Just testing public reaction ?

I'm not going to comment on the actual 'apparent' buy-out, but one thing i dont fully understand is why this statement was put out in the first place. It makes no sense to tell us that negotiations are taking place. We are no better off for knowing. Nothing changes, if anything it has undermined the current stability and wellbeing of the club with all the wild speculation. So why not wait until it is, or isn't, concluded ?
The only reason I can think of is to test public opinion. Maybe one or both parties believe that this news will not be well received, and they wanted to know just how strong the feeling might be ?

McCabe's been here a long time so I guess it does 'soften the blow' of his leaving by announcing this in stages.

I reckon whatever deal is going on is pretty much done, with us looking safe in the Championship they'll hopefully be in place to kick on in the summer with the higher level of investment.

I think the club would be much worse off come the summer if this were some some elaborate ruse to get Princey out and McCabe were left on his tod looking for new investors/buyer (again) and forking out for transfer's for 2018/19.

Because Cw's mate Wits and probably others are leaking suggestions of 'bad news' all over social media. Several threads started on Monday to try and second guess what this might be.

It is just sensible news management by the club. They may have hoped it would stay under wraps until a deal is concluded, but once the cat was out of the bag they had to react.

Certainly the timing and manner of the announcement is a bit strange.

AFAIUI the option came into play on 26/1/18 so HRH had no 'right' to anything before then.

Given that the option to purchase was put in place (presumably at the point HRH came in?) then there will likely be an agreed valuation mechanism and arbitration procedures in the event of a stalemate. This is most definitley not two market traders haggling to sell the cheapest oranges.

I'm aware of the 'probably not for the better' comment on Twitter from Wit...can you link to any other 'bad news' he's been spreading all over social media?

I suspect the 'probably others' are people elaborating on this one comment?

P.S- He also implies the club hasn't been backed by the owners in the same conversation...

Tell that to the anti-Brexit leftist elite in the BBC News ;)
In both cases, if negotiations are secret and 'we' (Blades/British people) have no say in accepting or rejecting the final deal, commenting on the processes going on now is our only hope of not being landed in deep shit.

I think that's the day he exercised the option.

Not sure if you are trolling here, but it is irrelevant who started it. As I said (in the bit you chose not to quote), threads developed on here just from Wits single tweet.

It doesn't matter who started it, the cat was well and truly out of the bag.

What's done is done and obsessing or why or how it got out is probably a waste of time IMHO. Feel free though.....

Personally I think we are looking at 2 options.

1. McCabe is chucking the prince under the bus and saying show your money. I want to show people its not me
2. The Prince has found some investors but they won't invest when they know how goes to McCabe, basically telling the Prince to buy out McCabe then we will do a deal. To me it sounds like the Prince has an investor or two and is making his play. It would be cheaper than a 3rd party coming in and buying them both out or shall I say easier.

I think I prefer the Prince. He's been at the club a number of years, he knows what doesn't work! and he can see from across the city what definitely doesn't work. If the Prince has money by whatever means I think he's the safer bet moving forward. If we graze through to the end of the season and finish 10th the investment won't change and the knives will come out.

Let us move forward.

I understand Kev was wandering around the Lane, alone, mulling over his options .........

Viewed the pitch from his seat in the Directors Box, then sauntered up the steps to the BLUT, memories rushing back of goals scored at that end .....

Made his way to the Kop, climbed the steps to row Z, and chose a seat to consider his options and reminisce ......

Sat Down, banged his knee and thought fuck it - I'm off

Has anyone thought because of all the recent corruption exposure over in Saudi Arabia the Prince may have not been able to access the funds he wanted to invest and now has access to money which was being diverted elsewhere at the time
He may have looked at Wolverhampton and thought let's go for it and Kevin wouldn't or couldn't match the money

I've seen a lot of posts about how Prince hasn't put a penny in so far (Even though he has, he wiped our debt, and helped us stay afloat) so imagine what he's gonna be like owning 100% etc etc.. in my opinion I believe McCabe has been holding us back (I've said this a lot in the past). Put yourself in Prince's shoes, you're 50% owner of a club, why would you put money in if your co-owner doesn't match it? Lets say Prince wanted to put 10milion in (as was rumoured) but McCabe says "I don't want to match that" (as was rumoured) why as a 50% owner would you still want to put 10million of your money in? Lets say Prince DID put 10million in and McCabe didn't.. and that got us to the prem where we'd make £300,000,000 just for going up, instantly McCabe has £150,000,000 all from Princes 10million pound investment, and Prince has lost £150,000,000 at the same time..

It makes absolutely no sense to put money in when your other 50% owner isn't. Maybe the Prince does want to invest, but only as a 100% owner?

The statement makes what McCabe said at the interview the other night make sense now. "I expect more from the Prince going forward"

There was no debt to "wipe out"

They've matched each other £ for £ so far.

As for McCabes profit of £150m and HRH's "loss" of the same figure, what is it exactly that you are smoking?

One thing I’m sure about is that McCabe will try to act in the proper way.

We do know a few factors.

1: McCabe does have the best interest of the club at heart and has consistently said he won’t just sell to the highest bidder.
He needs to be confident any new owner can take the club forward (in a good way).

2: McCabe has recently stated that the football landscape has changed and being a millionaire is no longer enough.
Owners now need to be billionaires or have equivalent massive financial backing from a consortium.

I have reservations too because the Prince alone doesn’t seem rich enough to fit the above criteria.

However I’m very confident McCabe will make sure he leaves the club in very safe hands.
The Prince is an insider and been the club a few years so McCabe will know him well and feels he can be trusted.

So I suspect that the Prince must have given McCabe gaurantees of substantial financial backing (either from investors or from his Saudi family). So I’m generally optimistic with slight concerns.

You said "Cw's mate Wits and probably others are leaking suggestions of 'bad news'"..suggesting a mass information coming from CW that he isn't happy about the change.

When in fact it appears to come from just the one tweet from Wit, in which he also said we weren't being backed by the board.

P.S- I'm sure Wilder will comment at his next press conference...or not! :D

The manager should have a word with his ‘mate’ to be perfectly honest. The club is a great deal wider than Tufty and his old pals. It’s very unprofessional to either permit or still worse, encourage such activity. The mate should know better anyway or maybe he likes his fifteen minutes?

This also for me, and a point I raised in the past, if hes such good mates with Wilder, why is he spouting off on twitter about if for all and sundry to see? Makes no sense, if my best mate did that, he wouldnt be a best mate for very long. Don't think CW would like his position undermined by some numbskull mate on Twitter,

Wit is no different to us in regards to his comment on Twitter. He said he wasn't too sure it was for the best.

Look at most people on here today. No harm no foul for me.

Maybe, though I think the cat was pretty much out of the bag by the time of that tweet...rumours of McCabe 'selling up' were rife around the club.

There was even a rather lengthy thread started on Jan 31st by a mister Blade56 predicting just this scenario. :)

Good post. McCabe's stated intention has always been to sell and to pass the club into good hands. Maybe he's just had the Prince on probation for the past 4 years and is happy to pull the trigger now.

Was his view blocked by a post or 2?

This is all a knee jerk response to my calls to allow dogs into the stadium.

One of them needs to take a lead here......

Exactly this.

I’ve read some interesting thoughts/ speculation/ conspiracy in the last week or so but the fact is nobody outside of the ownership circle knows what’s going on.

One thing I’m sure about is that McCabe will try to act in the proper way.

My personal opinion is that the deal is all but done. The announcement that the process is still to be negotiated is just to break it to the fan base gently

The clue for me is in Jimbob's statement, in that he has already publicly thanked KM for all he has done. Why do that before a deal has been negotiated and ultiamtely may not happen?

And if it had just been announced without this pre-notification most people would have been shocked and felt it was done behind their backs wouldn’t they? That would have created a bigger fuss and caused more concern.

They can’t win can they?

Personally I appreciate them telling us what’s happening before it happens.
