Bonkers.
For me & as we’re in 2017, it’s far from a great tackle. Wind the clock back 15-20 years & maybe.
As for seeing “loads of tackles almost identical to this one in every game” - really? Where were the rest of them then on Fri night? We see lots of good tackles - not ones where the player is off the ground going in with 2 feet & studs up. Look at the rules of the game - it’s a sending off.
Keep saying it along with others, if that tackle had have been ON Fleck, people would not have been on here saying “great tackle”.
Don’t get me wrong - I think Fleck’s a great player & don’t believe there was any malice in the tackle. But it was red & I think Fleck knew it. We won’t appeal as there’s no point.
Yes - football’s a contact sport and the rules are there to stop it being a dangerous one. Sadly that tackle was classed as dangerous.
It’s a risk combative midfielders like Fleck run when they play - knowing a slight mis-time or overstretch for the ball can lead to this.
Shame. We’ll miss him for sure.
Word for word what I was thinking. Have a gold star.I think Fleck is our best player after Coutts, but there was nothing heroic about that. Stupid, reckless tackle that probably cost us 3 points. He should know better and he was rightly sent off. Could have broken their guy’s ankle and were it a tackle on one of our players, people on here would want the culprit hung at dawn.
He’s been phenomenal for us so I don’t want to over-criticise, but I don’t want to celebrate him for it either.
(You also shouldn't use gay in that context, but I see the point you’re trying to make).
I think you have misunderstood my meaning about 'loads of tackles'. Had their player been a split second later then no one would have even noticed. As happens plenty of times in the game.
In my opinion, a great tackler is as instinctive in his timing and precision as a great striker is at poaching goals. But as the ability relies on instinctive reactions rather than any pre-meditation, poor tackles can happen. I don't think we should take the art of a great tackle out of the game, reckless tackles yes, but I don't think Fleck was being reckless

Only post of value in this thread.#hatecasualhomophobia
Two things that are wrong with the opening post.
It wasn't a great tackle, it was studs up and not in control, he could have broken his leg, - what would you be saying if it was the other way round?
It's not V Bristol - it's V Bristol City -
In the same way we are not Sheffield but Sheffield United.

3 things actually.Only post of value in this thread.
Don’t need that kind of language from the OP.
You're right and well done to the other two for pointing that out, I didn't notice it as I didn't get past the Bristol thing!!
Sorry got to disagree.
Fleck was an idiot, he caught the player both feet off the ground Red all day.
He more than likely cost us 3 points on Friday, we were miles on top they never really looked like scoring and were poor.
He is also now going to miss 3 games at a time when we are already short in midfield.
All for a tackle made virtually in the middle of the pitch. I could part understand it if their player was in our box and about to shoot and he was trying to block the shot, but their player was nowhere near our goal and posing no real threat.
I get what some are saying about it being a mans game and all that but players now days know the rules you just can't do tackles like that anymore.
He got the ball first , and not high , so what’s the problem
It looked like a fifty-fifty challenge to me. The ref whipped out the red card very quickly and never game himself thinking time. He could have had a word with the linesmen and fourth official first.
What has that got to do with reasoned debate? You're right and well done to the other two for pointing that out, I didn't notice it as I didn't get past the Bristol thing!!
I would like him to meet a couple of gay friends of mine to explain what he means.
One is a martial arts expert and the other is a boxer
