There is almost a sense of 'this will be a hammering' coming from our side this time around. This sort of arrogance is the attitude of our neighbours! King Chris won't let them think this will be easy! Are we getting overconfident?

We've got the upper hand for a change. OK we might lose but nowt wrong with making the most of it in the meantime and watching them squirm.

I do think an element of the fan base are getting a little over confident but luckily the fans aren't playing. The players won't be over confident because Wilder won't let them be.

This has been my concern the last few days. I will take a 1-goal lucky win at this stage, but even that I suspect would be a disappointment for those expecting some sort of Boxing Day esque score. In addition to being less on it last time out, they underestimated us as a club and the memory of that will not have gone unnoticed, regardless of the change in manager. One misstep – a sending off, an early goal conceded, a dodgy penalty – could change the complexion of this in an instance. Remember how we dominated last time at the Lane only to throw it away at the death through freak errors?

I can rarely enjoy these games. The 2-4 was perhaps the first I’ve been able to enjoy confidently during a game since the 3-1 in 2003.

Deffo take a 1-0, deflected off one of their's arses, flukey win now.

Run up to Derbies often feel like a film script - the characters, the challenges, the expectencies, the arc from what you THINK will happen to what ACTUALLY happens: when it's all looking good for us I can only assume we're going to get a nasty surprise in the final third.

We dont have the advantage of knowing how they will play , the unpredictable Dolphin Killer may even have offered a them fat win bonus ,

Both teams have 6 points from the last 9 games, relegation form all round, no matter how unlucky or how well you played. 3 points on Friday will settle my stomach a little.

3 points on Friday and I will have an extremely good weekend.

Don't think I have every known it to be this bullish from Uniitedites in general. I may self will not be convinced until the match is over. One stupid challage from Fleck or Basham could be a straight red then all bets are off. We have seen it all before. Yes I think we will win, but I think it will be close, pig players will be up for it for the new manager.

I wouldn’t say I was over-confident. They were pretty shite last time, but we looked rattled when they scored and if Duffy puts that one wide, it’s a different game.

We don’t like admitting it but they have some good players and probably little to play for other than this. New gaffer as well.

I think we will win, but the “anything can happen on a derby” cliché is still an accurate one.

‘Tis a kind and optimistic man that describes Simmo coming miles off his line and getting nowt as a “freak” error :)

Or placing the ball on the penalty spot.

That ball has just passed out of the solar system, by the way.

Wednesday players will be looking for revenge after we humiliated them in their own back garden, however Wilder has installed into the players and fans a group mentality, the players know what a Sheffield Double would mean to us, the likes of Sharp, Wilder and Leon (on a mission to make it a hat-trick this time round) won't allow the squad to rest.

We're still in with a very good shout of a top 6 spot, which we won't want to give up without a fight and i believe after 6yrs of taunts, pub league etc, our players will be doing it for us fans.

You know going to a game not nervous for the fans is a good thing. I am not saying we will win, but we should be confident of a victory so where is the harm. The one thing as you have mentioned is that Chris will have the players in a different mindset. Add both together and it could be a magic Friday night. It really isn't that dissimilar to the 3-1 win on Friday night about 14 years ago.

They will have players with transfer fees totalling nearly £30 million more than 10 times the cost of ours. Surely then we have no chance.:(

In my lifetime we've been the underdog more often than not in these games, and it's instilled in us a bit of a siege mentality whereby we don't like to show confidence for fear of the humiliation of getting knocked off our perch, and the flipside being that any wins we gain taste so much sweeter from a position of 2nd favourite.
Many experiments show however that a confident party will generally outperform one lacking in confidence more often than not.
I've no qualms at all about being confident as long as it's done with a bit of class, and backed up with 100% effort, which is almost a given with the current set up.
We are coming up against a mid-table side who have just been held to a goalless draw against a lower league side, and been hammered in their own back yard by relegation candidates. They are led by a manager who cannot have had nearly enough time to know his players well, have some injuries, have a season petering out and according to some fans, the players are not particularly fit.
We are not in great form ourselves but generally playing well, won our last match away, buoyed by new signings, owned, led and captained by Blades, are the fittest I can remember, only 1 major injury blow, at home and with plenty to play for.
The way to approach this is with confidence, controlled aggression, and just enough fear to focus but not freeze. It's going to be tough, it fucking well should be, it's what we live for, but in Wilder we trust, in those snarling but skilful wizards we trust. It's 11 v 11 but 28,000 v 2000, COME ON YOU RED & WHITE WIZAAAAAAAAAARDS!!!!!!

think its based on we are a better side , they have a lot out injured and are playing shit to be honest
think if we read bookies odds and we seem to be fancied

There will only be about 3 players in their side on Friday that was in the one we beat in September. For all their injury woes though it's worth keeping in mind their team will still have cost about £20m more than ours.

they cost a lot more than that than us in september

cost has very very little to do with it

we are playing well , they are not

This. Anyone who thinks they will roll over for us hasn't been to many Derby games. They will look to play like Notlob and nick a win. First goal is vital. Fussy referee won't help. We need to convert our chances and keep the intensity up all through the game. It will be a tight game. We are 18th in the form league and they are 24th.

Hopefully the fans confidence will be nice and obvious when they walk out Friday and turn into some good noise for em.

They know what it means, they'll be confident and not complacent at all.

The staff and team approach the game the same way we approached it at the rust bucket and we will get a result

Complacency, over confidence and arrogance must not and cannot be on the agenda

Hopefully at full time we can give them both fkin barrels, but not before
