I hope this doesn't come back to bite us down the line but he's not exactly a player who struggles to find a club if we wanted to sell at a later date.
And all the better for the experience he can pass on to youngster's. The game is about much more than 90 minutes on the pitch.Bit of a stupid decision to give him such a long one, he'll be 35 wen it's over.
Let’s just wait and see how this plays out before giving ourselves a slap on the back.
Mixed emotions.

The new contract would improve the clubs bargaining position if a transfer was on the cards.Bit of a strange one for me, obviously he’s having a great season and deserves to be rewarded for that. However with a contract for next season I’m surprised we haven’t waited to see how he performs over the next 12 months.
At nearly 33, a two and a half year contract protects the player far more than the club as even if Villa did come knocking he isn’t going to be worth very much.

Better get used to him, he'll be here for another 5 years at least, and somehow I don't think a 37 year old Leon will be quite as popular as he is now. Bananas bit of business by United if you ask me.
Hilarious. Just admit that you’re really hoping he fails so that you can claim that you were ‘right’ all along.

But even so, it’s wildly optimistic to think we could get £1m for him, which would not be enough to secure a suitable replacement.

Where’d you get five years and 37 from Snoots?
If that was the case surely this just means we’d be in a better negotiating position to push for a better deal?I hope this doesn't come back to bite us down the line but he's not exactly a player who struggles to find a club if we wanted to sell at a later date.
That reminds me, where is that fake football agent bell end on Twitter?
He's signed till 2020. My projection was that in a year or two's time and if we're not heading to the Prem the club will realise they've got an unaffordable player in the ranks and will renegotiate his contract. As with the three players I mentioned, the only way they would be able to make this attractive to an ageing player would be by extending his contract on a reduced wage.
So, this will take us to around 2022 when he will be 37.
In two year’s time his contract will be up (or he’ll be in the last 6 months anyway)
Bit of a stupid decision to give him such a long one, he'll be 35 wen it's over.
