Safe standing. Here we go again.

If your all for kids getting crushed to death, however remote the possibility, vote yay !

Times have moved on.

Siddarn :)

Is this a serious post? Do you have any idea on what ‘safe standing’ (the clue is in the name) actually is?

If you don’t, which is blatantly obvious, then keep away from the thread.

There is a 0.00000001 % chance the barrier could fail

If someone takes a ratchet kit into the ground and spends 30 minutes on their hands and knees unscrewing the bolts on a few rails
And manage not to get noticed by fans or stewards.

Then we score a vitally important goal

And there happens to be a section of unruly boisterous fans in that particular section that like to surge

Then I agree the barrier could fail.

But I’ve got more chance of winning the Euro lottery than seeing a regularly inspected barrier screwed into concrete fail.

It’s like saying all football matches should be abandoned if it starts thundering and lightening because there’s a health/ danger risk to players and fans being struck down and killed by lightening.
The difference to my view, and that clearly evident in others, is the REAL world we live in.

The dangers ARE there. Agreed they are remote. That was never in debate. For what it’s worth, and as you well know, away fans in particular stand for the entire 90 mins. So what’s the difference ?

I’ll tell you shall I.

Tomorrow’s headline reads (god forbid) “Safe standing barrier fails crushing dozens, killing 3”.

The day after the headline reads “who is to blame”.

And the day after that is “who pays”.

Authorities want seating because they can identify you. That's all. This doesn't change with safe standing as everyone is allocated a place.

I haven’t sat in my season ticket seat once in the last 5 years. Maybe more.

Safe standing.

Safe fucking standing !!!!

Considering a wide section of our fans are beer fuelled, grout snorting, pyrotechnic pillocks, I’ll take that with the moronic pinch of salt it so richly deserves.

We’ve had unsafe standing on the Kop for years. If there’s the remotest of remote ticking time bombs you suggest it’s from the current situation being left as it is, rather than seeking to manage the situation safely to maximise safety for all.

How can you fall over a 4’ high rail? How can somebody from behind fall onto you?

I’ve been in stadia across the country absolutely bladdered, stood up, fell down, fell forward, fallen back. Some of the seats in front cause a danger, especially when they are shin height. 80% of my body is at risk of toppling forward. Safe standing would mean only 20% (give or take) would be at risk.

That’s the basic science part.

The rest of it is common sense.

Then that is 20% too many.

In fact it’s 1 in a million too many.

Does this guy know what rail seating is? If a barrier fails (a million to one chance) the maximum person who could be “crushed” is the person in front? Unless you’ve got Giant Haystacks behind you I think the worst you would get is a swift apology.

Nevertheless I’m willing to run this gauntlet of danger, albeit i’m probably a bit old for it every week. Incidently about in half an hour I’m going to cross a busy road to nip into the shop. Later I will have a couple of beers with scant disregard for my waistline. I might even pick my nose whilst Miss Rodley isn’t looking. Such is my devil may care attitude to risks I guess.

In that case, we should have all future games behind closed doors. Removes any possibility of risk to anyone. Let’s definitely not introduce a workable improvement to the current reality of what we have.
Why is it an “improvement” ?

I don't think he knows his arse from his fucking elbow! Absolute moron!

Better ban football full stop, could easily slip over on a slightly icy pavement on the way to the game, burn our mouths on a pre match pie, expose our ears to potential offensive language, and then what about the players? You could be challenging for a ball and end up breaking your leg, or worse, discover a yet unknown heart condition during the game - won't someone think of the children?

And don't get me started on the kidney punches

How many fans have EVER died, directly attributable to seating ?

Same question for standing ??!

Argument over !

UTB

How many attributed to the rail seating as proposed in the petition?

None.

This isn’t about ripping seats out like yesteryear you idiot. It’s a completely different thing.

So your argument draws a blank again.

The respective answers you were looking for are none and far too many.

There is NO petition to promote safe seating.

There is a reason for this.

UTB

Yes, it’s because it already exists within the current legislation. You’re very welcome to set up a petition advocating for safe seating as well (you can never be too sure after all), but be aware that setting up such a petition isn’t risk free – you might spill your mug of tepid coffee on your computer and electrocute yourself in the process.
