an Ipswich fan today. He said tbh, he would snatch our hands off at £5m. He said he would accept £3m. Means fk all of course, but I suppose if CW and his staff see the potential there for our club then that's what matters

Do you know why he's worth £5m? Because Wilder wants him and they want to keep him.

Players are worth what people are willing to pay. 7 or 8 million is getting daft but this is what happens when you want to nick players that teams want to keep hold of and if we want to start shopping in this market then we have to get used to that.

Man United have paid over the odds for years, the difference is 1) they are huge enough to unsettle players and force the parent clubs hand and 2) they are minted so it doesn't matter.

It's all relative, that fans job isn't on the line either though. Sell him with 2 weeks left of a transfer window and risk not replacing him, getting relegated and losing your job as a manager.
There's a few aspects to this that's bumping the fee up.

This^^^

Once you go from picking up out of contract players, you have to pay enough to tempt the club to sell. Once that player’s a striker all bets are off, there’s no value to be had.

Moving us forward from here was always going to cost a fortune for not much in return.

If he joins and we get to Pens in play off final this is what I want to see.

He played for Rangers so he got plenty of opportunities to practice his technique. He's know as "Waghorn (pen)" up here due the sheer amount of spot kicks he took during his Ibrox tenure.

That said, I actually really rate him as a forward. Good signing of it comes off.

He’s been waiting for his representatives at the train station for hours, it’s definitely on the cards this transfer.

I made this joke last time with Quina and that other lad we nearly signed, but it bears repeating:

'He's been at the train station so long he actually managed to get served in The Tap!'.

James Beattie (first time) against Notts Florists in a friendly ;)

I'll never forget milling around in the South Stand car park before that Forest friendly and seeing Beattie walk down and be hustled through South Stand reception by some Lane staff. For pretty much the first time in all my years supporting United, seeing Beattie rock up that day, it felt like we were finally going to start punching our weight and show the sort of ambition commensurate with the size of the club.

The optimism didn't last long, of course.

Me too. Had the old man with me when they announced it and they brought him on to the pitch (not my dad ;) ). What a signing and he was awesome the first time around.

Let's hope we are hesding that way again but with out the daft salaries attached!

Sadly he had a drink in the Tap and got straight back on the train and went home. He wanted a Carling or Fosters, not something " bitter, crisp and wheaty"a fifty year old virgin had stirred with his cock during the brewing.

Vern is flattered you think he's 50, and says he had to stir it with that as it added more Yeast

Sounds pretty good, where can I buy this Sean?

Why?

Wheaty beers are fucking horrible, mind.
