Just thought i'd see what everyone's thoughts are for how the rest of the season will pan out.

17 games left to try and get in that Top 6 before the season ends so how many more points do people think we will achieve and will it be enough?

My (probably way off) predictions are as follows:

Wolves (A) Loss
Leeds (H) Win
Reading (A) Draw
QPR (H) Win
Hull (A) Win
Burton (H) Win
Fulham (A) Loss
Ipswich (A) Draw
Forest (H) Win
Brentford (A) Loss
Cardiff (H) Draw
Barnsley (A) Draw
Boro (H) Win
Millwall (H) Win
Brum (A) Draw
Preston (H) Win
Bristol City (A) Loss

That would see us finish on 75 points so realistically would this be enough?

In July I predicted a 6th place finish. So around the 75-78 point mark.

Right now I think we will fall short of this. Maybe 72 points ish for 8th ish spot.

In the last 10 games we have Won 2, Drawn 3, Lost 5.

So 9 points from 10 games.

That form at 0.9 points a game would give us 15.3 points out of our last 17 games so put us on 61 points.

I hope we do much better but it would take a massive upturn in form to get anywhere near 75 points.

It's all down to if we can start turning all our possession into an end product i.e. GOALS!
We need to start punishing teams.
Last night we had plenty of possession and 4 very good chances, but for their keeper it would have been a completely different result.
I've criticised our build up play and possesion as 'pedestrian' but better teams than us play like this, but have the ability to breakdown the opposition AND score goals!

I'm optimistic that we will win some games in the run in, but unless we improve in terms of goal scoring I feel we'll draw too many games to get a play off spot now!

completely depends on home form /confidence-, away i think we will pick up a good few wins there atleast

we could really do with a confidence boosting home win -Leeds will do just fine !

we need to stop conceeding soft goals

We need someone..Brooks? To run at the defence get players to commit and create space .possession is great but there has to be an end product and running direct at defenders causes panic . We can still make the top 6 but we need the new signings firing and going direct when it's needed

We’ll win a few more we’ll lose a few more and finished around 10th.

Considering we have no money to spend this will be a great achievement.
Let's face it, pre season most of us would have been happy to finish mid table, but because we had such a good start anything less than a play off spot will now be seen as a failure!

There's games there that could see us go an a proper run.

If Brooksy comes back guns blazing, and Wilson discovers his first touch after a few games, we play like we did yesterday and we continue to improve our set pieces we're very capable of winning most of those.

But it's United.

We'll beat Wolves 4-1 on Saturday and lose 2-0 to Burton haha

I thought we'd kick on with the new signings and finish 5th or 6th. Now I'm not so sure. Last night was only one game obviously but it was a big blow, in my eyes. Could've really done without losing.

But we do have a winnable looking bunch of games after Wolves. String a few wins together and we'll be in the thick of it again.

As others have said, Brooks can't come back soon enough. We need him, and from the start too.

That is true, but equally it required massive downturn in form for us to fall out of the title race since the start of November.

No reason we can’t start converting chances and picking up wins regularly again. We’re still playing good football.

70 points tops & about 8th or 9th, not a bad return to league 2 [in old money]

I think that winning all home games + 9 points in the away games should be enough for the play-offs.

My prediction is that we stay in this league and have the summer to improve further. I would have taken that in August.

Wolves (A) Loss
Leeds (H) Loss
Reading (A) Loss
QPR (H) Loss
Hull (A) Loss
Burton (H) Win
Fulham (A) Loss
Ipswich (A) Loss
Forest (H) Draw
Brentford (A) Loss
Cardiff (H) Loss
Barnsley (A) Draw
Boro (H) Loss
Millwall (H) Loss
Brum (A) Loss
Preston (H) Loss
Bristol City (A) Loss

5 points just enough to avoid the drop :D

Well Brooks certainly seems to have got a lot better while he’s been out ill, with the impact some are expecting him to have!
Not really, I think we all saw at Hillsborough what he is capable of. We have nobody else in the squad who can do that.

We need Brooks to run at them down the left hand side, win a free kick and up pops Ricky Holmes for his signature free kicks :)

Simples really

Yes should stop up with that number of points.

Interesting this season how after each match when we've had lots of chances but not scored we fans think we've been up against a great keeper, our league is full of them. I didn't think their keeper had any difficult saves to make, our efforts were either straight at him or soft so I'd have expected most keepers to save them.
I suspect we'll end up on 60 to 65 points and mid table which I would have taken in August but is a missed opportunity by our failure to learn and adapt to the championship and improve our technique in the attacking third.

I think we'll do better in our away games. Teams are set up in such a way at the Lane that we are struggling to come up with a solution to break them down.

Going in 0-0 at half time on Tuesday I felt we'd lost our opportunity of winning the game. We were good in that first half but I knew Villa couldn't play any worse in the second half as they did in the first.

We need to get a first half lead and then teams will have to open up in the second half and that will create more space / opportunities for us to exploit.

Away from home our opponents have to be more open from the start. We shouldn't fear Wolves, Fulham, Bristol City.

We are one of if not the best footballing sides in this division.

Appreciate we play totally different teams in our next 17 matches but our last 6 games in the league have produced 2 wins, 2 draws & 2 losses = 1.33 points per game.
Keep that form going & we'd finish the season on 69 points - not enough for the Play Offs I fear, but not that far away. A nice little run of form as we approach the end of the season is what we need to get those few extra points & carry that momentum into the Play Offs & pinch the bloody thing!
How many times has that happened? Well, I honestly don't know - but it often gets talked about & maybe it's our year to do it.
If we don't get there, we'll still have had a banging season - but I'm not giving up hope yet.

I’ve got us around the 71 Mark ( If I can add). The likelihood is we will get a few more than this, but I predicted it game by game basis rather than solely on paper . Leeds,Reading, QPR, Hull, Burton are most certainly ALL games you would think we would win on paper but it’s very unlikely we will win 5 games in a row. Anyhow, anything over 70 is outstanding.

Obviously as a Preston fan, I hope we make it but I don’t think we will because we don’t win enough home games. I think you lot could be in with a great shout however.
