Incoming? Erhun Oztumer

I'd love Otzhumer, but can't see this happening because Wilder has said that the budget doesn't stretch to permanent signings that will improve us, other than Leonard. Maybe if Leonard doesn't happen then we'll go for Otzhumer and sign a centre mid on loan but I still think Leonard will come now Southend are in 17th.

Said in an interview that we were looking to bring in four - one permanent and three loanees. It was the interview that convinced everyone that we were skint.

So Wilder actually said that the budget won’t allow us to sign more than one player permanently and that player will be Leonard?

I must have missed that and I don’t recall it being mentioned on here before

Wilder says he will just go with whatever he his given,as he always as done in the past.

How does being in the Championship make £200k 'small change'?
How much extra income does it bring in?

Please change the record - Oztumer would be behind Duffy, Holmes, Brooks and probably Carruthers in the pecking order

Surely you mean you'd have preferred to sign him instead of Holmes otherwise you're comparing apples with oranges.

If's, and's, and only's......it's a done deal, and as been said, Len is a very different player to Oztumer. Like yourself, I fear we may have missed the boat where the Walsall player is concerned, but it's now passed us by so no point complaining over something that can't be undone. A good player no doubt, but so is Holmes, but as yet Ricky has not had a run of games in which to establish himself. When that happens we can only hope he'll impress, but by that time Coutts will be on the cusp of returning, and then.....well, the old chestnut of competition being a healthy thing will kick in.

Finding a position for Len is the key to seeing his worth to the team, there's no doubt he's capable enough, but perhaps it's a case of whether he's good enough?

A final comment, given where we are on our return to the Championship I feel we've acquitted ourselves not too badly. Of course that's an opinion that only stands up if that's all you're happy with, which I'm not. I know there's still a mathematical chance of getting in the play-offs, and as positive as I try to be, we may just lack that bit of quality to push through. So the summer, and the budget that Wilder is handed, will be crucial to what next season brings. But I think that we now need to look beyond journeymen players, instead cherry-picking those young, pacey players who will make those around them step up and help establish us as genuine promotion hopefuls.

I was just having a sarcastic dig on our player recruitment policy based on comments made by McCabe on Saturday morning! ;)

Sorry TB, I missed KM's comments. Do you have a link? I have mixed feelings about McCabe's tenure, some positive, others that are based on apparently foolish decision making, so it would be interesting to read his latest thoughts.

He's been impressive stats wise for several seasons.
