The Paddy situation leaves a dilemma for us Blades.... I know the West Ham fans (and any other anti Blades) will jump on this one.
We (SUFC) went on for almost two years about how the FA/ Courts/ West Ham/FIFA/ UEFA/ PL should do the right thing and punish West Ham appropriately so whats different now? For two years we were whiter than white and the reason that everyone is now jumping on us is because it looks like we've cocked up and they've all been waiting for this moment. Martin 'Fat' Samuel will be loving it and sharpening his knife to twist as we speak, whilst dreaming of another award for sports Journalism (the tw*t).
Whatever happens with Paddy we have to take the punishment on the chin and accept it.
If he gets a 2 year ban, then as long he has been found to have broken the rules them then thats what he gets.
After that we can question the severity of it and how we ourselves should handle Paddy.
Personally, I feel for the guy, it sounds (from what I've read) like it was a genuine, but completely stupid mistake. Perhaps we need to look at our own internal systems of how players get medication etc but we need to ensure that nothing like this happens again.
We're a very proud club and are not cheats, the fact that Paddy could have broken some rule with cough medicine is in itself ludicrous, but still the rules are there.
Fortunately we have a very astute management team and as we found in the Hume situation the club rarely makes statements or comments unless absolutely necessary. The media and the vultures can have their moment of glory, but we have a good management team that will no doubt sort this with limited fall out.
I'll say it again...Bloody Paddy!!!
