Deck chair shuffling in the boardroom, reversing recent, much publicised steps.

Sudden, mid-season (and mid-budget ?) loans.

Unforeseen "Director of Football"(ish) appointment, as yet with no publicly declared brief.

Bugger all in the way of clarification from the club.

All on the cusp of a fairly crucial transfer window.

Something is definitely afoot. Let's hope it's goodstuff, not shitstuff.

Absolute gaaaarrrbage from the ITKers. Sort ! It ! Aaarrrt !

Just on all this, I have just found a fag packet (how much do they cost these days?), and done some rough sums.

So last season, difficult to work out because of the cup matches, but at just short of £8m, it means we got around £15.71 per person who came through turnstiles. This season we know that season ticket prices were up slightly overall and matchday prices have gone up by a bit. Our average attendance so far this season is 26,123 compared to 21,892 last season. With some big attendance to come, if we hold to around 27,000 for this season, and manage to increase the spend per head to around £16, it means matchday revenue will increase to around £10m.

Media revenue we know last year was £1.9m. We know this increase by £4m automatically due to the premier league payments in the Championship. Means that this will be around £6.5 million for the season.

Other revenues are around £2 million a year meaning that total revenues for this season (without a good cup run) will come in at about £19 million (up from £11.6 million).

So the costs......

We know under league one equivalent of FFP then we could not spend more than 65% of revenue on players wages (with exception of academy players and a few other bits). It means the players wages could not have been more than £7.5 million against around £2 million for other staff (means playing staff wages were on average around £79,000 per year compared to around £20,000 per year for all the other staff).

We know that there were increases in the playing wages due to promotion this year (was 50% mentioned somewhere?), plus we have improved contracts for a number of players and new signings on better wages than those that have gone out.

We would be second guessing but I suspect wage bill will be up to around £12-13 million this season as a minimum. Running cost we know last year were £5 million or so and these will have increased this year with higher matchday expenses etc and more costs involved in a higher league.

In other words, at best we are in a break even situation but in reality losing £2-3 million in a stand still situation.

The interesting footnote in the accounts show that we paid £1.762 million in transfer fees in the summer and we have received £7 million in transfer fees for the sell-ons of Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire. The interview with Prince earlier in the season stated that the £5 million difference would allow the club to break even this year which does actually make sense given the above figures and if I have overestimated the media revenues, which is probable.

Anyway, throwing the fags away now.

Meant to add on my previous post - don't know the answer - does the £5m loss from last season count towards the £39 million over three seasons we are allowed to lose in the championship or do we start from zero this season? Sean Thornton

Loans took out by McCabe on the property side not the football side of things ,will be financing for the new flats and commercial units ,standard practice in that sector .

Could be that the two owners aren't getting on, both are refusing to put any more money in as a result and therefore they've had to go to an unusual bank for dosh.
While it's interesting to hear about intermediaries putting in vague bids for Brooks, it would be a lot more interesting for the Star to report on what's going on behind the scenes.

There are not many businesses that I can think of that go on losing money year after year. It is truly a funny old game

It isn’t. SUFC have taken out the loans not SU Limited which is the McCabe company that owns the ground.

My guess is that it is cash for transfers, hopefully a very short requirement.

Not being a financial expert, what reason's could there be for not being able to borrow from a commercial bank and is this something to be concerned about?

(The above is assuming the article is correct)
The article is correct and you won’t find any High Street bank lending to a football club now because they mainly lose buckets of money with high risk of default.

I would love to know how much we’ve borrowed for how long.

Quite right, just ask the Cooperative Bank about their experience of lending to football clubs.

I'm not a massive fan of McCabe and some of the carry ons we have had in his time (BT sale, Robson, Walker sale etc) but I acknowledge the contributions he has made to the club, keeping us afloat etc.

I do wonder though, what his ultimate ambition is. I get the whole argument it's "his money so he can do what he wants with it " - but football is a business where you have to speculate to acumulate. If he isnt going to do this, or cant afford to do so, then it makes me wonder what his aim actually is. I do think the stranglehold he has on the club has put off potential investment (and yes, likely equally put off chancers like the Blackburn owners).

In terms of the support this window - we dont know exactly the extent of the budget is but I wasnt sure CW sounded amazingly positive when asked by Giddings (and people close to the club have said for a while, it's small). The board as a whole must realise that the higher up you want to go, the more money you have to spend.

They fight a duel at Norfolk Park at dawn tomorrow. Get it on Twitter.

Got a degree in it mate
I’m not debating whether or not McCabe can afford it with the current finances , just saying if he doesn’t have a pot to pee in maybe he should find someone who can . Barnsley have just been took over by a billionaire Christ sake

I heard a rumour that Barnsley college are preparing a planning application to build student flats on a town centre site.

Also.heard that there may be Chinese money involved ;)

Like talking to a bunch of 5 year olds on here, merely suggesting if McCabe and the prince are skint find someone who isn’t

It's that easy ain't it,rich billionaires are falling over themselves to buy out our co owners.

You come across as a simpleton, unable to grasp the fact that at this present time, there is no sugar daddy waiting in the wings

I am not really asking for that am I just a board who will back the manager a bit you know like the majority of the teams in the championship.

It’s pretty clear that McCabe and princey can’t and won’t so yes I would like them to sell to someone who has the ambition that would match us the fans and the club.

Or are you happy us turning into Ipswich
