Lundstrum

quietly just getting on with the job
but what a solid lump to anchor the defence round
cracking piece of business from Wilder and Knill

sort of like a Stancliffe sort but one whos been pumping iron, and can pass
not much if anything gets past him doing all the donkey work for those around him

one cog in the machine that drives us on, steady as a rock

Thanks for the post Mrs Lundstram..

However, if you're going to start such a self-conglatulary thread - at least spell your husband's name correctly...

He’s sits deeper than the other midfielders doing the defensive midfield role that we wanted Leonard at Southend to do.

That role is probably the least glamorous and most under appreciate position in football.

But you’re right, much of the good stuff for that role goes under the radar and I’ve not seen enough to give a proper opinion yet.

Invented by Jamie Hoyland, the original unseen work artist

He doesnt need to sit deep, he is supposed to be alongside the other Central Midfielder, and he cant find forward gear most of the time

I'd like to see him a lot more and also see a lot more from him. So far he's been very average

He's done what he's been asked to do. Wilder certainly believes in him when putting him on towards the end of a game.

He's not a Coutts or a Fleck and any comparison to them is a bit daft.
No I wasn't implying that he was Coutts or Fleck.

I am not convinced that he has done what he's been asked to do when he comes on late, but then again its very hard to get up to speed when coming into a game late and your team are under pressure.

However, I'd be interested in his pass completion stats when he comes on, he's does seem to give it away a bit.

Can't comment on QPR game as i didn't see it, but Forest he was ok, but that was all.

My comment wasn't aimed at your post, more a general observation.

This is where we all go "how can he be unsung if he's hardly played?" and BTL accuses us all of moaning and never happy and even if we win 10-0 every week some moaners will never be happy.

Or something like that.

Absolutely. He comes on to hold the line shoring up midfield so it's fair to assume CW emphasises he needs extra defensive muscle. This doesn't mean he isn't capable of more positive play, but that isn't why he comes on as sub so he'd soon find himself getting bollocked if he came on all gung ho.

The lad's got some bottle about him. Gets stuck in, doesn't hide, and clearly has some ability.

Again, I have to agree.

His biggest 'problem' is that he hasn't had enough game time to get used to La Liga. 20 minutes here and there are a start but to judge him fairly he proabably needs a run of atleast 3 -4 starts. At the moment, injuries aside, he won't get that.

Oxford fans that live near me (I live in High Wycombe these days) tell me that Lundstram is best as an attacking midfielder ala Duffy. He can play anywhere across the middle though.

They say he possesses a great first touch, good technique and a few fancy tricks. They are gutted he's left them.

Some have gone as far as to say he is one the best players they have ever seen in a U's shirt!

If what they say is correct (and I don't know) then a run in the side could lead to us actually seeing the real John Lundstram and then we can fairly evaluate. I'm prepared to give him time and the benefit of the doubt. Wilder knows a player and he's worked with him before.

While I find it difficult to agree with btl's OP in its odd gushing praise for doing... well... not all that much, I find the converse of that fucking hilarious.

He's done absolutely fine when he's been called upon, but you still get jokers borderline writing the lad off.

At least we haven't got a history at the Lane of writing players off, only to see Wilder entrust them and turn them into integral cogs.

Oh.

its not an accolade just an appreciation hes fitting into the system well and is sound if not a game changer
teams need a safe go to player to fill in gaps

hes doing whats asked of him and as such is very much part of any success we are enjoying

What Duffy does is obvious , but its based on the fact he can rely on those behind him

Its a squad game now and we often play 14 players , if people are too stupid to see how important these roles are to our game plan thats not my problem

I'm confused. The guy's clearly not had enough game time to a) receive the accolade received from the O.P. and b) receive criticism for not being good enough.

Sadly he has already had plenty of option b.

IIRC one of our brethren on here may even have made him 'wanker of the week'.

For me he's been steady and gradually improving without being spectacular. Seems a safe, reliable squad player to come in for the odd game for Fleck our Coutts when they're out. He doesn't give us as much as they do but let's be reyt, such a player would probably cost £5million or so.

Do you reckon you`ve seen enough of him to form a balanced judgement. He`s hardly had much game time.

Don't put words like 'balanced' in there.

Our boo-boys are already sensing a new victim and having seen him playing the odd few minutes here and there, they have made their minds up.
