One of my mates is a director of a fairly large construction company and he messaged me about this yesterday asking whether they should bid for the work!

What did you say?
I might be tempted to say that it depends if his firm needs the job in the next 10 years. If it does then I wouldn’t bother as although that looks amazing, I don’t see us completing it unless we had something to build it for....like a World Cup. And that’s not going to happen.
Even if we got to the premier league, I don’t see anything other than the Kop being done at best.

If they’re interested in taking on a contract for which they’ll likely never have to put a shovel in the ground, tell them to crack right on!

For this to start, we’d need to get up and stay up in the premier league. I’d love to see it happen mind.

Didn't realise the following "which is the world’s oldest continuously used professional football venue". Is that correct?

I can retire from IOM, return to Sheffield where I am from and buy a studio home on John Street. Let's hope this pipe dream starts smokin! UTB!

Your a negative Nellie with that attitude we can return to the Prem and stay there !!
It would then be expanded and what a fine stadium it would look.

You won't get one. The waiting list of people wanting to relocate from Dore and Whirlow to The Bramall Lane area is immense. It's the value of the land you see.....

We’d have to be imaginative with ticket prices. I think stoke kept theirs affordable due to their catchment. Everyone else seems to want to cream the ticket prices despite the 100’s of millions they get from TV and other revenue. Chelsea want something like 28% corporate seats in their proposal so basically excluding a generation of fans. Which is wank.

Is a studio home the same as a bedsit?

HH

More or less HH. It all depends whether you want small (meaning very little storage space) or something that doesn't suffocate (not literally you understand).

Sheffield has had many new builds springing up for some time, and if you go by the lingo chosen by landlords then they'll refer to boutique, where you or I would select pokey. So you pays your money and takes your choice. I live in a fairly typical one bed apartment on Shoreham St. It does the job, I could do with more room though - too many cds, dvds, books - but I'll manage even if I have to chop off a limb! Are you considering moving, or was it merely a question born out of idle curiosity?

Why you all mocking this? It looks fantastic. The ground is already pushing capacity for some games in the Champ. Have ye no faith that we'll get promoted to the Prem any time soon?

A strange thing to do! If he was bidding for work on a bus lane would he text all his mates who ride on buses?!

Having searched this to find out on google, this thread came up which might be worth a read. It appears Bramall Lane is in fact the oldest, but deepdale is the most continuously used- by one club. As they were playing at Deepdale before the formation of Sheffield United.

As others have suggested before, this is possibly more about the club chasing new investment / ownership than anything else. Having this application approved and ready to go could make SUFC an (even more) attractive proposition to billionaire X, Y or Z.
