Michael McIndoe's proposed move to Sheffield United has fallen through.
The winger has returned to Ashton Gate and could play some part in tomorrow night's showpiece friendly against Ajax.
Manager Gary Johnson explained to bcfc.co.uk: "Sheffield United are pleading poverty a little bit and I think they need to bring some finances in.
"Michael feels he's waited long enough. We agreed a fee with them a long time ago; they asked us to wait and Macca to wait until they came back from Malta.
"Macca felt he needed to have an answer, yes or no, and it's a no.
"Michael's back with us, he's a part of our squad and he'll compete for a place like everyone else."

"It was a bit out of order, in my opinion, keeping us and him waiting. They'd agreed a fee, and terms with the player.
"Macca called me and said 'whatever happens now I don't really want to go there'.
He added: "It's important we make clear it was the two clubs who agreed the deal, the first Macca knew anything about it was when he was sent to Sheffield for talks.
"It wasn't him that wanted to leave the club.
"He's back with us, he's a part of our squad and he'll compete for a place like everyone else."
