Question for Billy

:D
Phrase it another way 'Did you think that our forward pairing today offered the remotest threat to their goal? And when I say remotest I mean the slightest fucking remotest threat to their goal?' Or how about 'Have either of today's forward pairing offered an acceptable level of threat either as a pairing or individually in the calender year 2018? Or how about 'Would you be happy that today's forward pairing is our 1st choice pairing next season?'. Our survival as a championship side depends on it. Please don't quote work rate, if we need a ball chaser we can buy a spaniel. :)

I've been saying since last season - Sharp and Clarke can't play together.

Here's a question: have Sharp & Brooks ever had a run? Clarke & Brooks have had a number of goes (and IMHO is currently our best pairing) but I've can't recall Sharp & Brooks having a go.

One of the conundrums Wilder has failed to solve this season is his first choice front pairing...

Sharp and Clark have both proven since Christmas that they have neither the legs, commitment and more importantly skill to provide an effective strike force to enable us to be a force in the championship next season.
Neither of them create space, run the channels, get beyond their marker, hold the ball up, bring others into play and more importantly score goals.
Prior to Christmas ok, since Christmas definitely not.
The problem wilder has is that they, with the exception of Brooks who has been ill, are the best if what he has at his disposal.
It would not surprise me if all of our six strikers are not at the club at the start of the season. What they are replaced with depends on Wilder also being here next season

Cut him and he bleeds red and white, show him a blue and white wall and he'll run straight through it. Never has a player wanted to play for the club as much as Billy. Legend for me.
So what ? 25,000 fans are exactly the same make-up as Billy , but they can't play well . So they don't get picked.
The only reason Billy played today was a nod to his great service in recent seasons.
Saving us from relegation under Adkins appalling reign.
Firing us to promotion with over 30 goals.
But age catches up with you , especially as a striker.

Your first sentence makes sense, the rest is just crap.

Thought Billy did well today, and put a good season in, contributed goals.
Cant understand the knockers. Think its not enough goals from midfield that has cost us a play off place
Midfield and defence. Thought Freeman looked good in an attacking sense today. We've missed his goals.

He was quite clearly one of the few players that actually put in a shift today, busting a gut to turn hoofy hopeful punts upfield into actual link-up play that constituted a form of football. The midfield in particular today were as poor as I’ve seen them the past few months. Sharp, and Clarke for that matter, were not the issue today by any stretch.

I'm sorry, but for this club to have any chance of moving forward, there has to be some sacred cows slaughtered. Sharp has to be one of the 1st. If anybody honestly watched his performance today objectively and thinks he should still be at the club next season, then I honestly despair.
Wow. Just wow.

Seriously, anyone who did not see it like this, does not understand football. There can be no other conclusion.

Put me in that camp then.

What I saw yesterday was a forward, although gamely trying and putting himself about, appeared to be playing at a level that was unfortunately beyond him and therefore lacked the ability to influence the game. He challenged for balls, as he always does, but ended up barging players/the keeper & giving away cheap fouls, as he has neither the strength nor pace to beat them. He no longer has enough pace in his legs to get beyond people in the box over the short yards. He was consistency out muscled; both on the ground & in the air and due to the fact that he was always at 110% of his capabilities, he was straining to control the ball. He also wasted energy by involving himself in wide areas where his abilities are wasted.

The frequency of his appearances in the last 20 games would suggest that CW has a similar opinion. He's scored a brace in two league games in that period, one of which was a penalty. His only other goal this year was against Preston in the FA Cup and that was a penalty as well.

I don't take any pride in say this, just calling it as I see it.

You obviously saw a different performance, and I welcome your take on it. I'd also welcome your view on what you'd like his role to be next year?

I'll also add that i've not got a vendetta against him, just an opinion, as I do about every other United player and their relative merits. :)

I have previously gone down this road and have no desire to repeat everything.

A brief summary of the whole Clarke / Sharp debate would go as follows :-

Sharp is technically, visibly and statistically superior to his peer. More than sufficient evidence of this for yesterday’s 90 minute individual performances.

Clarke wins more headers. This is highly valued in S2.

The misuse of Sharp in the 2nd half of the season, combined with the overuse (every minute of every single game !! Really ?????) of Clarke has me concerned, baffled and apprehensive of what next season has in store.

Must be a blind spot for Wilder??

So it’s caught up with Clarke in the last few months. Why is this all about Billy?

As far as I’m aware the main job of a forward is to put it in the onion bag. If you aren’t even having any attempts on goal there’s not much chance you are going to score is there.

At least Clarke gets into goal scoring positions.

As usual, any criticism of Sharp - I thought he worked his socks, off, battled, but didn't like others didn't achieve much - turns into a "But he's better than Clarke " wailing contest.

Some need to grow up.
Didn’t achieve much ?

What game did you watch ??

His hold up, link up, and possession retention was on a completely different level to his hapless peer.

There is NO other conclusion. What I state is FACT.

Maybe pooor old Leon was tired from playing every minute of every game he has been fit / eligible !!!!

I think they both need upgrading but I wouldn't get rid of either
But as we know if Billy doesn't start every week he's off and his love affair with Sheffield United gets put on hold for a bit

Unfortunately you see what you want. Yet again you can't just judge his own performance. "Billy wasn't that good today, yeah but but he was better than Clarke who's scored more goals than him Sob sob"

He didn't score. Nor did Clarke. So they didn't achieve a great deal that way. Work that into your stats.

In play goals per minutes played points out that your claimed proven statistics whatever you code isn't "fact".

How he, or anyone else for that matter plays, is about opinion. Yours is skewed, even if you do believe your a better judge than Wilder. ( I believe the jury is out on that one though).

Unfortunately, I see it as it is. And thus call it as it is.

Marvellous eyeballs :);)

Billy always gets wrote off and always comes back and answers the doubters with goals. I fully expect him to do it again next season. Yes there will always be games when he looks average, crap even but he will score. His goal return this season is very good considering he hasn't played much after Christmas. Wilder is going to have to pull something special out the bag to replace either striker as i cant see the board getting their arse in gear anytime soon to back him in getting a proven prolific striker.

Sorry but I respectfully disagree, not enough clean sheets has been the issue!
