Sooner than later United will have to ditch this approach. I reckon it's just an excuse for United to pay the players on the cheap. If we're going to get someone who's a step up from what we normally sign then we've got to be prepared to pay them. If CW's got a kitty of say £10m to play with then he's going to be able to sign 6 x Lundstram types for £1.5m at £6k pw or 2 x Madison types for £5m at £15-20k pw. It's the way it is unfortunately.

And whilst we're on the subject, if we wish to hang on to Brooks then he will need paying too. He's not going to stay getting paid a kid's wage so if the club are serious about keeping him then they'd better be prepared to give him a new contract at £20-30k pw. If we don't there's a queue of clubs who will.

madison signing for leicester for £24 million , says to me that 12 big ones is no where near enough

Yeah OK but I'm just illustrating a point. The more a player costs to buy the more you have to pay him, the salary cap is irrelevant.

Agree with everything you say. Problem is an ownership dispute is not helping in a change of direction and until thats resolved doubt we will be paying big bucks or wages for anyone.

I would be asking them to double their offer before we even begin to negotiate.

Who could we get to replace someone of Brooks' potential for £12m?

That buys you nowt these days.

If we sell for £12m we are fools. KM will keep £11.99m and we will be worse off. I hope Wilder sticks to his no shit or i'm off guns.

And why would anyone want to play for Bournemouth? They will be done on fair play soon and you could fit their fans into the bottom half of Bramall Lane.

3 or4 - even more, times the wage. Chance of PL football.

Let's be like the Pigs though and base it on fan numbers, rather than the actual fact they're in a higher division than us.

What if we sell him for £30m? What will McCabe take out of that?

Nonsense post.

Hi

Tempting for who ? 12m is shite for us ,getting larruped every week in front of 8 thousand cant be for young David either.

Are we in a position to reject £10m plus offers I highly doubt that we are. No doubt this offer will be £7m + £5m worth of add ons.

Brooks signed a new contract yet still employed a new agent, next thing we know stories are being leaked of clubs interested in him....coincidence I think not.

Agents are fucking parasites. If DB goes to a shite team with no prospect of winning anything (i.e. nearly every team in the PL) has the agent really served his client well? Sure, he'll get to look at his vastly-improved bank balance but is that all there is? He's only got to watch the World Cup to realise what can be achieved by not taking the money and running - players who've moved to genuinely big teams and are at the pinnacle of their careers.

Especially when the pigs get £8m for 'play when I want to', 'mardy fucker' Forestieri.

Anyway, we'll never get to know the fee. It'll be 'undisclosed'.

cos thats what the premier leagues cash rich teams splash out on potential talent, is madison worth 20 is grealish worth 40 never in month of sundys, but thats where the market is, your buying a potential, so why give away a talent for peanuts cos 12 million is peanuts to any prem side

So why is no one offering £20m for schoolboy looks?

Brooks our best player?

Not by a country mile in my view.

Maybe one day but certainly not today.

But Maddison / Grealish are the best players at there club which is why they go for much more money. If you buy one of those your buying an excellent player with world class potential.

With Brooks your buying a decent player with world class potential.

What would £12 million get you these days? Not much tbh.

Better off keeping a player whos stock will surely rise next season should he stay injury free.

We would be crazy to sell him.

Will he play for us? He didn’t play much last season. I know he had his injury but before that he was a sub.

I don't know about crazy but next season is a big one for him.

At his age he needs to kick on and start fulfilling his potential or he will start to get left behind.

I think that he has more chance of doing that with us than at a premier league club where he may well be a "bit part" player.

From his point of view it may be a tough call. Big money now because it may be his only chance, or stay put and hopefully progess by playing much more football.

Having been dropped once by Man City I'm hoping he may show caution and choose the latter route.

If he doesn't then he will go for whatever we can get for him as Wilder won't keep a player that doesn't want to be here. (Quite rightly in my book)

Right, that’s enough. Leave now.

I would like to see the club run by a consortium headed by Bruce Wayne, snootyfenooty and Tezza1889. They are clearly hard nosed men of business who would have no difficulty in attracting venture capital to the club and would boldly speculate to accumulate, whatever the cost.

No unproven young tyro would be sold, however lucrative the offer. Every Fucka would be signed, money no object.

Now then, first board meeting:

My, you're in a funny mood today. If you read your prescription, you'll note that you're supposed to take one Prozac per day, not one per hour.

Make it 12m, a 50% sell on clause, plus Callum Wilson ……. and we may listen ……

UTB & FTP
Thats the the first post I've read that's made me question whether we should keep him. I'm a huge Brooks fan, his potential is endless- he could be the next Giggs or Bale. On the other hand £12m, a huge sell on clause and Wilson would probably temp me far too much

1 word of warning though. Wages. While cashing in on a player who's currently just an impact sub makes sense if we can bring in 2 or 3 quality signings, wages would still be a massive hurdle.
At best the board would give us 10million of that 12 to reinvest. If you were to get my 2 top targets Wilson and Hogan they are both going to be on 20k a week minimum. So while losing Brooks might cover the transfer fees his 5 or 6 grand a week wages aren't going to make a dent in what a 5million quid striker would be on.
