It surprises me with all this Villa talk that the Terry signing seems to avoid much criticism.

Only 1 year I know but a reported £75k a week for a 36/37 year old clearly past his best smacks of sheer abandon.

Leader, great in the dressing room, but nothing more than adequate on the pitch.

Fair enough on more modest money but how many players in the second tier have been given that money after relegation, let alone at that age.

We won't get Hogan easily for a knock down fee. Xia is very much like Tunaman at the Pigs. He see's selling players and losing out financially as a sign of weakness and wants to control everything. I have two son in laws who are avid Villa fans and they see Xia's stubborness as a major problem in them getting out of this mess. His investment has dried up due to changes in Chinese law.

There are American investors who are interested in taking over but Xia wants them to be partners not owners out right. Villa Board is meeting today. Leeds approach for Bruce is on the agenda. He may go so they can get compensation to cover short term debts. Bruce wants to stay but will only learn what his budget is today. Odds on he walks out.

Bruce handed budget less than 20m (guaranteed) and he walks.

Bruce is one of the reasons they failed. Falling out with 2 of their best players (worth 20m+) and spending another 20m on replacing them was a ridiculous decision.

Jack Grealish’s departure from Aston Villa will move a step closer tomorrow as the club’s top brass choose who stays and who goes from Villa Park this summer.

As concerns over Villa’s perilous financial state continue, Steve Bruce will receive details of his annual transfer and wage budget - and with it, the likelihood that his £30m-rated midfielder - will need to be sold to help balance the books.

Looks as though Blades will find out in the next day or so if Hogan will be attainable this summer.

Who, realistically, would you prefer Utd to sign?
The answer is I don't know, having watched Tovey and Eisa (on Youtube) 2 of the other suggested strikers, I wouldn't waste money on them either. I do keep saying the Prem has swept up any decent striking talent so we can only hope to loan somebody from a Premiership team otherwise we are wasting money. I'd rather we didn't bother spending anything rather than spend for the sake of it.

United's main transfers targets this summer are Egan from Brentford and Hogan from Villa, we will just have to wait and see.
Nice to have a couple of names to debate, but Scott Hogan signed for Villa over West Ham due to the wages he was offered. I really cant see us being able to offer him 50% of his current wage despite the improved budget.

People ask fans to be realistic so remember when we signed Deane and Agana and how they transformed us.

We signed them for peanuts from not so big clubs but they were knocking em in and showing potential and their clubs didn't want to sell. More of that please.

Better this type of young player with potential, appetite and a developing goal scoring record rather than over paid players not cutting it, had their chance and where their club wants to sell.

Sparky McNulty it is then, keep rubbing the lamp - you have two more wishes ;)

I have it on pretty good authority, that Wilder has spoken to Blackman and Palmer today???
I'm not ITK, just passing on info.

Mate give up? I’ve been you asking people to realistic. It never works. We could sign Ronaldo and people would claim he’s too old.
Just for you then, I've already said why we shouldn't sign Hogan, Tovey and Eisa but here's some more internet scouting:
Tom Eaves: 26 one good season, good aerially but not much else, not much to view online.
Jack Marriott: short, poacher like Sharp but not as good, 24 this year, strike rate 1 in 2 at league 1.
John Marquis: 26, 2 good seasons, decent in the air and nice finisher, cool, maybe. I assume the guys have run the rule over him being local...

I'm a bit behind. Is Palmer the other Chelsea lad? Midfielder?

Who’s the Belgian lad being talked about towards the beginning of the thread?

Egan wouldn’t be a bad signing, at a good age and has decent championship experience.

As for Hogan, if he’s adorable, great! Bit of pace up top... if his knee holds out. Personally I don’t see it, but then who knows.

Egan fits the “typical” Wilder brief. He’s captain at his current club. Played with O’Connoll there (and Hogan!) and Leonard at Southend. In the Ireland squad with Enda. Plenty of character references which Tufty likes.

Not being a cunt would do for me.

Links with midfielders make me nervous as it's by far the strongest area of the team so makes me wonder if anyone may be on their way. You'd have to assume Chelsea want loanees playing but with our.midfield there's no guarantee he's get a game unless someone is on their way

Come the end of the month all will be revealed; many player contracts run till the end of June, so deals have to wait.

You can sign a player in June whose contract is coming up at the end of June just like Edna Stevens last year as an example

I don’t see it that way tbh. I think Fleck is a great player. I think Coutts is too, but we don’t know if he’s going to be able to perform from day 1 of the new season after that injury, it took him a good 18 months previously to get back to form. I think Duffy is a real creative talent but he’s also very hit and miss at times. Lee Evans is “tidy” but a bit negative. Lundstram is promising but a bit raw and drifts out of the game. Brooks is a great talent but a bit lightweight at times and seems best used as an impact player.

Our midfield looked a class below that of Wolves, and Fulham last season. Both those sides were promoted of course. I think it could do with further quality adding to it. I agree it’s not the most critical position but another classy midfielder would be a great addition imo.

To be fair to Coutts his game wasn’t exactly known for running box to box etc. If he was I think we would be struggling, but the way he plays is probably the best possible role for someone to recover from a leg break.

Can’t wait to see the Scottish Pirlo back in action :D

Cerebus I'm sure Palmer would be a good addition but it would be crowded with Fleck, Coutts, Evans,Lundstram, Duffy , Brooks, Palmer at al

Ps Brooks needs to be more than an impact player if we could sell him for 10m+

Main thing is the targets mentioned so far all seem to fit Wilders quality not quantity mantra
