One of my happiest days.

Alf Ringstead rarely gets mentioned on here, but what a cracking little player he was. Good at going past defenders, great crosser of a ball and prolific goal scorer for a winger.

Just the sort of player us and many more would give their right arm for now.
Brilliant winger before Woodward.
Lived on Bishop Court Road RHS at bottom near Argyle Road with Joe Shaw living LHS at the top near Hollythorpe where the buses turned round, no 35 service, or a no 34 if coming down from Graves Park..
Used to be joined by Jimmy Hagan and the three used to travel to the lane for training.

No fancy cars in those days and little financial reward.

UTB.

Amazing.the good old days eh

Thanks for reply must have been great atmosphere from beginning to end and even in pub after

I can't vouch for the pub. I was only 12 years old at the time. I'm surprised that my Dad let me go to such a big match along with my pal, who was the same age as me. Kids had more freedom in those days, I suspect.

5' 7" tall, and scored a hat-trick of headers v Scunthorpe in October 1958. If memory serves me right (and Mrs HBT says it often doesn't), all 3 were scored in the first-half at the Lane end.

I wouldn’t! I gave my right arm for Tony Towner some years ago and look how that turned out.

I only have my left arm left. And I’m not giving that for anyone because I’m using it regularly.

I can't remember what admission prices were in 1951, but I recall that when I started going, in 1948, it was 1 shilling for a child and 2 shillings for an adult. (For the youngsters on here, thats 5p and 10p in today's money). When they raised the charge to half a crown for adults, my dad stopped going!

I see that the programme cost just two old pence.

I don't know the scoring sequence in the game but like the idea that we had three players on a hat-trick and they couldn't decide who would take the penalty...

Wednesday scored first, after 90 seconds. Fred Furniss was the regular penalty taker for United so it made sense for him to take it. Jimmy Hagan failed to score in this match but I imagine he provided a few assists.

I know what the admission fee for me was when I first started going in 1947 - precisely nowt !

My Dad would look at the turnstile operator and say " he's going to sit on my knee" , lift me over and then slip him a couple of Senior Service cigs - job done !

( I didn't, of course )

In that table it says Everton drew with Rotherham. That’s a surprise to me because I thought Everton were one of the few teams that had never been out of the top flight.
Last time top division clubs played out of top flight
Arsenal -1915 (through favoritism)
Everton - 1954
Liverpool -1962
Man U -1975
Spurs - 1978
Chelsea - 1989
Man City -2002

Tsssk, Silent dear Silent Blade what has happened to you for you know not what you have done.

Jim Phipps isn't around, CCV has gone back and there is no excuse for this colonial rubbish.

Have you recently been attending the Sean Thornton Young Ladies School of grammar, spelling and deportment?

Don't know we had posh people supporting us blades but thinking on we do have royalty ie the prince

Yes the “massacre” label used a long time before the Pigs did.

We’ve thrashed them 5-1 as well, we’re always massacring them.

Most points on a particular day is 10 points (assuming 3 points for a win for consistency) is us on Boxing Day.

They own nowt.

We ain't massacred them since the mid 60's. Still waiting. Best is a 2 goal advantage. Garbage Blades. Where's the Killer instinct?

Winning every time against them is satisfactory enough for me but you can' beat the odd massacre now and then.dont want it to become boring

There's only one side that has gone to the other's back yard and totally embarrassed them by scoring 4 ;)
