2 Corsairs, a Standard Van, 2 Commer Vans, a Mini and a woman about to attempt ritual suicide...

You are right about Doyle and TC but the keeper is McAlister and number 11 is Bone
My old man, he was in his early 20s, 1950s, a Hungarian immigrant living in Walkley, proudly showing off his first ever car. Something he could never have dreamed of back in Hungary. He was later a regular at BDTBL.
United players L to R Hope, Currie and Reece lost 2-1 scorer Dearden.
Are you sure it's not the October 71 game when we won 2-1
I'm not arguing, just interested![]()

I was at both matches
Can still remember Rodney Marsh for City going in with studs up and breaking Tommo's leg. Kop end and the lad was in agony.
Noticing the flags at the bottom, it must be the same day as West Germany v Uruguay match at Hillsborough for the 1966 World Cup quarter final match at Hillsborough?

I remember feeling during that match that Uruguay were the dirtiest side I had ever seen, and I never understood how that game could be seen as part of a conspiracy against South American teams, carried out largely by European referees. Brazil, on the other, were treated badly, and Argentina claimed they were. I was never convinced by the Argentinian claim, but a few years later I was lucky enough to meet Rattin, who had been sent off at Wembley and became a hate figure in the press. He was absolutely charming, though with me at least, he gently kept away from the subject of Wembley.Great spot that Silent. There are also flags on display behind Robert Brothers. Suppose those staying at the Grosvenor woke up to see them.
Just been looking at the Everton v Wednesday cup final programme in 1966 and it states that the quarter final at Hillsborough would be between Winner of group 4 (Russia?) v runner up of group 3 (Hungary?). Wonder what made them alter the fixture to West Germany v Uruguay.
Must admit when the World Cup was on in 1966 Sheffield did seem to have a continental feel about it. Although that photo probably contradicts that thought.
The flags are positively cosmopolitan for Sheffield in 1966.

Looking at the attachments from Man.City there are three pieces of evidence pointing to the fact attachment 34039 is in fact 23 Aug '71.Look in both links

The boots worn by both goalkeepers, socks worn by Man. City and the condition of the covering over the terracing. Also I believe United's number 11 is Gill Reece although I have no tangible evidence for that belief.
We only missed out on Europe by goal difference.
TL. DRI think that in 1914/15 we were quite heavily involved in Europe.
The British lads started okay but the Germans pushed forward and the French teams were very much on the back foot. Stalemate for much of the game and after the Germans put everything into a late offensive, we caught them on the counter and got over the line.
Should you wish to debase 14-18 even further, then here is WWI as a pub brawl:
Germany, Austria and Italy are standing together in the middle of a pub when Serbia bumps into Austria and spills Austria's pint. Austria demands Serbia buy it a complete new suit because there are splashes on its trouser leg. Germany expresses its support for Austria's point of view. Britain recommends that everyone calm down a bit.
Serbia points out that it can't afford a whole suit, but offers to pay for the cleaning of Austria's trousers. Russia and Serbia look at Austria. Austria asks Serbia who it's looking at. Russia suggests that Austria should leave its little brother alone. Austria inquires as to whose army will assist Russia in compelling it to do so. Germany appeals to Britain that France has been looking at it, and that this is sufficiently out of order that Britain should not intervene. Britain replies that France can look at who it wants to, that Britain is looking at Germany too, and what is Germany going to do about it?
Germany tells Russia to stop looking at Austria, or Germany will render Russia incapable of such action. Britain and France ask Germany whether it's looking at Belgium. Turkey and Germany go off into a corner and whisper.
When they come back, Turkey makes a show of not looking at anyone. Germany rolls up its sleeves, looks at France, and punches Belgium. France and Britain punch Germany. Austria punches Russia. Germany punches Britain and France with one hand and Russia with the other. Russia throws a punch at Germany, but misses and nearly falls over. Japan calls over from the other side of the room that it's on Britain's side, but stays there. Italy surprises everyone by punching Austria.
Austria Australia punches Turkey, and gets punched back. There are no hard feelings because Britain made Austria Australia do it. France gets thrown through a plate glass window, but gets back up and carries on fighting. Russia gets thrown through another one, gets knocked out, suffers brain damage, and wakes up with a complete personality change. Italy throws a punch at Austria and misses, but Austria falls over anyway.
Italy raises both fists in the air and runs round the room chanting. America waits till Germany is about to fall over from sustained punching from Britain and France, then walks over and smashes it with a barstool, then pretends it won the fight all by itself. By now all the chairs are broken and the big mirror over the bar is shattered. Britain, France and America agree that Germany threw the first punch, so the whole thing is Germany's fault. While Germany is still unconscious, they go through its pockets, steal its wallet, and buy drinks for all their friends.
TL. DR
Number 11 is Jim Bone and number 4 is Ian MacKenzie. Both didnt play in the 1971 gameLooking at the attachments from Man.City there are three pieces of evidence pointing to the fact attachment 34039 is in fact 23 Aug '71.

Think soIs that taken on the Bramall Lane end?,
Correct, apology, Freudian slip on my part but well' not go into that one.You mean October 1971?
Doesn't look like Gil Reece to me.
I believe that Man City's socks from '71 to Sept'72 were sky blue, maroon turn overs and two white hoops. In 1973 Man City apparently and astonishingly wore, royal blue socks with red turn overs and one white hoop. Regarding the goalkeepers boots. In attachment 34039 the goalkeepers boots look clean, almost new and the day looks bright, whereas the other photo for, apparently the same match the goalkeepers boots look well worn and as Woody pointed out with some ankle protection. Third thing, the terrace covering. My thoughts were that there seemed to some work being done on the covering in '71 and if 34039 was '73 it seemed unlikely to have been going on for that length of time. I would respectfully suggest that 34039 has mistakenly been placed for the wrong match by the Man City people, but they are Lancastrians when all said and done. May I also take this opportunity to say, THANK YOU, to all on this site, admin and those who contribute posts for the pleasure, entertainment and knowledge it gives me.Look in both links
