Corners

Can we not retitle this thread “fucking corners”? That’s usually my reaction when we get one. “Oh great. A fucking corner”.

I thought of an idea during that half, we pretend to play a short one which has two oppo defenders running out from the near post, then fleck chips it into the big space left for someone to exploit

O'Connell headed the last one we got over the bar, for about the 15th time this season.

We miss Coutts delivery of corners. He’s absolutely superb at swinging in the ball at pace.

Teams like Millwall and Bolton base there all approach to winning set pieces. Therefore they spend more time working on them.

There’s no excuse for the state of our set plays. We rarely create a chance from them and more often than not either hit the first man or send them sailing over the top. Generally thy are floated into the box giving the keeper every chance to grab it too.

We need to create more from them the same way we need to create more from crosses in general.

Scored from a decent move from a corner on Tuesday. Scored from the second phase following a corner today.

I think statistically not many goals are scored from corners, or at least the percentage of corners that lead to goals is quite low. Yes we should try to improve our deliveries, but don’t stress about them too much.

Watching Fulham v Brentford on Sky. Just seen that Brentford have a specialist set play coach. That said, their last set play was dog shit.

Lee Evans should just shoot from each corner! Statistically we're as likely to score from that then what we're currently doing...

We don't seem to have a plan for attacking corners. And 99% of our free kicks go short. Not sure it's an area that much resource goes into

What irritates me is that every other team, bar none in this league seems to be able to whip in a corner at pace, yet we are either incapable or unwilling to, relying on lofted floaty bollox instead.

It's probably planned far more than most people on here would think, it's just in any given game there's such a small sample size and such variance that in some games it looks like we don't have a clue

Preston made a good fist of it too, Gallagher dropping like a sack of spuds if you breath on him.

It’s the free kicks in the middle of the pitch that annoy me most.
Player A passes the ball to player B who is 5 yards away, not usually closer to the opposition goal. Player B passes back to A, who has by then been closed down by the opposition so he passes back to B who has also by then been closed down, so he hurriedly passes back towards our goal to player C. So we end up further from their goal.

What’s the point of that?

Like Lee Evans did several times today?

Nah, just a bunch of lofted efforts that kept floating in towards the back post, and I stress the word 'floating', with absolutely no one to meet them? Very little pace or whip. We didn't take one good corner today and rarely do.

Simply not accurate.

Just my opinion mate. Didn't see a decent corner today, and most of our crossing was quite gash. It's just something that our fantastic team seems to struggle with.

If you see it differently then fair enough.

100% agree.

Yesterday we managed to take a free kick on the halfway line and turn it into a corner for the opposition (from which Blackman had to make a good save) after several pointless and poor passes backwards and sideways.

We are so ponderous at times. This running down the wing and then stopping is also not helping.

In a nutshell, imho we are not spending enough time going forwards.
