Leeds sold him to Bournemouth in 2016 for £6 million rising to under £10.
In my opinion a better player than a Brooks, had just won Football league player of the year, had 80 appearances and a more “solid “ unit.
Put into perspective, we have a good deal for Brooks.
Brooks is still lightweight, gets knocked off the ball, cannot tackle, does not have a definite position within the team.
Yes exciting, skilful, takes you off your seat, but does he contribute in the way a good consistent player, admittedly with potential should?
Does he score goals
Does he have a decent shot on him to score from outside the box
Does he consistently retain possession and create
Does he tackle
Does he work hard for the team

Would Wilder have bought the Brooks type of player to fit into his team?

All in all I think a good deal for wilder who would not have sanctioned the deal unless he had been given guarantees of how much he would receive and no doubt has players lined up.

Those of us who don't like the deal are all aware he isn't the finished product. But he genuinely has the potential to be a top 6 premier league team player and we could have seen that development start with us. I don't care about the fee in terms of being disappointed. I've been a United fan for 30 years and he had the potential to be our best attacking player in that time. Its shit that the chance to see that has gone.

A number of things I disagree with in your assessment.

1) That was 2016, transfer fees have moved on a lot since then.

2)Many people are disappointed not in the sale, but th timing of the sale. We believe given time his value would appreciate. He's almost completely unproven, yet has teams willing to gamble 10 million plus on him.So how much would he be worrth after a solid season: double, treble? If Wilder thinks he's getting his peak valuation then why insert a sell on clause in lieu of extra pounds. It appears he agrees that he will only appreciate in value, or he's made an error in prioritising the sell on.

3)Although I like Cook, he seems to be a more of a functional player, than the type of player that has the potential to go for phenomenal fee and play for the biggest clubs in the land..

4)If Wilder isn't prepared to bring in big assets for a song, then he'd be a bit daft.Of course he'd take mercurial talents like Brooks.

5)Financially, 10 million gets you a half decent Championship striker these days.Or a couple of expensive loan signings.

Maybe close to double if he has a blinding season. I’m sure that eventually a championship player will go for more than £35m but I don’t expect it to be within the next year.

The reason why Wilder is inserting a sell on clause is that a proven PL player is worth more than a proven championship player.

If we hold him to his contract though when he wants to leave, his value probably won’t go up that much as he’ll struggle for motivation. At worst he’ll do a Berahino and sulk. His agent will tell him to be a bit disruptive, irritate certain players and the staff, be a bit of a twat, so that we become desperate to get rid. You can ask anyone who makes their living in the game and the majority will tell you there’s little point forcing a player to stay at a club.

You've just encapsulated what I've been clumsily trying to say for the last 24 hours! Top effort!! Have a Like!
