So... all I need to do simply have him sat on a ball? Maybe having a brew (I know that’s not factually correct :) but it gives the flavour :)) that’d capture it enough?

You have to get Alan Ball in the picture as well, looked like he was sucking a lemon.

I remember Charlie George being furious and storming over to try and get the ball. TC sidestepped him and put it back to McCallister.

Then there was the noise from the crowd. Not sure how you can create a 'noise' in a painting but it was so integral to the moment.

Went to his debut v Spurs, stood on John Street...just remember what an impression he made, talking to my Dad on the way out,it wasn't like we'd seen an ordinary debut.
That Currie shuffle trick he used to do to get a yard on an opponent, spraying the ball around, running the show..could beat a man either side, blow a kiss to the crowd and then ping it to Woody inch perfect complete with back spin.
I never agreed with the lazy criticism...he did also track back and get tackles in..we were a team, and he was very much part of it,all mates together who could give anyone a game..that's probably why he stayed as long as he did.

What most people forget was how he'd stand up to anyone giving his mate Woody some stick.

TC was also quite hard, but never recognised for it.

Best player I've ever seen in a Blades shirt ... though the way young Brooks is going he may well be the next best.
That tremor of excitement you hear in the crowd when Brooksy gets on the ball .... used to hear it every time TC played.
You just knew you were watching something special.

You know what, I don't think Brooksy will be that good.

He may come close, but TC is a very hard act to beat.

Remember, TC was only 17 on his debut and he played like a mature, experienced footballer. And he was generally very consistent.

I didn't know of this thread before as I only recently joined here, but it has been fabulous reading everyone's memories of what was the best English footballer I have ever seen. There are too many moments to pick out just one or two, I could go on all night about the things this man could do with a football so I won't, but I remember Tony being a guest of Bobby Charlton when he had a weekly show on Sky some years back, & a clip of a goal scored by Tony when he was a Dirty Leeds player, at Highbury against Arsenal, who had Pat Jennings in goal. TC got the ball out on the right touchline, just a few yards up from the corner flag, he looked up, saw no-one in the 'box & hit a superb shot with the outside of his right foot. It looked like a hard cross at first, but as it arrowed across the front post it curled into the opposite top corner, leaving Jennings flapping at fresh air. Bobby turned to Tony & said "well, I have never seen that goal before, I can tell you meant to do it as there was no Leeds player in the 'box, & I can also tell you it is one of the best goals I have ever seen in my life!"
I had the pleasure of meeting TC when he had his testimonial year, maybe '86/7/8 time, & had his picture taken with the team I played for, with him in our kit, & one of just the two of us, they are my most treasured possessions. Incidentally, you can clearly see the state of his knees on those pictures, they were not pretty & I had been aware of the rumour that they troubled him at United & that many times he had physio rather than trained, something he confirmed when I asked if it were true. The mind boggles at the thought he could have been even better!

Leeds united were no longer the force of old back then, he should never have gone there.
Can't remember if Any other club was interested in him at the time, but wrong choice for me.

The question is. Did he go or was he pushed. United have a baderecord of cashing In at every opportunity

As far as I am aware. Just two great players had the balls tosay no to an enforced move
The Incomparable Jimmy Hagan. And Dane Whitehouse

As Bert remembers it TC beckoned to Ball to come and try to get it.
My dad said at one moment Bally fell over flat on his face, the crowd laughed at him, Bally responded by mooning at the small section of the crowd. Not seen it mentioned in any of the paper reports . Do you remember it?

No, Bert's memory has no recollection of that.

Why are you still falling at the feet of a player we signed in the 60s?
Very very good player in the 70s but only 17 England caps.
Good players in them days could get pissed the night before and still be the best player on the pitch.

About time people moved on.

BOO !

No, because he doesn't make your pulse race and the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

TC did.

Walker hardly played for us. We've had many "great" players on our books in my time but not many who were "great" whilst they were with us. We got TC in his prime for 8 years. Nuff said.

The reason he only got 17 caps is the same reason that Rodney Marsh only got 9 caps, Matt le Tissier only got 8 caps, Stanley Bowles only got 5 caps and Alan Hudson only got 2 caps.

They were flair players.

Oh and don't forget TC still works for the Blades so we won't move on until he does, thank you ;)
