This isn’t a panic thread at all, far from it. We are in a great position and if anybody had offered us this at the start of the season we would’ve bitten their arm off.
Just can’t help but think that we are about to find out just how good a manager CW is.
Taking nothing away from him, it’s all well and good managing when your team’s winning every week. But now we have a few players out injured in key positions and picked up one point in the last 3 games. This is where he earns his money and this is where we find out just how good a manager he is in my opinion. How does he pick the players up and rebuild the confidence which must’ve taken a knock? How does he handle himself? Does he change the tactics?

Again, not panicking, just think we could be heading for a tricky spell which could potentially really test him. He’s had a lot of positives in his short management career, it’s how you come back from the negatives which defines you as a player or manager.
I can’t think of any really low points for him as manager other than the start of last season. Am I wrong?

Anyway, how do you lot see him reacting and behaving if we go on a winless run?

First thread, be gentle.

Good point, but I think his biggest test was following our previous trip to Millwall. Bottom of League One and he looked a broken man in post match interviews. We have done far better than we thought this season. Enjoy the fantastic football we have seen, promotion would be an unexpected bonus.

He's had tests before, he's passed them before.
Lost 3 of first 4 last season.
Mid season Walsall-induced hic-cup
Lost 2 of first 3 this season, now this Coutts-induced hic-cup
Based on that, I have no fears.
It may take a little while to re-build but re-build he will.....knee-jerk reactions aside.

Have no fear. CW will see it all ends reight.

So you're panicking then ? :-)

I read things.

Body language. What’s said. How it’s said.

The perfectly harmonious squad that we are consistently told exists, the great team spirit, the “we are all in it together” mentality. All perfectly believable. On the pitch performances reflected it.

All perfectly believable, until last week.

Something’s gone off. No idea what. Somethings disrupted the “harmony”.

Hope the gaffer gets it back !

Not sure I agree this is his biggest test yet.
His start at United was very tough and had the potential to turn sour before it even got going. Prior to that keeping a Northampton team fired up and winning whilst they weren't being paid and the club was on the verge of financial collapse must have taken its toll. He can through that with flying colours.

As things stand we are 4th in the Championship, only missing 3rd on goal difference. Hardly a position to be concerned about.

Dare I suggest it's the 'Brooks' effect?
Or maybe that Billy's nose is a bit out of joint because Leeeeeoon has been taking all the plaudits?

800 league games as a manager, how many games in a "short management career"?; never been sacked, just might have been doing something right in bad spells or have his teams been "winning every week" over all those years?

What will he do? He'll look for the hardest workers in training whose heads are still up for the fight and he'll pick them.

If they perform well for him he'll tell them so and if they don't he'll tell them so.

If they keep at it during the harder times he'll reward them with new contracts and team places. If they don't he'll replace them in the JTW or next summer.

He's in stage 2 of a massive rebuild and he is experienced enough to know what's what and what's needed.

How did this happen though?
Because as I remember it, before Wilder stepped in, mostly the same players certainly weren't winning every week ;)

A bit of bollocks creeping in here. It’s a tough league and we will lose games, especially when injury hit. Looking for disharmony and managerial mistakes is to assume everything is in a manager’s control. It isn’t - opponents are sometimes going to make us look poor.

The trends are good and we’ve little to fret over. Be reyt.

I think part of the problem is we've built Wilder up to be a superhuman and think he's infallible. So at the first sign that he's just a bloke, just another manager, albeit a good one, we panic. Our early success raised expectations and now there's a balancing out. A fairly inevitable one given we don't carry a big squad of quality players. At some point we were going to suffer from injuries and loss of form to players; no player is at the top of their game, every game.

The biggest test for Wilder is to keep seeing things as a manager and not a fan.

The panic amongst some is hardly surprising after this seasons good initial results made similar fans expectations go through the roof as early as September.

This isn`t a panic thread, but, followed by the somethings gone off behind the scenes,ha ha ha

It was difficult not to get carried away and we've been a bit unlucky with both the number of injuries and losing both RBs plus a key player. But these things can happen and that's why getting off to a good start was important, if we'd been mid table and dropped the number of points we have over the last three games we might have something to really worry about.

His biggest challenge is to get mcabe and prince to give him whatever cash he needs to take it to the next level. After this last year, we should be looking at much better players than the likes of Ryan Leonard. A year ago that was fine, but the current squad needs some experienced quality in there. If that means we need to spend 8-10 million, it has to be done. Failure to back Wilder will mean he’ll leave sooner rather than later. Failure to back wilder will mean mcabe is not ambitious and has been lying to the fans. The club has a very special manager (something Mcabe got right), like Wilder said, the club must match his ambition, if not he will call them out over it, then Mcabe will look like a right tit (again). Do whatever it takes to back CW. End of. UTB

The only way the owners have a chance of getting their money back is by promotion to the PL. Failure to spend won't be down to a lack of ambition, more a case of not having that cash available for transfers plus the wages that go with it.

I hope I'm wrong.

And going from getting carried away to quickly reverting to slating 3/4 players. All signed or loaned by CW.

Why should his nose be out of joint or shall I say why should we put it out of Johny. Captain and 8 goals. With him in the side we have two real goal threats and without him one.

When we don’t win a few suddenly it’s not a team game.

Leon didn’t score at the weekend so let’s drop him for billy. Is that how this works?

Wait a minute.....so McCabe and the Prince DON'T have a bottomless pot of money????? Quite frankly I'm shocked and appalled as this is not what I was led to believe by people on this forum.

Well, if you two hadn't attached this catalogue to the bottom of your letter to Santa, maybe we could but Ricky Leonard and Devante Cole...

Luckily for Leon, Billy and the Boy David, there are at least four scapegoats already to take the heat.

Not be long before Wilder is a flash in the pan and another McCabe mistake.

CCV and Blackman are both rubbish,Wilder has been found out,now he has got a new contract,JOC is out on the lash every night,Brooks comes into training in a chauffeur driven limo, and with a personal bodyguard, things are most definitely not right behind the scenes.

This is from my mates mate, who works up at Shirecliffe,he told me not to say anything, but i feel it is important we know why our season is crumbling

I've heard Stearman had a fight with himself Lundstram wears his jumper over his shoulders and over on Porktalk it says Billy let's his kids talk to SamHutchinsons kids.

Sort it McCabe.

Good to see that "body language" is the way to tell what's up though.

We were slating opposition fans for not giving us credit earlier in the season for our performances, why don’t we stop being contradictory and praise how the other teams are setting up and playing against us instead of looking for bollocks at our club that just isn’t there?

We have one or two injury problems which we have to be patient and give time for Wilder and co to sort out, it won’t be sorted overnight and if anyone hasn’t already noticed January is only around the corner if it can’t be sorted indoors.
