Apologies I only saw pace. Think his speed is somewhat underestimated and we don’t play with wingers

I agree re. Leonard. I just think occasionally last season (and indeed the season before), our system was sussed out when the opposition matched it. And we didn't... don't have a suitable squad to ever go 4-4-2 or 4-5-1.

A fit Brooks this season is going to be something to look forward to, if he can get regular games his confidence will soar, not saying he isn't confident but nothing beats knowing you are playing the next game, really looking forward to it
 
It's more a case of Brooks growing into a role in the side this season, which I think he will, if we hold on to him. He'll be another year more experienced and stronger, he'll be a class act.





That is, unless prem teams are reading this. In which case "he's shit, useless and not worth it".

Imagine the excitement on here if we were linked/rumoured to be signing Brooksy from another club...?
Best prospect we have had in decades, already an international - keep him, allow CW/AK to nurture him in to an even better player.
Of course, this only becomes awkward if DB (or his agent) want to move. I for one hope not.
 
No mention of Duffy at all yet, I'm suprised that he's not been talked about after the last 2 seasons, seeing as "attacking options" are being mentioned, he deserves a big place in the legends hall, if only for bouncing day!!!

Don't agree . In fact , the system we don't have a suitable squad for is the one we play , 3-5-2.

As I've said before , in that set up both the back 3 and the wing backs need to be of exceptional quality and ours aren't - simple as that.

With the players we already have, the lineup which would cause the most problems for the most teams and concede fewest goals is :-

.........................Henderson......................
Basham Stearman Wright O' Connell
Duffy. Coutts. Fleck. Brooks
.............Sharp .............Clarke............

If that line up were to the core team for next season , I am totally confident that we would have better results than last year and comfortably make the play offs, if not the top 2.

That 11 (more the point, in that formation) would be dallying with relegation IMO.

Duffy , Coutts , Fleck , Brooks / Sharp and Clarke - what sort of midfield / strike force is that ?

Every defence in the country would be more than happy to face them every week , yes ?

I'm a fan of both Sharp and Clarke, and think they should be given every chance next season to claim the front two partnership, but... well... they're both getting on and there's little mobility there.

And yes, I love all 4 midfielders you mention... but, the central pairing is not exactly dynamic in terms of attacking. Meanwhile, the two wide players are skillful yes, but don't possess bags of pace that you need to be an out and out winger these days.

This is compounded by the fact that Bash and Jack are not... errm... rapid. They would neither offer much support going forward, and would struggle against opposition with any sort of turn of speed. Meanwhile, Wright and Stears are both great organisers and more than capable at this level, but again, they're static and there's no cover there from a third defender.

So, to answer your question. No, I don't think every defence (or team in general) would be delighted to face them next season, but then, I don't think they'd be even a smidge terrified either.

And just to clear up, I want all 11 players you mention in and around the first team next season. Just nowhere near that formation.
 
The basic premise of your post that I responded to is that we don't have a squad suited to ever going 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 implying that we do have one which is suited to 3-5-2 which, presumably, would still include many of the players whose shortcomings you believe you have identified.

Can you explain to me , therefore, how these shortcomings will suddenly magically disappear under the system we persevered with last year and was found wanting.

If , on the other hand , you are suggesting that those players should all be replaced , which your original post did not imply , please let me have a list of suitable and better replacements together with an estimate of transfer fees, wages, agents fees etc.

One thing is for sure, teams up and down the country will be quaking in their boots about the prospect of facing a team with Baldock and Stevens coming at them down the flanks rather than Duffy and Brooks and one which has only three proper defenders.

Right, to answer your points:
1) We do have a squad suited to 3-5-2. It's Wilder's favored formation and he put a squad together based on that.
2) Our midfield personnel is suited to 3-5-2. It doesn't rely on pace as much as 4-4-2 does. I don't think our midfield has any shortcomings in for former. But I would still like some pace on the odd occasion we have to resort to the latter.
3) We were doing exceptionally well until Coutts got injured. That knocked us off form practically and emotionally.
4) I personally rate Baldock highly. That said, we also have Freeman back as an option. I agree entirely we need a (preferably first choice) new LWB, but only a fool would write off Stevens already in his first proper season at that level.

Not only have you skilfully avoided answering any of the questions I asked , you go on to put words in my mouth by saying you " agree we need a new LWB ". I never said any such thing and, on the contrary , I think we'd be better off without them.

It comes as no surprise that you rate Baldock highly and , as to your comment " it's almost as if we nearly went down " , that's a bit rich coming from someone who said that my preferred team would be dallying with relegation, as great a piece of nonsense as I've heard in a long time.

One £15m player who’s arris is permanently glued to the subs bench, could realistically be considered as gross mismanagement of resources.

On top of which is the players desire to play.

Brooks wasn’t bit part last season he scored some very important goals, important assists

That’s a terrible suggestion. Duffy has only become the player he is today after moving into an advanced central role from the wing. Basham isn’t, hasn’t been and never will be a full back and the same with JOC. Again, Brooks isn’t a winger - see Duffy.

Thank Christ you’re not picking the team because if you were, we’d be fucked.

I reckon Brooks would have been played strictly on the wing under most of our previous managers. It’ll develop him better as a footballer to grow into a role having played across the line. His final position also depends on if his physique changes.

Don't need to be an ITK to know that if the price is right and the player fancies it he will go ,but it won't be to Turkey his handlers who include Wilder won't allow that .He's a young man with a big future but still needs handling carefully,not going to the bull ring which is Turkey.

Urgh £12million. I can only assume Wilder is been granted the vast majority of that sum, otherwise there is no chance he'd sanction this move.

Unless Brooks said he wanted to go, in which case Wilder would be just as gutted as us and probably will get none, unless he really needs it.
