Young striker at Sunderland. Has had a couple of youth loans but has done little so far at senior level.

The reason I suggest him though is that he's 6"3 and has reportedly been prolific for Sundelrand's U21s (including scoring against us yesterday) which leads me to believe there is a player in there. He seems to move fairly quickly and is a real unit.

More of one for the future rather than an immediate impact admittedly. Just wondered if anyone had watched much of him and had an opinion?

I saw him playing for Hartlepool on TV recently and he was absolutely shocking. Poor touch, terrible finishing and a gangly bambi like player with little strength. Not for me.

I'd prefer George Waring from Stoke who is 6.5ft and scored 6 in 19 for Barnsley lasy season on loan. Surprised he's not gone out on loan again. I keep hoping we get Uche Ipazeau from Watford but that's probably more because I just love the heroic impact he'd make, although he seems a step up on Sammon too, to be fair, although that's not saying much of late!

Fits the bill of our players being outside of the norm. CW and AK do find these players from nowhere. He’s a target man and I’m guessing cheaper than Gallagher.

Not seen him play so cannot comment.

speaking to a Lincoln city fan here in the office and he said he saw him play last season for Colchester against them, says he is big and strong and holds the ball up well, doesn't sound like he is likely to be ready to step into the first team yet though, more likely an impact player off the bench, although at 23 and would cost a fee (although not a huge one) is this really what we need? Would he be any better than Ched or Billy off the bench? Think we need to focus more on finding ourselves a new main striker rather than filling the squad with numbers

Might be a bit harsh given I’ve not seen him play but a big gulf between L2 and the top end of the championship.

McNulty got near 30 goals last season. But Having already seen him play for us how many would be thrilled with him signing for us now.

Ok - as a Cheap gamble maybe?

Are we really in a position to take gambles though?

If we want to push onto the next level like we do we need established players who improve the squad.

Every now and then you find a Brian Deane, but the hit rate isn't that high really is it, unless we're just really unlucky

That’s what I mean...

If we want to push on we need known quality. If he’s a low risk gamble like Nathan Thomas fair enough but I’d not be for us blowing a good chunk of our budget on someone unproven anywhere near this level.

But obviously CW knows more than me . I haven’t even seen him play to be far to him.

Are we really in a position (financially) not to take gambles though?

If we want a player to improve us, we'll struggle to afford the finished article - gambling on younger or out of favour players is our only real option.

Who can we realistically afford who’s proven to be better than Sharp and Clarke? No one imho so surely it makes sense to sign potential whilst we’ve still got Sharp and Clarke, to slowly take over, so when their legs go, we’ve got someone to step up as the first choice.

I think it depends what you see as being a gamble. There are players in the lower league who have scored goals and might be worth taking a 'gamble' on based on the fact they are a proven scorer.

Mandron has only reached 10 goals twice, once in the national league and once in league 2, if he was maybe 18-19 again might be worth a gamble but he is 23 and when he moved to then championship side Wigan he barely played and was sold after 6 months there.

I agree that it will be very difficult to replace these 2 based on how they have done over the last couple of years.

For me I think the only way to find better might be to go down the loan route where the fee/wages might be equal to what we might have to pay for Mandron

I don't particularly mean yougsters, but for example the likes of grabban who was at both Sunderland and Villa last year, whilst I admit is probably out of our reach, it shows there are good strikers out there you could get on loan.

Personally I think we should go after Nakhi Wells, think he would fit in really well with our style of play

If we need a 4th choice striker / striker who is willing to sit on the bench, if he’s got potential I’d go for it.

Never believe a Lincoln City fan - they are Imps. They live where it is very flat, some of them are genuine "flat-earthers", others just have a poor altitude. They are spud-munching, yellow-bellies and dyke-hoppers. Apart from that, they're alright really.

I don't think many thought that Brian Deane was ready when we signed him from Doncaster, including the Doncaster faithful themselves. I remember first time I saw Deano play for us - I thought he was every bit the unfinished article, big, gangly, awkward, raw. He just didn't look like he could step up. Fast forward a few games and it became apparent we'd unearthed ourselves a gem.

I've never heard of this kid Mikael Mandron - but I like the alliteration and it also makes for an interesting anagram:

Norman Lame Dik

Therefore, gerrimin!

This would be proof we aren't just signing '3 or 4' like many mistakenly think.

I know where you’re coming from but, unless you actually get promoted, loaning players is a waste of money. It’s better spent on well scouted players who have the potential to develop, unless there just isn’t anyone available that you can sign permanently. Which I assume is the case with Henderson

I think it’s hardest at this level tbh. It’s a right old gamble if you splash the cash on a permanent signing and they don’t work out. Many clubs at this level have gambled to get to the Prem and mortgaged their futures. I still think our permanent signings are likely to come from lower league or unknown ones from abroad who are keen to prove themselves in English football. I’m ok with that tbh if we can borrow quality from higher up.
