Udinese Worst Night At The Lane Ever?

Was that the match where we had most of the team sent off?

Charlie Hartfield< Nathan Blake, Glyn Hodges and Dave Bassett all were sent off that night. Amazingly they only had one sent off...We lost 1-2 that Cup was a farce.

That was the first game I went to with just me and my brother (no adult supervision). We sat on the Bramall Lane lower and some bloke complained that he could have been at home “seeing if Deirdre in Corry got her leg over”! And that was the highlight of the game.

We left early the one single time ever in my lifetime of attending the Lane...

I say left early, what this actually meant was standing on the South Stand walkway and watching til the final whistle near the exit.

That told em!

And had she?

You’ve not done that until you’ve stood there mouthing obscenities at no one in particular about never ‘f**king’ coming back.

Not that I know of anyone who’s done this :-)

They scored a brilliant goal that was grudgingly applauded by the home fans if I remember.

I was there in the Bramall Lane lower. Barmy night indeed but interesting for me because Udinese are my favourite foreign team. I have 6 or 7 shirts and started "following" them after they signed Zico (he was the inferior Brazilian version of TC for you young ones).
They have had other half decent players on their books.
Dion Zoff.
Alexis Sanchez.
Oliver Bierhoff.
Stephen Appiah.
Di Natalie.
Always seemed to have dodgy owners/directors and play in stripes...no wonder I was attracted.

Used to have a player called Poggi and I purchased a match worn shirt . Quite proud when I wore it until some twat tapped me on the shoulder and said "yes, you are". Twat.

I once had an argument with someone who was convinced I was mistaken about seeing Udinese at the Lane as ‘they wouldn’t have been in Serie B’.

If I remember correctly, in the Anglo-Italian Cup you had an Italian ref for the games in England and an English ref for the games in Italy. The ref seemed to be very biased as Udinese played like modern South America teams, they fell over as soon as they were touched.

It wasn’t the worst game at the Lane, nor was it the weirdest, surely that has to be the Battle of Bramall Lane?

I remember this tournament existing, never went to one of the games sadly so looked it up out of interest...

The final of that season saw Oliver Bierhoff's Ascoli defeated by Notts County, managed by Howard Kendall and featuring Shaun Murphy, Chris Short, Paul Devlin and goalscorer Tony Agana. Never realised we had so much in common in this period.

For those that missed it or were too young, they made Columbia look like a proper set of pansies

Would the Walsall match in 1981 be the worst ever?

Not a night match.

Worst night? Feb 7, 2009 when that cunt Blackwell let Sheffield Wednesday do the double over us for the first - and only - time. The sight of Brian Laws running down the touchline holding a blue & white scarf aloft at FT made me retch,

With Inter Milan coming to the Lane. It reminded me of one of the worst nights at the Lane, never seen such a dirty side, at least Charlie Hartfield gave them something to remember us by ...Who remembers that night?
I do they worse than the dirty cheating columbians...twots the lot of em....
