He fights for a start, and stops us needing to play Bash in midfield when we're short.

I don't think he comes straight into the side, but all it takes at the moment is an injury or suspension to Fleck or Lundstram and we're struggling.

Isn't the point though that we need someone to come straight in and give us what we're lacking ?

My guess is that Lundstram is the likely candidate but it's a comment that applies to any potential new signings, someone would have to be left out who's not done a great deal wrong and that creates it's own problems.

Obviously we need to move on and get better and there'll be casualties but it's a thin line with a youngish squad who have done well on the whole.

We probably need him as soon as possible to be honest. We are threadbare in midfield.

Exactly this.

We’re down to the bare bones in the middle of the park. I Think if it’s doesn’t look like it’s gonna get done in the next week or so move on.... No point in messing about for a month while we could actually have someone in the squad.

He either wants to come or he doesn’t.

I think the decision of him coming doesn't lie with Leonard but with Ron, as he holds all the cards, until we agree a fee and my guess is he just wants to keep Leonard for as long as he can and him leave on transfer deadline day.

I don't think Leonard wants to kick up a stink, he's played nearly 300 games for them so is a bit of a stalwart, probably doesn't want his reputation damaged

Aye, its basically between us and Ron but they will sell I'm sure because they are so unlikely to go up now and obviously they'll lose the player for nothing in the summer. Its a no brainer but seems to be taking forever!

I think you're ignoring the possibility of there being other interested clubs.

True, but I reckon unless they meet the asking price then they'll be in the same boat but obviously that remains a possibility but you would also think that if that was the case Leonard would have moved by now, since we've being courting him longer than an ice age!

He still has the option of running down his contract and signing for whoever he wants. To date that appears to be his preferred option, Utd want him now but would be sensible to get an alternative premiership midfield play on loan for six months before taking him for nothing in the summer.
We have tried to negotiate, their chairman seemingly does not want to and subsequently it is up to us to call his bluff and challenge the player to make it known he wants to come now or sit tight until the summer.
Alternatively sign for AN other and wallow in the lower reaches of the Football league

Has Leonard offered in quotes that he wants out of Southend United and BDTBL is where he sees his football career to further?

(I ain't trawling thru' 180+ pages... )

Not at all. Very much 'I'm concentrating on playing for Southend bla bla if something happens it happens bla bla'.

Professional stuff.

My guess is that Lundstram is the likely candidate but it's a comment that applies to any potential new signings, someone would have to be left out who's not done a great deal wrong and that creates it's own problems. Some may well prove good enough to start almost straight away.

I don't know. Fleck and Lundstram have been very good. I think the idea is just to add quality depth so that we have the luxury of mixing things up whilst maintaining a similar level.

Right now, Carruthers is our back up, and he's not good enough. I don't really have a highly informed opinion of Leonard, even after this monster thread. But he appears to be a very consistent player, with different attributes to what we currently have in that area.

If we can get an Adam Clayton type player as well, great. But signings like Lundstram, Baldock and Stevens are what we should expect, which is fine by me. Some obviously won't work out (Carruthers, Hussey) but as we've seen, many will.

this Thread was much easier when it was just pictures of tits, now to catch up I have to read..... :confused:o_O
Don't bother. It's just the same comments repeated ad infinitum. The only thing that's changed is that Lundy is now looking the part so maybe Wilder is a bit less desperate to do a deal than he was a few weeks ago. If Leonard wants to play for us, he'll continue to refuse a new contract and tell the club he's off in the summer. If he'd rather go to Millwall, fine, we want ambitious players, not ones that chose the easy option of staying local.

What happens if a player who has only 4 months to go to the end of his contract and he breaks his leg (like Coutts). At the end of the 4 months is he without wages and medical support?

Surely it's in his interest to get a new contract sorted for security.

Imagine paying 750k for him at the end of the month when he effectively has 3 months left on his contract? Fuck that.

If Ipswich are seriously interested I think we can forget it anyway. It's not far from Southend.

He’s announced that he rejected a contract renewal at Southend which would make him their highest paid player.
So his actions prove he sees his future elsewhere.

There’s no doubting Wilder will have spoken to Leonard’s agent and probably even the player himself, to gauge his interest.
The fact that Wilder remains interested suggests that Leonard is interested in joining us.

He could kick up a fuss at Southend but to his credit he’s been a model pro still giving 100%.
Wilder loves honest committed players with that attitude.

fuck him if hes pissin us about shop elsewhere dragin on an on whos he think he is sauffend billy big bollocks chris take ya money off the table

Does anybody else think we’re being used to get an auction going because it seems as though we are being played here, time to make a final bid and take it or leave it and move on, surely we can’t be short of a million...

Got a sneaky feeling we’ll get dragged along and wate the window on this guy, only to lose a player on the last day so we can’t react... hmmmmm. Ever happened before ..
