What has that got to do with reasoned debate?

I have two straight mates who are into decoupage and landscape gardening and they are brilliant conversationalists. Granted they run like fuck at the first sign of bother but....
You might think someone putting #hategaymoderndayfootball is reasoned debate.

I don't

If they knocked about with the martial arts and boxer, all bases would be covered

Anyone who doesn’t think it was a straight red is an idiot.

The tackle in the Leeds game was far worse
That was a shocker and should have been a red card. Because it wasn’t given as a red card doesn’t mean everyone has the right to steam in like that thereafter, it means the red saw it differently/was looking the other way/was being a bit shit.

#hatecasualhomophobia

Had a few to drink before the OP so apologies if I've upset anyone .... #hatemoderndayprimadonnafootball if that's better for all the offended

As for Fleck's tackle I still class that as a fantastic tackle. For those who are defending the referee's poor decision, are you telling me football is now a non-contact sport? <shakes head> time for football to pack in now if that's the case, why don't they just drop the name and start referring to it as fannyball??

You gone from upsetting the gay community to upsetting the fairer sex,lol

Would have expected gay football to have more contact not less :)
Nothing Gay about it mate...he got a Straight red....coats on.

Ahh..just seen ST's similar post..apologies.

I reckon those chicken nugget things are made from beaks, and other mechanically extracted chicken flesh parts - despite what they would have you believe.

I don't eat them.

great tackle v Bristol #properfootball, #hategaymoderndayfootball
I agree with you pal great tackle he won the ball them caught the lad low as Wilder says it's a contact sport, it wasn't as if it was halfway up is leg. Tackling is getting took out of the game. You look at the tackle on Coults no foul no yellow card the lads out for 6 months it's laughable. We will miss Fleck in the next 3 games he's irreplaceable, He's the best midfielder we've had at the lane for years.

Sorry that's wrong. Crab Industries buys all the beaks for their 100% chicken, Chicken Nodules range. A necessity as wattle is so expensive.

But it's not the extent of the resultant injury that decides whether or not it is a booking.

I don't understand the double standards that says this tackle was ok because Fleck was committed and won the ball, despite being dangerous, but the attempted block of Coutts' shot was akin to attempted murder. A case of red and white tinted spectacles.

It looked like a fifty-fifty challenge to me. The ref whipped out the red card very quickly and never game himself thinking time. He could have had a word with the linesmen and fourth official first.

Who would have also said ‘yeah, that’s a red card’

I think too many on this thread have watched too much match of the day with all this letter of the law b***ocks. I don't watch the programme anymore due to stuff like ex-professionals trying to justify some diabolical refereeing decisions, why don't they come out with that law stinks it should be changed back to what it used to be. Football is fast turning, if it isn't already, into a non-contact sport. When a honest tackle like Fleck's on Friday is getting a red then it really is time for the game to have a long hard look at itself ... and if it's still happy with itself then they can turn out the lights as far as I'm concerned.

You can say it’s “letter of the law bollocks”, but it’s simply the rules as they are. Simon Moore isn’t going to get any sympathy from me if he decides to pick-up a backpass to him next week because in the good old days (whenever they were) you could do so. All the players are aware of the rules. In Fleck’s case, he will know that going in for a challenge with both feet off the ground is likely to result in a red card.

ALL of our lads need to be cuter .. this isn’t L1
i’ve been a little surprised with the amount of gamesmanship in the champ..diving, timewasting, beards, tattoos perma tans.. premiership rejects with the habits to go with it

Agree with some of what you said , but to say rightly sent off is plainly stupid, it was tough challenge that we want to see our plays comit, that will to win it’s what makes us United. He won the ball , the other player neshed the challenge and got hurt, sorry for him but he wimped out.

I know it’s all about opinions, but I’m afraid “to say rightly sent off is plainly stupid” is simply incorrect. You can argue it wasn’t a red, but to argue that it was is far from stupid. Off the ground, studs up, two feet, potential ankle-breaker.

In case you disagree, from Fifa:

“A tackle or challenge for the ball that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality; punishable by a sending-off (red card).”

I am amazed anyone can argue it wasn’t a red, and although I wouldn’t call the argument stupid, I still don’t see how anyone could make it. It was an easy decision for the ref.

Agreed, there's a few comments along the lines of the guy having to go off but wagering he'll play again soon. Baldock got cut in half at Leeds. Red card all day long for me. He dusted himself down and carried on. It was more luck that he wasn't hit on a firmly planted leg or saw it coming and got partly out of the way (possible as it was so late). It doesn't have to break someone's leg to be a red card. There's some very strange justifications being used.

No complaints at Fleck being sent off for that challenge. I agree it's a contact sport and full blooded challenges are part and parcel but a two footed challenge when he's off the ground is dangerous and is a red card by the laws of the game.

Everybody who is saying the Leeds challenge was worse......YOU ARE CORRECT! But that doesn't mean that Fleck shouldn't have been sent off! The inconsistency of referees is nothing new, and unfortunately it won't go away any time soon either.

I think you have misunderstood my meaning about 'loads of tackles'. Had their player been a split second later then no one would have even noticed. As happens plenty of times in the game.

In my opinion, a great tackler is as instinctive in his timing and precision as a great striker is at poaching goals. But as the ability relies on instinctive reactions rather than any pre-meditation, poor tackles can happen. I don't think we should take the art of a great tackle out of the game, reckless tackles yes, but I don't think Fleck was being reckless
The opposition player was irrelevant to the sending off though.
Fleck launched himself 2-footed, through the air.
Even if he hadn't have made contact, he should have been sent off (although in reality probably wouldn't have been)
Fleck probably misread the pace/distance of the ball and had to put the extra effort into reaching.
Whatever the reason it was a 'reckless challenge' and rightly punished with a red card. :(

The way I see it and l be believe most loyal blades do is that no united player should get sent off if he doesn’t deliberately go to injure an opponent.
I honestly don’t think Fleck did. So from my point he didn’t deserve to get sent off.
