Maguire learned total football at the Blades

Whereas in The Times yesterday he himself said he learnt how to look after himself amongst the basic elements of league 1 and that he was a big lad looking forward to the physical challenges of today.

A bit less than total football !

Some nervous passes from him in the first game but he got stronger as the game went on. He will get better with every tournament he plays in too and this is the first of many.
I knew he was good when he was with us, I just don't think I realised how good. He's going to have a better carreer than Jagz in my eyes.

It was a great moment when he came on and booted Bellamy who had pretty much been refereeing the game and being a tit all game.

Fair play to Bellamy though, at end of game i remember him coming upto Big Harry and shaking his hand and congratulating him.

Been a great pleasure to see Harry and Walker progress like Jags did and Naughts and Lowton having top level careers as well. Even if they leave its great knowing players of that quality came from us. Long the live the academy.

Yes its great we are developing these players BUT , can you imagine where we would be now if we had KEPT these players , Brooks will be the next one to go , were a selling club and will always struggle because of this !!

This makes me think that there must be quite a few admirers of JOC at this present time. If JOC improves on last season, this season, then I expect a bid or two for the lad next summer.

were a selling club

Every club in the world, barring a handful of elite teams are "selling clubs"

Liverpool are crying out for a solid centre-half. If they get Harry and a decent 'keeper in they could really push on.

Cant see them going for Harry - who will likely cost upwards of £70m - when they've just spent similar on Van Dijk.

I agree though that if they did, they would look a fantastic side.

Can’t be £70m. He’s not got any faster and that’s the reason I was told he wasn’t worth more than the £2m we got for him.

Not bad from the English Pique. Especially when you consider he's playing slightly out of position (he should be at the centre or right of the back three). Seem to remember getting told that he wouldn't make it at Championship level from the majority on here.

‘Boots of lead’..poor lad, wonder what will become of him?

Probably end up playing non league mate getting paid a hundred quid a week. Sad but that's what happens when you have lead boots. I'm just glad the 'scouts' on here spotted it so early so we didn't have to put up with him for long.

who aren't selling clubs?
think where we are in the football pyramid...
i would say over the last 10 years we are several places below everton who sell lukaku to man u, who in turn sell ronaldo to madrid, who also took bale from spurs.
it is a pyramid, that's football. Also how do you stand in the way of a lad who is bettering himself? Walker seems to have stepped up a gear moving from spurs (champs league) to man city (prem champions)
good luck to all of them.
it's just the wank fees we get that pisses me off!

Silly me  How could I forget?

Is anyone who called him leadboots still around?

I didn’t post on this board when Maguire played for us so I don’t know what was said about him on here. There weren’t many on BM who called him that, it was what the pigs called him. My recollection is that most posters thought he’d be top end of the championship, maybe lower end of PL.

I also think he probably is faster than he was in those days, his physique has certainly changed.

And the weird thing about football is that players become more valuable as they become proven at a higher level. That’s why Fleetwood didn’t pay £60m for Vardy.

I never thought he would step up either. Happy to admit i was wrong and iam happy for him. Iam behind this England team more than any of the other teams because of Maguire and Walker. Best thing they ever did was leaving Blades, we were going nowhere but those 2 obviously were !

I wrote Coutts off if it makes you feel any better

No, that doesn't help either because I would have sold him at the end of Adkins' season too. Just to show that I'm not always negative, I thought that James Wilson was a great loan signing and was really envious when Wednesday got Jordan Rhodes.
