The Wage Structure

I give up.

Which bit of we lose about £4m every year, don't you understand?

He's ignoring it. The argument is that the £4m pays for players and wages plus any increases and that losses, possible cash flow problems and player disharmony are to be ignored.
Personally, I'd rather Wilder value players, decide their worth and let Bettis oversee the financial side. At least they know the full story and deal with the actualities of real pound notes.

The bit that I don't understand is that no club other than United will sell their best player for £12m with the sole aim of covering their losses for the next 3 years. That must be United's unique definition of forward planning. It's also called negativity, lack of ambition and a zero sum game.

Now that's a different question. One incidentally that, at least for this season, HRH seems happy with.

Coutts. Fleck.
Best two midfield players bar NONE in the 35 years I’ve neen going to the lane. Cost what?? 200k maybe plus wages??
Robson paid silly money achieved nothing like those players.

Really? Brown @ £350k and McCall for free. Also Jags (free) spent half his United career in midfield. All with a pedigree at a level higher than the two you mentioned.

The last 35 years also includes Glen Cockeril, Gordan Cowans, John Gannon, Gary Speed, and Don Hutchinson who all played at a higher level than our two current wonder Scots.

Yep. I stick to that.
Brown had goals, but not what those two have.
McCall when we had him was still good but his legs were gone. Fleck reminds me of McCall in many ways when similar ages.
Jags...always a centre half. Not good enough on the ball for midfield.

Coutts- one of the best for ball retention, knowing where to turn, his touch and control are sublime.
Fleck..not quite as above but with extra bite, and shooting ability!! Helluva player!

You can suggest as many as you like, not going to budge on this one I’ve thought hard about this

Maybe our aquabbling leaders are making the business more attractive to potential buyers by covering losses for the next 3 years? I suspect that both parties, should they gain overall control , want out, getting the highest possible price.

And we’re all past their very best, except Gannon...who I’m sorry isn’t deserving of being among that company.

You're as much entitled to your opinion as I am so no problem there. However as ISC pointed out in the post above yours, in addition to the ones I nominated, the key point is they all played (and excelled) for us at a much higher level than Fleck or Coutts. League 1 and middling champ is no yardstick, it's like comparing any of them with Currie.

It’s my opinion, and I’m basing it on them as players now, in the game as it is now.
I know what type of midfield player I like, and those two have it all for me.
Nobody has come close.
Not disputing some others prior to United were perhaps better, but in a United shirt it’s still no other player for me.
I never saw Currie. And wouldn’t comment on any player I had never seen, hence 35 years.

Gannon...who I’m sorry isn’t deserving of being among that company.

He was a regular in our 3 seasons back from 91-94. Two of these were in the Premier League when 'football began'.

Just look again at some of Deane and Bryson's goals and who see who invariably threads through the pass they run onto.

Both Fleck and Coutts are great players but haven't played above the Championship yet. They may be able to make the step up, but that is conjecture.

The players I listed, all played at least 100 games at the top level.

Yep, I know. But the game has changed, is much more possession based and dependant on the players at your disposal. I’m sure if Coutts and Fleck had a Deane or Agana to aim for running in behind then they might just have a fair amount of success to.
Gannon wouldn’t cope in today’s side IMHO.

I know its a stretch, and I know its really difficult to understand, but, what if, just humor me for a second, I know its a stretch, BUT Wilder didnt want Blackman on a permanent deal? What if he was too expensive for a keeper of his talent in the eyes of wilder? What if Wilder preferred Henderson? What if a keeper isnt a position that Wilder thought it best to go and blow a huge chunk of our budget on?

You sound like Bill Hicks, which isn’t a bad thing. You’l might be 100% correct with you take on the Blackman situation, and at the end of the day CW is the man at the helm. My view point for what it is worth & one which I’m now repeating is that I don’t like it when we scrimp on keepers & loan them in, it brings back bad memories, from marvellous Mervin day, Hans segars, Bunn, etc. Secondly, I can’t see sense in loaning a critical position in a rising market. Thirdly, Blackman was well & truly bedded in, we have to build that again from scratch. Fourthly, and possibly most pessimistically the new lad might be absolute gash. But I’m just a moronic armchair pundit. :)

Bunn.... *shudders* ..... im not saying I agree with the approach, but more was using it to draw up a point that no one has any idea what goes on behind the scenes and why CW makes the decisions he does. Blackman just signed for Leeds on loan.. GLTTL? ;/

Wilder said in the last interview I heard that "we have got the best keeper in the EFL"

I think that explains why we have signed Henderson and not Blackman.

On loan?

I thought Chelsea wanted to sell him?

Maybe we're not the only ones that wouldn't pay the price?

This is my worry. The last two loanees we got from Man U were fucking wank. Wilder obviously didn't think so about the latter of the two or he wouldn't have signed him.

For anyone wondering Jack Marriott is valued at £6.5mil by Peterborough. And people think he's in any way a realistic or 'cheaper' alternative for us.

Fucking lord above.

Compromise and patience. It’s a game of brinksmanship, really. And other targets are being looked at aside from the other two, Chris isn’t camped outside Villa Park ignoring everyone else :D

You’re complicating matters now. You don’t seriously think you can be interested in several players at once, some of them as contingencies?

No, no, no. If your main need is for a centre-forward, that must be resolved, signed, sealed and delivered before you even think about anyone else.

Why are we going for an ‘X’ when we need a ‘Y’ is the usual Bladey lament, especially with the season kicking-off tomorrow. Isn’t it?...

Hutchison, much to my regret because I was ecstatic when we signed who I saw as a proper footballer, was absolute bobbins for us. A goal scoring playmaker who did neither.

What is the relevance of two entirely different players being wank?

Anyway, we’re fucked for ten years. Darling David’s gone.
