Bash has come in for some criticism in recent weeks but today he ran Billy close for my MOTM. Put his body on the line in defence and was there as an outlet on numerous occasion. Bash isn’t a midfielder what he is as is a good Centre half who can get forward and really suits this system. Not the greatest game from us overall but good to see Duffy and Sharp back in the side. Unlike many I’m yet to be convinced by Evans he doesn’t do anything wrong but neither does he pick that killer pass. Still great win keeps Play offs alive

Bash was good today bar one mistake where he should have cleared.
Evans picked out Duffy with a couple of great passes first half.

You're always getting MOTM when you score a goal like that first one and then the winner from the spot, but in terms of general play I wouldn't have given it Sharp. Basham, Evans, and Duffy, in no particular order, all could've had it.

Basham is amazing at stealing the ball from opposition atrackers. It's remarkable how he often he manages to get a toe in and nick the ball away

Just wish he wouldn't turn his body and tackle with the outside of his foot so often,

Basham’s alright and can look good in games against opposition at our level, which he did today. However, he’s found wanting against the best teams in the division. Therefore if we are serious about promotion we need either for Basham to improve (which might not be beyond him), or find an upgrade. I suspect Wilder feels similarly given the fairly recent murmurs on Leneghan / Egan.

For what it’s worth, I rate Basham as a bloke. You can see he’s passionate, he plays wholehearted and even when we had a team full of spineless twats, he could not be accused of hiding. He has improved season on season with us, he has a great engine and can get up and down the pitch excellently. However, the system we play requires footballers with a strong first touch and ball skills. Bash, sadly is clumsy on the ball and slows too many of our attacks down. He often picks the wrong option and his crossing from deep is appalling.

He was better today when he was fulfilling the role he is predominately put on the pitch to be I.e. a defender. As a footballer though...he doesn't half look a clumsy xxxx. The man gets browny points for his honest endeavour but bloody hell....sometimes I wince when he gets on the ball and it pings off him as his control is shite. He will do a job for us but deep down most of us know that he is limited and if we really want to challenge at the top then he will be one of the first who needs to be replaced at some stage.

There's a reason he's almost looked upon as a utility player. He can do a job in a number of positions and is useful as he is versatile, but unfortunately he hasn't quite got it to be the top quality we need if we want to go to the next level.

He's a good lad though and he always gives his all. Goes a long way that in my book.

MOM for me today.

Was superb at all the ugly stuff and kept the big 9 (Lassoga) quite for the most part.

Pity his distribution isn’t better at times, but I guess he wouldn’t be at UTD if it was !

Well done Chris.

I thought O’Connal was marking their big number 9. Only time he left him he scored.

I'll still say it's our most obvious place to improve but he was defensively better today.

Bambi on ice when he's got the ball though :)

Agree with the first but Evans has done great ,Coutts never made the last assist ,but the 'killer' pass sometimes happens earlier on a move. Evans corners are a massive improvement too ,about time OConnell ,Stearman ,Clarke or Basham started meeting them.

Reminds me in a way of Stan. Good defender in L1 and good enough at this level, proper wholehearted player but sadly if we go up he won't be good enough. Although I didn't think Jake Wright would be good enough for L1 so I could be wrong.

Perhaps I'm a little harsh on Evans, just a couple of times today when he took the safe option for me that was all. But fair point on corners he does seem to fizz them in. We do need to start looking more likely from set pieces. Under Warnock a set piece was met with a real roar of expectation where as under Wilder we just seem relieved if we beat the first man and and don't get caught on the counter (not that I'd swap Wilder for Warnock). I don't think we needed a dangerous set piece in league 1 as we created chances for fun but would be nice for centre halfs to chip in with goals from set pieces especially when we have 3 on the pitch.

Another monster performance from Bash perhaps even better than Leeds game. Blocked two off the line kept Washington quiet all night. He even looked pretty good on the ball. Definitely my MOM although Clarke, Stearman and Lundstram get honourable mentions.
It just goes to show how opinions can differ, I thought Basham was shite in the first half but improved in the second, Clarke didn’t do anything until his lung bursting run in the last few minutes and Lundstram let them back in the game. For me Sharp, JOC and Blackman deserve far bigger mentions tonight.

That touch by Stearman to take it onto his left and play it down the line to Clarke for the Evans chance was a brilliant piece of skill. Thought Bash and JOC were also very solid, then you add in JB bossing it in goal. Very solid defence. Agree about Bash for motm but i also agree with Lunny getting it instead.

How was it Lunny that let them back in the game?

I thought it was him who sloppily gave it away in our half, I stand corrected if that wasn’t the case.
I can't remember tbh, that may have been the case but I think Evans could have and should have dealt with it.

You may indeed be correct about Evans but I can’t remember that part, the point I’m making is that Lundstram gave the ball away when our whole team wasn’t expecting him too, that puts us in a weak position straight away.
