Heres a very interesting (and pointless) fact... The curse of red and white striped shirts with black shorts continues. 28 Play-Off finals appearances by 6 clubs - no wins. Brentford & Sheffield Utd - 8 each; Lincoln - 6, Sunderland - 3, Exeter -2, Southampton -1. Next time we have to wear the away kit to stand any chance.

We wore the away kit against Palace. Made no difference

Sunderland still got promoted in 1990 throught the playoffs.

Swindon (a small club) were denied promotion due to finanacial irregularities and Sunderland, the losing play off finalists, took their place.

In other unconnected news, the CheatinAmmers (large club) were given a severe ticking off and a Paddington cold stare for contract and document irregularities, lying about them being sorted and continuing to cheat.

Saw this last night on Twitter, extraordinary stat really - can't wait for us to play Brentford in the Play Off Final next year!

The football authorities did apologise to Trevor Brooking though...

Cheltenham play in these colours and have won the playoffs twice.

Stoke and Stevenage also wear red and white stripes and have won the playoffs.

Wrong my friend, they have white shorts aswell ! All teams in red and white with BLACK shorts have not won. Next......

I went to Exeter v Cov. Was in London and got 2 tickets for me and the lad for less than £40 so thought why not? We adopted Exeter due to fact our seats were in their 'sun bed' end, their underdog status and of course the red and white stripes.

My jinx continued. Exeter were awful and even in a the first half barely had an attack. It finished 3-1 but could have been more. The Exeter players did a superb impersonation of previous SUFC players/teams as they too played like they were inebriated or they had their boots on the wrong feet!

I even missed the Exeter goal as we were making the now traditional losers walk down Wembley way to beat the rush (we had tickets to see Solo in Stratford near where we stayed - 7/10; ok film but not like other star wars one's and I was a touch disappointed- it became just a battle film with less storyline and character development- Danny Glover's son was excellent as Lando Carlrissian though).

I digress....

Odd to go to a game as a neutral. My lad was given an 'I love Wembley!' sticker which is ironic considering our 5 out of 5 defeats there! Still love the atmosphere there despite bad memories. Wembley Way is always a great place to be pre game. Coventry fans outnumbered Exeter by around 4 to 1. They were quite arrogant pre game, almost disrespectful to Exeter fans singing 'We forgot you were even here!' I went in the fan park for Exeter fans and found it bizarre a few Cov fans came in here and were trying to rile Exeter fans. Why would you not just go and drink with your own fans? They sang the Coutts sing about Doyle. Yes, he never gives the ball away apparently. He actually had a steady game. Mcnulty was busy but he is what he is; a mid table league one striker at best and his lack of pace/athleticism and ability to go missing in games will show up more at a higher level as it did for us. Cov have a few decent young players. The lad Grimmer scored a great goal. Is it me or us it only Wembley where shots go in and it visibly hit the net but there is almost a delay between what happens and then the other teams fans realising and the cheer going up! Recall this with United and the same yesterday. It is a painfully weird time v sound v vision time continuum!

Exeter fans were very quiet. They seemed almost disinterested and no-one tried to get much singing going. I was frustrated with lack of effort and urgency and I do not even support them but they just sat there like zombies. Mind you it was unbelievably hot in that end behind the goal! I thought of previous Blades games when our fans have also toasted in the hot May sunshine.

So if I count yesterday it is 6 for 6 for me. Got chatting with a few Grecians pre game and told them I was a Blade but they were screwed with me watching.

Should've told me you were on my manor in Stratford, deadbat, I would have met you for a pint. :)

I have no idea why my memory banks remembered this thread today but...

This curse is now dead. We can enter future play-offs - liberated!

Unless Lincoln lose tomorrow and re-ignite the curse of course. Just saying like.

Am I being really thick here? Or just really pedantic? I can only remember us losing 4 play off finals...

Palace
Wolves
Burnley
Udders

We lost play off semis v Yeovil, Sunderland, Swindon, presumably there is an eighth one but I can't think what it is.
