Say if we gave Billy....

again, penalty. apart from that he didn't have a good game. if he didn't get that penalty then it would've been a dire performance overall. but everyone only sees the goals side of things but not about how he actually plays. he didn't offer anything
Ah, the good old 'penalties don't count'

Classics in any James Beattie or Billy Sharp argument.

Our two best performances of the season came with him out the side. Wednesday away and Wolves at home.

The sooner Brooks is back, the better. He’s the one we are missing most, and he’s the one who needs to be playing alongside Clarke.
Wolves at home was only due to us having 10 men to be fair but I do agree, Brooks gives us the edge. He's the one who can offer us something different, come back into midfield to overload the midfield (would be even better now with Evans playing deeper I think) and then push up and support Clarke. Brilliant footballer.

Sorry but they were our 'best two results' IMHO.

Our 'best' performances came at Leeds and at home against Derby, Hull and Sunderland.

All about opionions, eh?
I think pigs away was a brilliant performance personally mate. Apart from just after half time till when they scored their 2nd and Duffy became the bounce killer we were pretty poor, the rest of the game we had them on the ropes all game.

Hull and Sunderland were brilliant performances but factor in the quality of the opposition - they were crap. Pigs and Leeds were much more impressive on the whole.

Yes you are probabaly right. Given they pulled it back to 2-2 I feared the worst, but Duffy certainly punctured that breif bubble.

We were under the cosh for quite a bit though and this was one of CCV's first games, winning headers a plenty and just the occassional slip over. On balance, how can I not say it was one of our best games.

Am I pig or something? Tunstall Fred can we have a 'bacon alert' check on my recent postings please?

You horrible pig B******D!!

No, in all seriousness it's a moment that we'll all take to our grave. Brooks playing off Clarke was a masterstroke and everyone raised their game tenfold.

For me - our creme de la creme performance of the season. But each to their own :)

Yes let's drop Billy.

172 minutes played per goal.

5th best goal per minute played ratio in the league.

We need to drop him now before he scores any more! o_O

but how many more runs does Billy need to be shown that he's probably not up to scratch in the modern championship?

...he didn't have a good game. if he didn't get that penalty then it would've been a dire performance overall ...he didn't offer anything

i'm up for benching clarke for the time being, ever since being given the armband and the talks of going to villa in the early JTW - he's gone downhill. probably needs a reality check as he probably thinks he's first name on team sheet

Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine?

Some Blades fans on Billy Sharp:

“Look, Lister, no point feeling sorry about Billy. It’s a kindness. Like a blind old incontinent sheepdog, he’s had his day. Take him out to the barn with a double-barreled shot-gun and blow the mother away. And I’m only saying that because I’m so fond of him.”
I’m now anticipating that at the end of the season Sharp will reveal he was actually Clarke all along.

Annoys me that about the Wolves game. Despite the early sending off I still think we started much the better team and were playing really well. After all it was after Clarke got put through on goal one on one that Coady pulled him down.

I know Brooks has had poor games when he has started but like any young player he needs time and perseverance, he’s our most talented attacker and I hope will get many more starts once fit again. He’s so much more than a good impact player which some of our fans pigeon hole him as.

I like Clarke and I like Sharp so I'm not going to start a Clarke v Sharp debate in the manner of Wright v Stearman. but lets talk captaincy here, Goals aside which they both contribute in good numbers. If we go behind Sharp gets it, he rallies the team I don't see that from Clarke. personally think he should be brought back in and play alongside Clarke.

end of the day though Wilder hasn't got us this far by knowing fuck all. so ill go with his better judgement.

Second half they really stepped on it though and missed a penalty. Great result, performance wasn't as good as some if you ask me.

Totally agree about Brooks though.

Irrespective of your views on Clarke the player, the decision to award him the armband, is frankly bizarre.

another run in the team of say over 5 games and he scores maybe 1 goal or maybe none... would people still rave about him?

A lot of people think he should be given another run... but how many more runs does Billy need to be shown that he's probably not up to scratch in the modern championship?

I'm curious as I believe Billy may have had enough chances however people think he deserves more. If so, then how many more?

When he's in the team, you start threads saying he shouldn't be (or even slagging Garyoke for saying "well played" when he comes off). When he's not in the team you're now starting threads fearing he might be brought back in.
Obsession it is then!

As an aside, whist we aren't scoring enough without him in the team (like now), there will always be calls for him to come back.
You can celebrate when he's gone, until then he'll always be an option.

like villa fans they are thinking Snograss has been deathly quiet , and all he did was score a goal, . wants dropping

It's just a simple question of tactics. Away from home when we try to get the ball over and let strikers run in behind defenders, Sharp is borderline useless. However increasingly in home games we have the ball in and around the box and have the option to get it in low. This is where Billy thrives, he reads the game well and has the ability to find space by standing still.

Horses for courses; one or both of Leon and the Don play against wolves. I'd go Leon, as it's his former club. But against Leeds I'd play Sharp, less room in behind for the two physical strikers.

You get a mega-like for the Red Dwarf quote sir.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

Billy’s goal output is massively dependent on tactics and the ability of his colleagues to create chances for him.
His finishing ability is still top class, give him any kind of chance and usually he’ll score. He’s our best goal poacher/ finisher.

The problem with Billy is that he’s not quick enough for the Championship and losing his sharpness off the mark.
Also he doesn’t offer a physical presence or height jumping for headers.
Also he’s not a dribbler and not got a trick to create his own chances or score a goal from nothing.

So if Billy plays we need to have a plan and use him properly.
However let’s not forget he’s experienced and the inspiration/ motivation he gives to his fellow team mates.
He deserves and has earnt respect from our fans, really pleased for him that his last spell at his beloved SU has been a success.

Robert Snodgrass - Windowlicker

Isn't he our second top scorer?

Yeah, our second top scorer isn't up to it.

Play Sharp and he will score goals. It's as simple as that.

He's scored 8 goals this season which is a lot more than some strikers in this division who have moved for millions of pounds.

Some of the criticism of the guy has been disgusting. He's a club legend in my eyes and deserves some respect.

Bill has been very unlucky recently and I think he deserves more chance but so do Clarke Wilson and Donaldinho but you can only pick two
