Brooks agent looks Familiar

Having fleeced the club for about £5m over an insipid 3 year period, he has found it in his heart to fleece young golden balls for about another £1m.

You deserve each other.

The good news is we have a man at the head of our football club that has the morale compass to see through any bullshit of this type, and will lead us to greater things, given time.

Horrenderson will end up in some cesspool no doubt.

Awful footballer (in the loosest sense of the word) and if the word on the street is even remotely close, a stinker of a human being to boot.

Given him good advice IMHO. Howe is a quality manager and he’ll have a decent chance of game time at Bournemouth.

Ps - Hendo is a tosser but then I always thought that.

Always detested football agents. Fagin from Oliver springs to mind. Hand wringing whilst talking to the players on their books is how I'd imagine these gutter snipes.

The only players who should have an agent or those whose can't speak the language or cannot read & write.

They should introduce agent cull's where fans can pick up hessian sacks and baseball bats.

Henderson pissed me off years ago when I spoke to him on a night out in Donny and he pretended he didn’t know who he was. Dick. Now he’s involved in the Brooks move he’s even more of a dick.

Why can't the club ban these hideous parasites and refuse any dealings with any of them, except the decent ones (if there are any).

So next time a young star decides to switch agent after a signing a new contract. We say well that's all right but he's 'persona non grata' here and we won't discuss anything with him, so either negotiate yourself or see out your contract... end of

Would we ban Wilder's agent or is he OK?

Just trying to clarify the forum rules?

Henderson has been a regular visitor to Stocksbridge last season for SUFC U23 games. The word often goes around the handful of fans who get up there - seen who is here? - who is he working for now? etc.
To my untrained eye, you can't detect who is working for future opponents, who is working for a club who might want to sign a player & who is an agent working for a player.
For eg in my mind Chris Morgan has turned up at different times in all three capacities. Currently, I believe he is an Agent.
The realities of the "ban these parasites" comments don't play out in the real world. Sorry Mr Morgan you're not welcome at this SUFC U23 game v Coventry at Stocksbridge.
When he was managing previous clubs, and before he'd found out what "ultimatum" meant, Wilder was a very frequent visitor to U18 games at Shirecliffe.
Hi Chris, I know we chucked you out when you came to see the U18 game v Barnsley, but we'd like you to be our Manager now.
The most frequent "scout" at SUFC U23 games is Jamie Hoyland.
Football has a very complex set of relationships.
Scouts, agents, parasites - all welcomed with open arms. Have a tea in the Directors Room.
Partly because we need our scouts, agents & parasites to be welcomed when we try to get someone else's player to break his contract & sign for us.
Just thought I'd share my view on "the reality"

Interesting point. Jack O'Connell's agent is a cunt if he leaves us for Brighton but when he left Brentford for the Blades, GLTTL!

Ban the ones that are blatantly greedy scumbags

Good idea McGrath. However, I've just checked the FA list of Registered Intermediaries (as agents are now called) and Darius Henderson is on it and so is authorised by the FA to act as an intermediary for players and additionally is authorised by the FA to represent minors. So it would appear he is OK and Brooks (and the forum intelligentsia) can rest easy.

Henderson works for Unique Sports Management which is also registered and authorised by the FA to represent players.

I must tell you this has come as quite a relief for me as it is one fewer person for me to hate and loath completely irrationally! o_O

The Secret Footballer has some interesting points on agents. Fundamentally he points out that clubs use them just the same as players do. And players drive agents much more than the reverse.

So it’s empty posturing when McCabe decries their role in football. Either that or he really doesn’t understand how these things work.

But all that said, could I dislike Darius Henderson any more? I doubted it until now...

I'd bet he knows exactly how it works and understands that players hold all the cards these days. We saw that with greedy twat McDonald. Club offer new contract, player/agent want buy out clause. Club and player can't agree on amount, player turns down contract. Club could lose player for next to nothing.

Can you imagine JO'C's agent advising his client that a £15m buy out figure - suggested on here - would be okay?

Not just the forum rules - life's rules. There's no comparison. This needs firming up at contract re-negotiation stage, given the pivotal nature of an agent on a player's career. When a player signs an initial or subsequent contract it should be on the basis that it only applies with the current agent in place, if not the contract is void. We could (I know it's unlikely) sign a £10m striker and then he switches his agent to Jorges Mendes. His contract wouldn't be worth the paper it's printed on. It would be like the club saying 'You know we agreed on £X a week? Well now we've got a new accountant who says it should only be £Y a week.'

In this case, Brooks agent has done well for him, but what about the wider picture? It's pissed off thousands of fans, could have upset the balance of the team and got other players thinking of a move themselves.

I can’t imagine that, but I’d have no real complaints either as it’s excessive and not in the interests of the player unless it’s balanced by an similarly excessive salary.

Spot on that Phil its the way it is in what is a relatively small community I suppose the more agents and managers we see at Stocksbridge the more recognition of the way we nurture our young players. No doubt Paul Mitchel and his contacts does the same for us.

Academy player recruitment lives or dies on REPUTATION. We were able to scoop Brooks up after he was binned from Manchester City (partly) because the Academy has a good reputation for treating players well & doing things the right way. If the word went around that Agents were not welcome at The Lane, Shirecliffe, Stocksbridge, reputation would drop & young players wouldn't join.
Let's nail that - because Utd treat Agents well & with respect, we were able to recruit Brooks, develop him, sell him for £12m & use that money any which way.....
I'm not saying it's right. I'm saying it is what it is.

Be nice if this could happen but we must remember the contract is between the club and the player and is enforceable by both of these parties. Brooks would have moved with or without an agent but, particularly with young lads its in their interest to have someone who can help them get the most for their talent. Worth remembering the work agents do to place players at all levels of the game down to non league clubs where the financial returns for them is very small but can be a step to eventually better things.

As fans the whole perception seems to be that it is all the agents fault and had for example Brooks not had a particular agent then the move would have never come about. The reality is Brooks is a talented young player and there has been talk of him being on his bike since he broke into the team and the Wales squad. Why aren't we 'blaming' Eddie Howe? He will have approached Brooks agent to see about the possibility and whether Brooks would consider it.

Under your scheme of 'change agent and the contract is void'. I'm not convinced your plan would be legally enforceable as the contract is with the player not the agent. Well if a player wanted to move he would simply change agents and then the contract would be torn up and he would be free to leave anyway if I have understood you correctly?

A player can only move clubs if another club wants them and if under contract the selling club agrees a fee. Why don't we blame Wilder? Or does Wilder think that at the price £15 mill or whatever it is good for United. Brooks was under contract so the Blades could have simply said no regardless of any tantrums by an agent.

PS Just read your post Baw Heid and you have basically said the same.

I suppose it's natural for ex-players who were once controlled by an agent to become one once their playing days are over. You can't blame them really, they have a good idea of how the "game" is played and have the right contacts. They might as well use that knowledge to their advantage and make some money while doing it.

I posted somewhere, on some thread, that Agents have in the past, "thanked me for" the odd snippet of information they've harvested from my Blog or Social Media.
Often, they come as a double act - an ex player, who knows the ropes, and has the contacts. And someone else with a legal, or financial background.
Some work for larger organisations, they'll be something like Yorkshire, South, Regional Player Liasion Co-Ordinator
Some are small businesses, two of them trying to give it a go in a big pond.

Why does changing an agent have any effect on the players contract with a club?

Bloody hell, I must be a rare creature, one who always rated Darius Henderson before he came to us and one who always thought he did what he was bought for when with us.
And... Saw him at the Lane several times last season, in the directors lounge and he was welcomed royally by all and sundry.
Good job he didn't go on the kop by sound of it!
Mind you, looking at size of him close up and his history of violence, doubt whether any of the name callers on here would have the balls to repeat their descriptions to his face ...

But we only initially gave McDonald a year contract didn’t we? Then when we negotiated to extend it, following POFFU4, wasn’t it at for a reduced wage? Hence the release clause. My understanding at the time was we thought no other club in L1 would activate it as they wouldn’t want to pay his wages (which were still high for L1) Then Wolves got relegated with parachute money.

I too thought he was a good signing. I was so very very wrong.

The fact he could kick my head in if I told him how bad a signing he was doesn't alter that.

Having the opinion he didn't do it for us and calling him from a pig to a dog are however, two different things...
I think he'd spare you :-)
