Derby winning Cardiff

Ah well.
At least it fucks Neil's automatic dream up.

Derby doing same as Pigs last year- absolute crap for months, never seem to win but somehow hang onto a play off spot like a determined turd.

2015-16 was worse when they finished 6th.

The two teams chasing them (think it was Cardiff and Ipswich) didn't seem to win a single match from about March onwards.

Derby Cardiff Villa Boro would be the lowest quality play-offs ever

You can't expect that big nosed twat to do us any favours. Used to like him, no more.

It was always going to be a step too far pal, our inability to hold onto that lead against a poor Cardiff side, and then the same against Millwall, getting turned over by Barnsley and Birmingham. Leaking too many goals.

Even though we've been a bit off the boil by comparison since late last year, it's recent weeks that have killed us for me.

We could and should have had at least 6 more points from the last 3 or 4 weeks.

It's felt inevitable that we'd miss out since we failed to win that game at Ipswich that was absolutely on a plate for us.

Throw in the likes of Brentford and Barnsley away and it's obvious where we've thrown it away. One needless throwaway after another. Can't be doing that if you're chasing 6th spot at this stage of the season.

Oh give over, it was slipping away when Millwall equalised and it was over when we lost at Birmingham.

So can we give some of the kids a run on Saturday now?

Colin....... “They were celebrating like they’d won the World Cup or something......

The U23s are in the semi final of the Premier League cup at Swansea on Monday night.

I can't see Wilder wanting to play any of them in some non descript end of season first team fixture or for that matter, any of the U23's wanting to miss out on Monday

Play Offs have been shaky since November and impossible after JTW.

I hope to goodness the folk who think otherwise don't invest in equities because they couldn't spot a trend to save their lives.

On our form , if Preston believe they still have a chance of Play Offs , they ought to murder us on Saturday , but maybe their players are tired like Chris says ours are ?

Brentford - leading 1-0. DRAW
Cardiff - leading 1-0. DRAW
Barnsley - leading 2-1. LOSS
Boro - leading 1-0. WIN
Millwall - leading 1-0. DRAW
Birmingham - leading 1-0. LOSS

12 points lost from leading position in the past 6 games.

That’s why we’ll fail. Holding on in half those games would have got us in the top 6.

Annoying thing is we’ve outplayed Derby twice this season.

...which is the minimum requirement for a team serious about promotion. For me, the annoying thing is ending losing streaks for dross like Barnsley (who can't buy a win - apart from against us) and Bolton. Our inability to beat relegation-fodder like Brum and 10-man Wednesday is what's cost us.

Our recent run of defeats at Hull Barnsley and Birmingham show that we were not quite strong enough this season. We have never been under threat of being in danger but equally are 2 or 3 players of top end championship quality short of setting our own agenda . We will be 3 to 5 points short come the final whistle which is not bad but would easily been reached with out the loss of Coutts and Freeman for the second half of the season. Any team that sustains a challenge needs it's best players available for the entire season ,especially with a squad new to this level. But we have shown our ability to compete and mix it at the right end of the table

It points to more a mental problem than ability. Footballers seem to get mind sets for periods .a run of games be it a winning run or a run of easing off and getting hauled back . But it can be sorted and CW will bring in a few more experienced game manager players for next season

2016 - 11th League 1
2017 - pissed it
2018 - 11th in Chumpionship (at worst)

OK, we have disappointed on occasions since Xmas and thrown points away but this is an inexperienced squad at this level and we have improved since last season as plenty of our results and performances have shown.

We're not far short in this Division now and if we can avoid any upheavals this Summer, Tufty knows exactly what is required so let's get ready for next season :)
