In an attempt to come up with something original in relation to transfers, following the idea of quality over quantity what players would u pick for the following-

One goalkeeper
One centre half
One striker

This is working on the basis that these are the only transfers we will make and adhering to our ‘favourable mid table budget’

Blackman
Jake Cooper
Matt Smith

This would leave money to strengthen other areas such as bringing someone like Jack Robinson in to bring Stevens standards back up to the start of the season form.

Have you missed the point wiz?
No mate, I would sign those players mentioned anyway regardless of our funds but knowing we will probably have a bigger budget than just those players then I think what I put in the latter part of my post is relevant.

Jamal Blackman - £2m
Kyle Bartley - £2.5m
Tammy Abraham - Loan

But 'quality over quantity' isn't always entirely possible. If you need 6 signings and don't have a massive budget they aren't all going to be top quality are they? And it's not better to neglect certain positions in order to get better quality in other positions - especially as the difference in quality won't always be that big. These days the difference between good players and very good players in this division is millions of pounds.

We could sign 3 players instead of 6 but those 3 probably won't be much better than the players we'd sign in their positions as part of the 6. And there'd be certain positions that we'd be short in.

I don't think we'd be better off by strictly adhering to the quality over quantity approach. Chances out we'd miss out on our first 2 or 3 targets in each position anyway, and be scrambling about for signings right up until the deadline.

There are always players who are worth a punt available for a decent price, the ones who often pay off big time and increase in value massively. If you're strictly following the quality over quantity approach you'd never go for these players.

Agree mate, it’s all theoretical, think we need anither striker and a left back added to what I said, just wondered what everyone’s ideal top three signings would be and they’re the most ‘interesting’ positions

Forgot to say mine
- Blackman
- Batth
- Vydra (if possible)

I think Vydra is unlikely now Rowett has left Derby. Rowett changed formation at the end of the season and Vydra lost out, so it might have been possible if rowett had stayed, but possibly for far more than we could afford.

Probably right he would be my ideal signing tho, think as you say the opportunity went with Rowett (if it was ever there at all)

Vydra will be about 15 million. You may as well pop Gareth Bale on the list.

The idea is you pick 3 players ?
People do know this but the point is that no one knows what the budget is or how much each player will be available for so it’s all guesswork and pretty irrelevant at this point in time to be brutally honest.

Given that the last 2 'Chelsea youth products' went for 8.8 and 20 million I doubt we'll be buying Blackman for 2.5 million.
Batth is an option good age, probably surplus, done good business with Wolves already.
Nahki Wells was 5 million and is not what we need up front (IMO) so I wouldn't expect we'd pick him up for less then that.
Ollie Watkins- just watched the Youtube vid of his goals, not for me thanks, maybe a punt at a million. in fact add that to the Tovey and Eisa suggestions, having seen their goals highlights the premier league have really swept up all the goal scoring British talent and it will have to be somebody from abroad to make a significant difference to our strike force.

I'm getting pissed off re-the Blackman debate. We're dismissing Moore as crap when he most certainly isn't for the sole purpose of bigging up Blackman. So for me I'd spend zero on the GK, maybe loan another 3rd string GK from one of the top 6, and split the rest between Bartley and Marriot.

Jamal Blackman
Trevoh Chalobah (Loan)
Jordan Hugill / Leo Bonatini / Abel Hernandez

CF - Jack Marriot at Posh

Ollie Watkins £8m

Sorted.

- Vydra (if possible)

CB- Liam Moore

Johnathan Kodjia (push boat out)/Jack Marriott

Jordan Hugill / Leo Bonatini / Abel Hernandez
