Conspiracy Theory

I don't think there's an actual conspiracy - just too much incompetancy from referees and the football authorities that makes it feel as though they're out to get us. If the "Respect" initiative had included refs being a bit more transparent about their decisions and the FA had been more open about Tevez we might feel a bit better.

The closest it gets to a conspiracy in my opinion is the sub-conscious bias people (some refs in particular - if you can count them as "people" rather than reptiles :D) have towards the familiar (usually Premiership clubs) and/or against those perceived in a negative light. This has to count us!! Linz has mentioned the reputation for physical long ball tactics we got under Bassett, not helped by Warnock's reputation and ref baiting - and perhaps most recently by Blackies comments about Dean.

Thing is - how do you get of it?? If the refs (sub-consciously) penalise a club due to it's reputation, and you complain about their unfair decisions, you re-inforce the negative reputation that leads to the decisions being unfair!

Unless your name is Ferguson!!

So - They are out to get us, but they don't know they are! Does that count as a conspiracy? :p

i totally agree it was not the refs fault that we lost, but how many times do we witness their inept performances that dont help matters and as for their neutral stance, which on many occasions is a joke, reminds me of graham (you,ve all come to watch me) poll, when we played leeds utd in our promotion season with only a few games left, this guy was warming up by running around the pitch giving high fives to the leeds players, what a joke and a tosser,i could,nt believe what i was seeing and as i sit six rows from pitchside, i know my eyes were not playing tricks, sorry to go on,but life would be boring if we did,nt have our opinions and moans

Couldn't agree more sothall blade. Then again, that's one of the reasons why I don't want all this video referee malarkey. At least if you get stuffed 1-0 in the 9th minute of injury time by the dodgiest penalty in Christendom, we can still moan about the ref!

Personally I'd like a video ref cos I've seen too many crap ref decisions that have cost us big time. I don't have a problem about getting beaten by the better team (I've had plenty of practice :o) - but I'm fed up with feeling that idiots like Foy, Dean and Poll have been the opposition's 12th man. If we have to be beaten, then let's get beaten fairly and be able to prove it - like in rugby and cricket.

Back on the conspiracy theme - It'd be interesting to know whether fans of smaller, unfashionable clubs are more in favour of video refs than glory hunter fans are.

Thing is though me old soggy'un, we've also been on the right side of some. Sunny Jim's impression of Jackie Chan by the South Stand/Kop corner springs immediately to mind.

The irony as far as smaller clubs are concerned, is that they'll be less bothered. Come along to Club and see how many bay for a spot kick.

The video refs get it wrong too. I can remember at least three referrals in the Windies where the LBW decisions were terrible. There were more. One was so high above the knee roll it was untrue, not to mention almost certainly going down leg.

I looked at the initial delivery from the privileged view of the Capitalist TV seat, and knew immediately that 'not out' should have been the verdict, yet the Third Umpire got it horribly wrong and sent the batsman (Sarwan, as I recall).

Would Rob Styles also refer to a video referee for 'intent' ;)

At the end of the day we all know there was no way the fa were gonna allow the Blades to go up!, hence the hand-picked allotment of dean for this game!, hang your head in SHAME keith (no longer held in high regard on either side of this city) hackett. blackwell must also take a fair chunk of the blame for his idiotic verbal attack on dean prior to the game!!.

ssssssttttrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeee 1 :D

Haha if this is the level of humour on these forums i think i'm gonna like it here:thumbup:
And btw i agree we were poor on Monday, pens or no pens. Burnley deserves it more

sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with some of you guys. By the rules of the game we should have had (at least) 2 penalties. If we'd have scored from those penalties regardless of whether the other team played prettier football or not we would've won. By that token I don't think Burnley deserved to win, I think we did and we were cheated out of it. Them's the rules.

By the way did anyone spot the 3rd penalty? A handball inside the area. Possibly not as nailed on as the other two but it looked deliberate and more than ball to hand to me.

Right, I've said my bit. It's done now. Roll on the next season so the mighty blades can take the ccc by storm. (I honestly don't think newcastle or middlesboro are going to offer much in the way of a challenge although west brom usually do).

Had heard that the PL did not want Sheffield Utd promoted. There does seem to be an unwritten rule that one PL side does not sue another and Sheffield Utd has tried to go against that. Promotion to the PL is via invitation and the rumours I heard were they were very relieved to not have to send that invitation.

Come off it, theres no conspiracy. Its simple, you were beaten by a better Burnley side on the day and theres no shame in losing to that goal as it was a class finish. As for Howards penalty claim, PAHH, never. I'm sorry but that was a dive. Anyways, Good luck for next season :)

He's a West Ham fan having a laugh ;)

birmingham city, luckiest team in the championship, that luck may desert you next season.

Lucky? Everyone gets luck now and again and for me we've been slightly unlucky this season. Not to forget we've only had one penalty this season whereas cardiff had around 20. Speaking of penalties that one you got against us at brammall lane this year was a joke!

By luckiest i think your referring to the last minute winner we got against you in the first game of the season. Super kev scored if i remember rightly.

I'm sorry if i offended you, but i think its ridiculous to think that there's a conspiracy behind you not getting promoted this season. Sour grapes? The reason why you lost is because of a fantastic goal and the fact that Burnley (who i think have a weaker squad than you) were better than you on the day.

United were crap most of the season thats the truth.
Owd blue nose will soon ruin Brum.

nah yer did,nt offend me mate, just my humble opinion of all the lucky wins and draws you got,and to have a manager (or the club) that does,nt seem to know if he will be there next season, did,nt seem to bode well for your big return.

i have a sheffield street guide if you want one, still if you witnessed the lucky penalty at bramall lane, you would have seen enough street signs, any way that reminds me of your quedrue behaving like a wrestler throwing opponents about,a definate red card, thats what i mean about lucky

Gentlemen, can I just remind you that we welcome fans of all teams on here :)

It's nice to hear what other people have to say.

And for some reason, we have an awful lot of guests looking at this thread this morning...

we also hammered you football wise at bramall lane so by your recning we deserved the win as did burnley. also acording to most reports we were the beter team in the 1st game of season
Is football about who plays prettier and entertaining - if so we deserve to go up and not you?
you cannot have it both ways. it is how it is. you can have that pen chalked off at our place providing we can have the two given at Wembley.

I have been a long time reader of this forum, but this thread has finally 'broken the camel's back' and I feel compelled to reply.
What I am about to say, is not going to win me any friends and will also probably get me accused of being a west spammer in disguise. This is not the case, but here goes:

1. There is NO conspiracy against Sheffield United. This is just fans looking for excuses and justification for us not getting promoted.

2. We didn't get promoted because we WEREN'T GOOD ENOUGH on the day.

3. We sued Wet Spam, which is a breach of Premier League rules, especially after we signed an affi-davit stating that we were satisfied with Wet Spam's punishment regarding the Tevez affair (until we threw away a 10 point lead that is!!).

4. If there was a conspiracy, the PL would want us to get promoted so that they could refuse us our place in their league, in line with the rules relating to the above. As a private company the PL would be in their rights to do this and there would be NOTHING we could do about it!!

5. With regards to 'Tevezgate', it appears the waters have become so muddied, we no longer actually understand the issue. Tevez was NEVER ineligable to play for Wet Spam. The issue regarded the fact that Wet Spam did not own the rights to the player - a third party did and the spammers were punished for this - and rightly so!! There was never any question surrounding the player's registration!

6. Carlos Tevez did not get us relegated WE DID - again we simply weren't good enough when it mattered. All we did was bleat about it like children in the playground and make ourselves a laughing stock that is despised by most of the football league for being 'bad losers' - remember the Arsenal / FA Cup fiasco?

As I stated at the beginning of this post, I've probably not made any friends due to this post, but I really believe that the only eway to redeem ourselves is to stop whining and bleating on about non-existant conspiracy theories, pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, and concentrate on getting back into the premiership on our OWN MERIT, which I believe that with the right leadership we can achieve next season!!

Not everyone who is replying to this post believes that there is a conspiracy,so dont tar everyone with that brush.
I Think that we may have had a lot of bad luck though in the last few years and especially in the prem season.
that season does prove that luck does not equal itself out over the season.
you also cannot create your own luck if it fall at another clubs feet.
With regard to the PL being a private company, do we have the right as fans/Customers of that product being supplied by that company to compensation? was a fraud commited by that company?
if so where are the serious fraud office for a company with such a big turnover?

I'm not legally trained, so I'm unsure where anybody would stand with regards to any claims regarding a possible fraud.

Please don't think for one minute I was tarring every supporter with the same brush, I wasn't - I just believe that the fate of this club is now in it's own hands and the time for blaming external factors is over and perhaps it is time for a little introspection!!

I cannot be bothered to drag up the Tevez issue again but i have never heard a Sheffield United fan with such an obviously pro-West Ham point of view on this subject.

I disagree with almost every word which you have written but as i suspect you are a West Ham fan posting in the guise of an exiled blade i dare say any attempt to have a rational debate would prove to be folly.
