But that’s like saying Ibrahimich is a world class player, so Man United should have gifted PSG an extra £10 million.

The fact is that Leonard will be available on a FREE in 6 months.
The length of a players contract has a significant affect on the valuation.
Southend will get nothing and Leonard himself will be counting on a huge pay rise in 6 months.

Can a club like Southend afford to turn away even £500,000?

What I don’t understand is whether their chairman has money. I saw an article about him mortgaging his house to keep Southend going. Now I can’t imagine they will get the same money as offered in August, so when does someone step in and take the decision away from him .

Considering our midfield issues. I wouldn’t surprised if the deal is not agreed before the end of December

Agreed. We cannot afford to wait until the summer for a Freebie! I would expect we will pay whatever they ask this time - it seems RL is our number 1 choice.

It could all be done and dusted for all we know. I cannot see RL taking much time to decide on terms either. He must be as fed up as our manager is with this saga.

I expect RL to be announced as the first signing of the JTW

We will have a valuation and not pay over that.He also must be on low wages as the contract he's currently on was from Southend 2ND division days and that would be peanuts compared to what he would be on with us.

You assume this as you cannot possibly know 100% :)

It seems their chairman believes they can. What we can't really afford is to haggle over a couple of hundred thousand for the next month while we're losing games. If we keep losing then by the time the JTW gets to and end we may as well not bother because our promotion hopes will be over. Southend can afford to wait until the end of January.

If there is another player of similar ability who wants to play for us and is available for £500k, let's get that deal done. If there isn't, then we suck it up and pay what Southend want.

I would think Southend would want to strengthen before the window shuts after losing there best player so it's in there interests to get the deal completed as soon as possible

Egyptian lad @ Port Vale may be worth a look !?

If that's the case then we can expect him to be here soon then.

It looks like Ron is running out of patience with some of the players/manager but Lenny is still held in high regard by him.

I reckon the deal will be done soon if you hit the magic figure, and no I don't have a clue what that figure is. Because Wilder has maintained his interest it wouldn't surprise me if other Championship clubs are now keeping a watchful eye on the situation.

In August Millwall were allegedly competing with us then went and bought Saville instead (scored a few, good luck to him). There's not exactly been a stampede of interest from elsewhere since, so do we see something no one else seems interested in?

He's hardly going to say he's playing shit when he's trying to get the best fee for him, is he?

^ This is promising (although incredibly subtle).

(Bullet73's posted ITK stuff in the past)

hasn't it been virtually nailed on since we went back early December with a cash offer?

Southend are just taking us to the cleaners as they know they have us over a barrel.

I've heard the same from another one of these "so-called" reliable sources - in no way can i verify it though.

So as-you-were really :)

Are rumours of the Brown losing the dressing room true Roots? I think either way Leonard will be coming to us, as a promotion push looks unlikely now, and surely whether we hit the magic figure or not, you'd be daft to turn down out latest offer, unless he thinks there may be other interest in the player. Can't see him going for more than £700,000 but might be wrong. We got Lundstram for a similar fee and he was under contract till 2018 and was also the player of the season for Oxford, so very similar circumstances to Leonard.
