But 'quality over quantity' isn't always entirely possible. If you need 6 signings and don't have a massive budget they aren't all going to be top quality are they? And it's not better to neglect certain positions in order to get better quality in other positions - especially as the difference in quality won't always be that big. These days the difference between good players and very good players in this division is millions of pounds.
We could sign 3 players instead of 6 but those 3 probably won't be much better than the players we'd sign in their positions as part of the 6. And there'd be certain positions that we'd be short in.
I don't think we'd be better off by strictly adhering to the quality over quantity approach. Chances out we'd miss out on our first 2 or 3 targets in each position anyway, and be scrambling about for signings right up until the deadline.
There are always players who are worth a punt available for a decent price, the ones who often pay off big time and increase in value massively. If you're strictly following the quality over quantity approach you'd never go for these players.
