Brooks agent looks Familiar

In this case, Brooks agent has done well for him, but what about the wider picture? It's pissed off thousands of fans, could have upset the balance of the team and got other players thinking of a move themselves.

In what sense has he done well for him? From a short term financial sense maybe. From a long term footballing and financial sense I do not think so, because I can't see how Brooks is going to get any starts down Bournemouth. He has a lot of talent but I think he still needs a lot of development. He'll probably spend the next few years living out of a suitcase getting loaned around clubs in the Championship, whether that will be good for him depends on a lot really

But we only initially gave McDonald a year contract didn’t we? Then when we negotiated to extend it, following POFFU4, wasn’t it at for a reduced wage? Hence the release clause. My understanding at the time was we thought no other club in L1 would activate it as they wouldn’t want to pay his wages (which were still high for L1) Then Wolves got relegated with parachute money.

If he's worth some of the amounts being bandied about on here then he should be a starter. How many outside the top eight have £20m players on the bench.

I don't think it matters what the figure is these days. What seems a lot one year is peanuts the next. The Premier League has yet another mega bucks TV deal and Bournemouth are owned by a Russian Billionaire.

He wasn't a regular starter at the Lane. Some games he was great, others he was anonymous and I thought his efforts to track back looked generally half hearted to say the least. Clearly he has a lot to learn, if he'd have stayed put Wilder and Knill would have knocked the kinks out and eventually he'd have become Duffys replacement (I assume).

Harry Maguire is probably where he is now because he'd played 150 games at United before he was 21. He learned all the tricks of the trade and was ready. I think Brooks should have done the same.

Brooks has 30 Champ appearances for us last season alone (yes, many as sub). Kyle Walker played for us twice before Tottenham bought him and look where he is (Russia). What's your point Mcgrath. Of course you are fed up he has gone but don't pretend it's not a good move for him. He will be on well over 20 grand a week and at a Prem club. As an added bonus his mate Ramsdale will show him the ropes there. GLTTL.

My point is that he probably won't have as good a career now as he would have if he'd have 'developed' with us.

It's said time and time again that the young English players have the talent and are developed in the academies with as good a technique anywhere. But the simply can't get game time for their clubs. Couple that with being paid too much to young and for many their careers are over before they start... the amount of talent that drifts out of the game is tragic.

Frankly, apart from a few sub appearances. I can't see him getting much game time at Bournemouth and I certainly don't think they'll be as remotely interested in his development as United would be. It'll be sink or swim for him and unless he does something amazing straight a way it'll be sink and he'll then be farmed off on loan to a succession of Championship clubs who'll be expecting him to produce the goods week in week out. His career will probably get set back by 4 or 5 years by which time he'll be yesterday's news.

But hey ho , his agent will have got a new Ferrari

Pedant alert: 7 times actually.

2 in the FA cup, 2 in the league proper and 3 in the play offs, inlcuding becoming the youngest ever Blade to play at Wemberlee.

He was sold on 22/7/09 together with KN.

He'll probably console himself with his financial advisor's report telling him that he's made his first million.

Just found out that Tony Blair’s son is a football agent. I can’t think of a better teacher for him than that snake oil salesman.

That he might do. But for me Brooks went to soon, just as Slew, Che Adams and others did, they saw the money and jumped. The likes of Maguire and Lowton hung around and learned their trade and will have very successful careers because of it

Dom Calvert-Lewin..........:)

I completely agree with that and I would add Jagielka to your second list too.

Trouble is that it is at best a short career and injury or loss pf form could finish it at any time.

That makes it understandable why young players look at the here and now and grab the big bucks whilst they can.

Many of them wouldn't get a second chance

At last, been hard work today trying to find something to complain about although I did get satisfaction on Facebuk when a poster alluded to the Japanese team as nippy. Here we go, hair racist, you should be ashamed of yourself. Roll on August...

Went to Everton who didn't replace Lukaku, got lucky as this meant he ended up starting games.

Don't think this will be the case next season. He'll likely be loaned out.

Got lucky!!!!!! (on 55 separate occasions, 43 being Prem games!) o_O
