Reece and Hockey should surely take the places of Gage and Ward. You could still have different kits.

Ward? Mitch Fucking Ward? Ahead of Reece and Hockey? Is this a serious proposition?

It's good work there, feller.

So - have I got this correct?
You have:
Brown, Gage, Sabella, Peschisolido, Sharp, Currie, Ndlouvo, ???, Edwards, ???, Bradshaw, Ward

Are the other two Holdsworth (or is it Doc Pace) and Booker?
Booker's hairs a bit light if it is.

Can't believe Deane and Agana aren't in there, yet.

Jow Shaw and Whitehouse.

I also need to slightly amend the heights of a few, Browny and Gages face.

Deane and Agana are 6 foot plus... they’ll go on the next couple of rows. I might need to change a few of their places as I move forward... as Gage, Whitehouse and Bradshaw are all 5’10 so might need to make room for a few more shorties.

He was sat with his pals. Plus he still lives in Sheffield and has one of my pictures in his house. :)

Our 8 greatest ever players are

Ernest Needham
Billy Gillespie
Fred Tunstall
Jimmy Hagan
Joe Shaw
Tony Currie
Alan Woodward
Brian Deane

Brian Deane 6 foot 2, TC 5 foot 10 are the two tallest out of the 8
Okay I will ensure they’re all on. Thanks again. :)

I’m completely with ya. That’s why I asked... Bobby Davison will get in there and yet apart from ‘that night’ didn’t really do owt compared to a guy that played 500 times for us?.

Thing is (and I guess this is the decision I need to make) I either I go popularity or historical. Prime example is I’ve popped Joe Shaw on there... and although I might not have done him justice not many know who he is.

I know I should put Needham on there Just unfortunately don’t think most will recognise him. Appreciate the input tho!

Yeah but if you go on recent popularity then you won't get much further than Duffy, Clarke, Fleck and Brooks et al thanks to bouncing day. Reckon a bit of respect is due to the proper legends.

Only a suggestion mind, it's your show!

Yup.

Plus I’ve got a Tony Currie commission going in the club shop and while I’ve been chatting to them there has been the floating of the ‘possibility’ of a few things going in the match day programme... my Aim is to pitch/convince them that it should be the central poster in there.

I'll certainly take one. (Assuming it's reasonably priced: it is Yorkshire tha knows)

Best of luck getting into the club shop and program by the way mate.
They should consider trying to work with more people like yourself, Presty and whoever came up with those Laver hats - would be a nice change from the generic merchandise in the club shop.

View attachment 40277 Right then. I’ve atarted a 1889-2018 Team picture. See Above. (It’s not I repeat not going to be a Sheffield United eating lunch on a metal girder looking out over Sheffield - although I might do that at some point :))

Anyway. I want to add a sprinkling of historic legends. My issue is I have no clue how tall they were!

I’ve got a good idea for e.g Edwards, Hemsley, Woodward etc but the ones I’m struggling with that I’m going to add are:

Derek Pace
Graham Shaw
Jimmy Hagan
Len Badger
Alan Hodgkinson - 5’9 (I think?).
Tony Kenworthy

Do any of you happen to know ‘roughly’ how tall these guys were?

Also... I’m not intending on adding (Gil Reece, Cec Coldwell, Ernest Needham, Mick Jones or Trevor Hockey) would this be a mistake?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hockey would be a good addition because of his unusual appearance if nothing else. Looked more like a pirate than a footballer!

Anti-goalkeeper discrimination? Or are you counting Woodward...?

Mine was at the Fiesta. Can’t remember if it was Bernard Manning or the Three Degrees. I always get them confused...
Mine was in the Windsor Hotel on the Wybourn, along with TC, no, not that one..... The other unfortunate git.

I would say Kenworthy is about 5'10 ,same as me when I met him in The Crown last year.

Silent do you keep goalkeepers away from your greatest ever players for United? After reading about all our great players (from 1889 onwards) I always have a very fixed view on who our best ever players are, my top 5 would be:-

Needham
Hagan
Currie
Gillespie
Foulke
with J Shaw not far off in 6th spot.
For the rest of a top 10 I think Woodward, Hodgkinson, Badger and G Shaw are prime candidates.

Perhaps Hagan and Currie I include as 2nd and 3rd due to my dad's view on them, and Foulke as 5th choice as it would appear he was the Gascoigne or Beckham (or dare I say Currie ... yes) of his day ie the standout best player / personality. I always feel for a United top 10 or top 20 where do the 3 big goalscorers - Johnson-Dunne-Dodds - of the interim years fit in, or of later years Doc Pace. And what of the other players from the golden age, who won a league title, FA cup winners medals and England caps, 'Cocky' Bennett, Tommy Morren, Harry Thickett and Fred Priest, amongst a few others. Going back to the interim years, your man Fred Tunstall and George Green (our second most capped England player, who I know very little about), where do they come in 'SUFC best of' (Tunstall 3rd in your list). And what of the players in my lifetime (since the mid 70s), given how far our great club has fallen over the last 40 years, where do Edwards, Deane, Tracey, Kelly, Brown and Jagielka fit in with any best of lists???

Nick. You've nailed Dane Whitehouse's face. His hair needs some more work..Otherwise the perms I paid for, for (too) many years were wasted!. Looking forward to the end result. No pressure about who's in and who isn't..Just get it right.....UTMB

That is Brill, I know his time was short with us Matt and we have just been talking about him on here over the last 2 weeks but what about adding Mel Rees (RIP) sat in the center (6.18 feet).

Yeah second row for the keepers - which I will be going with the following 6.

Simon Tracey 6’0

Mel Rees 6’2

Fatty Foulke 6’4

Alan Kelly 6’2

Paddy Kenny 6’1

Alan Hodgkinson 5’9

I know Kenny might not be popular with some but he was in goal for a vast proportion of my Blades watching life.
