So after the dull, but nevertheless deserved victory on Saturday, it's all eyes on a potentially mouthwatering clash this evening as we welcome Aston Villa. We would seem to be getting over our mini slump, which hasn't actually seen us play that bad anyway. But Villa will be well up for this tonight, as of course will Wilder's troops....

So...

Any team news? ;)

Revert back to the side that started v Norwich?

Ched seems like the weakest option we have in terms of a 'super sub'.

Wilson a sure starter?

Sharp some game time after his cooly struck penalty? :)

On TV again, which is going to be somewhat of a theme over the next few weeks, and a chance to move back into the top 6. Very difficult game, but considering how we played at Villa Park a few weeks ago, I don't see any reason to be nervous. Fancy a few goals again, and I reckon 2-2. But I'll be optimistic as ever and suggest we edge it 3-2 for the first victory over Villa in the 2nd tier at BDBL since 1969....

take plenty of 10 p's for leccy meter, appears to be some sort of power cut in s2 area...just been past lane on mi way to work..all street lights out and traffic lights not working..

Will probably be the same team that started at Norwich. Only possible change I could see is either Duffy or Holmes coming in but I doubt it.

We need a minimum of 5 points out of these next three games (may get away with 4 ) to keep us there or there abouts so we need something from tonight otherwise it puts pressure on us getting something from the very tough game at Wolves.

We may see a more Conservative approach tonight than what we have been used to.

No, I reckon the lads will put some extra Labour in and win it.

I think that Ricky Holmes is a definite starter. We haven’t been chasing him for 18 months for him to sit on the bench.

No, I think he’ll play tonight so that everyone can see the reasons why he’s here.

Nothing to be afraid of here boys. Villa are a decent championship side...but we are better.

Emminently winnable game this and we should fear no one at the Lane.

We play well, we will win, and that would be very sweet indeed re 'Quitter the Bruce'.

I'm all in for a Blades win. 3-1.

According to Alex Hammond on sky sports, we haven't beaten villa for last 8 games against them. I'm assuming it was meant league games as I immediately thought cup games of 2014 and 2004 (possibly 2005).

Its a simple mistake but she is meant to be a Sheffield united fan, so you would have that she would pick up on that..?

Well let's make it our first 'league' win in however many games!

Sorry, there's no way he replaces arguably our player of the season so far.

They are on a much better run than when we played them just before Xmas, if they managed to beat us tonight that would be 5 victories in a row.

They look very sharp on the highlights I've seen last 2 matches and players like Hogan are finally coming good. I think with players like Snodgrass they can take apart anyone on their day but they have just been so irratic over the majority of the season.

I think this could really go either way, think both teams will face a tough battle but really hoping for we can come out with 3 points. Should hopefully be a cracking game and atmosphere, a win today could do wonders for the confidence of the new lads which are likely to start.

We might well see Holmes and Duffy together st some point, with Duffy in his usual position and Holmes just behind Clarke (the Brooks role at the Sty). Not necessarily tonight but in an away game perhaps.

Maybe, however, i see Donaldson as a key factor when playing away, purely as we have more space to play him in behind - like both goals at Villa for example.

?? Your score prediction doesn’t seem to match your confident words

It's my default prediction, I always fear the worst will happen if I don't get it down somewhere in print.
I've said before, it's no coincidence that our run of results* has faltered since the score predictions/options/pole thingy disappeared.

*I refuse to allude to a "dip in form" as I don't think we've particularly performed badly in general even since we dropped off top.

Exactly. And Leonard or Evans will start ahead of Lundstram for precisely the same reason.

I'm feeling a strong 3-1, (Holmes, Leonard, Donaldson)

Your bang on about the score, but you've got the scorers the wrong way around. Holmes is gunna be a sub and will come on to wrap it all up and be the villa killa.

Nayow, think we'll be right at them from the kick off. GERRINTERREMFUCKEMUP

Seriously can't believe the amount of people that want Holmes in, instead of Duffy already.

Brooks in the next best thing since sliced bread and he couldn't get in ahead of Duffy.
I would say Brooks is more of a 'false 9' playing off the front-man more than the advanced playmaker type like Duffy, I think both can and will play together.

I'd agree with this.

Still don't se Holmes jumping straight in...UNLESS, Duffy is knackered. Let's be honest, neither played against Norwich and our midfield dominated for the first hour of that game.

As sterner test as we've had at home this season. We need to avoid defeat. Win and we're still in the hunt for 2nd place, lose and we're in a dogfight for 5th or 6th place.

I think they'll play 4-5-1 (possibly 4-4-1-1), with Hogan as the lone striker. Jedinak or Bjarnason as the defensive shield, Hourihane buzzing about and looking to score, with the creativity being provided by Grealish. They'll be looking to get the ball to Adomah on their left, Snodgrass on their right as frequently as they can.

As much as I wasn't happy with Saturday, I'd happily take the same performance & result tonight. :) It's got a 1-1, 2-1 either way feel about it.

Theyll be looking to get free kicks around the box. Grealish will be diving at the slightest touch. Snodgrass one of the best at free kicks. If we give many away they will punish us for sure.

Is it wanting this to happen or expecting it too? I think for the home games, we’ll go back to having the Duffy role – I believe the only occasions we’ve gone for a more standard midfield 3 have been away, and I don’t think we’ll deploy it at home or use this tonight. I think we will see Duffy and Holmes rotated here-on in, and due to him playing Saturday I reckon we’ll see Holmes start with Duffy subbing in (and perhaps the reverse of this vs Leeds).
