Homegrown player rule

Got to say looking at the Fulham squad, they were sailing close to the wind last season...
On closer inspection a lot of their 'overseas' players were signed by premiership 'giants' before they were 20, so that's how you get around that rule!

How does that work then, B_S, because when you look at the Chelsea side for example consisting of Courtois, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Alonso, Moses, Zappacosta, Kante, Bakayoko, Hazard, Pedro and Morata, I’d hardly call them homegrown mate?
I believe Moses and courtois are both "homegrown".

Chelsea do push their luck which is why they scramble around for players like Barkley and drinkwater at the end of transfer windows.

At the end of the January Transfer Window Premier League Clubs must name a maximum of 17 players who are NOT qualified under the Home Grown Player Rule. In fact, Chelsea named only 16. All other players who feature in their match day squad must fall within the Home Grown Player criteria.
Look, I'm not defending the Premier League Rule, nor am I defending Chelsea, I was correcting the view that the Premier League Clubs can pick who they like & don't have qualification rules.
A club like Chelsea must be within those rules, otherwise some investigative journalist will expose them.

I’m not saying you’re wrong but how are those two players homegrown?

Obviously, Barkley and Drinkwater are but they very rarely get a game through one reason or another. It just seems to me that the rules are nowhere near as harsh as they should be in the Premier league due to the money involved and too much at stake.

If they are within the rules then the rules aren’t harsh enough.

Courtois was named, but not Home Grown
Moses, Barkley, Drinkwater, Cahill were named as Home Grown.
Chelsea named a 21 man squad, they're actually allowed to name 25. In another post I've said they named 16 NOT Home Grown. Plus the four Home Grown I've listed. Makes 20. So, there is a missing Home Grown, it's not Courtois. I know who it is. Buy Dem Blades Annual to find out ....

As I said, I am not defending the rules, nor Chelsea. Although I will say I don't give a Flying Fuck as it's not the League my team play in. I similarly don't give a Flying Fuck about the rules for the Albanian 2nd Division, which we are also not in. That's my situation this evening....

surely just name a player who fits the bill, knowing he will never get on the pitch?
another example of the rule makers fucking with things to be seen to be doing something, without actually doing something?
except holding back the development of a young lads career when he could be getting game time at a lower level?
blackman in goal, Moore as back up with Long as a token gesture, rather than him playing and getting rave reviews. stick it up ya arse like FFP - see Vilka & Wolves.

Well seen as though it’s the same country and a league we will be challenging to be in next season I thought it was worthy of discussion as to why it’s one rule for one league and one for another in the same country, no skin of my nose if you don’t give a flying fuck, don’t discuss it next time. How easy is that?

I reckon Albania will have a full squad of homegrown players for all their teams in their league whilst we’re on the subject. :)

My guess would be Fabregas?

Given that Chelsea had 28 players out on loan last season, I'll wager they are sweeping up a huge amount of young talent prior to them being 20 thus making them 'home grown' and they aren't the only 'giant' up to this, the rules fall down as to what constitutes 'home grown' rather than the clubs failing to stay within the rules.

Good point and that’s what I was getting at when I was saying the rules aren’t harsh enough but never mind, that’s not our league nor will we ever play in it so it will never matter. :)

I've actually been to three games in Albania..

FiH I've just had a look at a couple of Chelsea players Baba Rahman and Kurt Zouma both purchased to comply with the home grown rules but both now out on loan 3 years later, 21.7 and 12.5 million respectively! A different world.

Fuck talking about the players, what ale did you have? :)
The first time I went it was still very much a closed country. (March 1989) We got a coach from what was then Yugoslavia to the border. Walked through the immigration process & got on a different coach on the other side of the border. They had Vodka & they had Orange Juice (as it's got the right climate for growing oranges). So, Vodka & Orange became the drink of choice. I got bored witless with it, so started asking for Whisky & Coke, Gin & Tonic, that sort of thing....
The waiters/barstaff didn't raise an eyebrow - "Gin & Tonic, of course, no problem..." and then serve you a Vodka & Orange. "Whisky & Coke, naturally Sir, with ice..." and then serve you a Vodka & Orange. Superb .....
Things got a bit tasty in the main square, bizarrely between two different groups of England fans (I was at Albania v England). At the communal meal at the hotel, the actual Chief Of Police in Tirana read us the actual Riot Act Of Albania - in Albanian, translated for us by the tour guide. When he finished, we cheered him to the rafters. I'm not saying those were better times, I'm saying they were different times.

I agree they should be harsher. Rather than X amount of players in the squad, it should be X amount of homegrown players in the starting eleven.

Moses joined Crystal Palace at 11 years old and was there for 9 years. According to Wiki he came to Britain as an asylum seeker. He played for England at youth level but decided to play for Nigeria.

Courtois is a little more questionable. He came through Genk's academy and moved to Chelsea at 18. They immediately loaned him to Athletico for 3 years.

If it was down to me Moses would be homegrown but Courtous wouldn't... I suspect the FA/Premier League count them both as homegrown.

Courtois was NOT included in Chelsea's Home Grown list

Let’s just re-sign Jags... or Walker.

In fact yes let’s re-sign Jags and Walker. Problem solved. No need to thank me.

It's not the fees or wages it's whether they're still good enough that would be the sticking point.
