Brian the Blade sometimes mentions it when he rings up the Radio Sheffield phone-in.
He says he was a young lad and went to the match.
He also says United missed a last minute penalty to make it 8-3.

Fred Furniss had a penalty turned onto the post. Think it was some time around the half time mark not at the end.

Drawing 63 a piece at that stage the cartoon says, we’ve lept ahead since then.

And describes it as a “massacre”

Think we should copywrite that as that makes it 2-1 on that score as well.
Yes the “massacre” label used a long time before the Pigs did.

We’ve thrashed them 5-1 as well, we’re always massacring them.

Most points on a particular day is 10 points (assuming 3 points for a win for consistency) is us on Boxing Day.

They own nowt.

One of my happiest days.

Alf Ringstead rarely gets mentioned on here, but what a cracking little player he was. Good at going past defenders, great crosser of a ball and prolific goal scorer for a winger.

Just the sort of player us and many more would give their right arm for now.

2G Blade was there and remembered it very well (as you would!)

It is also worth noting that the match was only 28 years before they got their "revenge" on boxing Day 79 - That score had hurt them for a generation - hence why they still drag up Old Shit as if it is still relevant today, anytime they feel the need to do so.

I know people who looked after Alf as he suffered from Alzheimers disease. Died there in a Norton nursing home at age73 in 2000.

Fuck, Brooks is older than I thought.
ThaT is Harold Brook.
WeWhad a sitsituat similar to Billy 'Sharpe', Bramhall Lane, etc.
Even our very own WHF put an S on Foulke, to show more in celebration of Manchester United' s Bill Foulkes than our legendary goalkeeper .

When I was a young lad and caddied at Dore and Totley GC, Harold Brooks played there. He used to bring his daughter along now and again. As a 14 yr old lad, I fancied her like crazy. Unfortunately, she never noticed me. Fifty odd years later I still feel the pain of living on the wrong side of the track.

He lived on Prospect Road in Bradway and had twin daughters as far as I can remember. Perhaps it was a different one each time to keep you guessing.

That was Harold Brook.
We had a situation similar to Billy Sharpe, Bramhall Lane etc.
Even William Henry Foulkes had more in common with a Man United player than with William Foulke. No S in Foulke.

Well done Birkenhead Park, never easy at Paignton.

Loved to have been at that game
