Missed three great chances, 2 of them sitters in my book, and scored 4 goals with terrific finishes.

Funny old game !

While Leon deserves all the credit in the world, and will rightly take the plaudits, let’s not dismiss the fact the Hull defence capitulated 2nd half.

Despite words like "terrific" and "deserves" theres still a certain transparency there.

Can someone find the posts from this time last year where people were saying how shit he was?! There were a few in disagreement at the time but not many. Still a few with an axe to grind against him but they are slowly eating their words. I'm glad we've got 2 players as shit as Sharp and Clarke in the squad.

Mad thing for me is the chances he took were the difficult ones and fluffed a couple of more routine ones!

It's not just the goals today for Leon its his all round game. Holding up, winning 50/50's, finding other players, movement off the ball - it is just all happening for him at the moment and it is a joy to watch.

All right then.

Honestly, without bias, appraise Leon’s performance for the first 52 minutes ?

UTB

Better than Billy?

(And I'm not knocking Sharps performance even though you are still attempting to prove your posts about Clarke not being good enough have some merit)

Without bias

Not wanting to take anything away from Leon this season (or the back end of last year), he's been brilliant and this is all since he got fit and The Wilder/Knill effect took hold. I has me thinking, what could be on the horizon with Ched, once he's fully fit? Mouthwatering stuff.

Have to be in the right place in the first case to miss chances. Four goals from seven chances is a decent return, but he gives so much to the side besides goalscoring. He’s made everybody who called his ability into question look very stupid.

Not convinced.
I mean, he might have got 4 but should have scored 7.
Fluked the first. Can’t even remember the 2nd. 3rd was harder to miss & 4th was just plain lucky.
And all that running about? He was just keeping warm - he even had his gloves on.
And what’s all that celebrating with different parts of the ground? Anyone’d think the fans actually liked him.
Send him to Mansfield on loan.

NOT !!!!!!!
Leon was absolutely amazing today. I’ll say it again - AMAZING. They just could not handle him. Privilege to be there to see it.
Leon - thank you!

Look.

Bottom line is over the 90 minutes he was on the pitch, he scored 4. MOM stuff on that alone.

Similar to Wilder, when he was full of praise after a defeat at Forest, and somewhat negative after a stunning win away at Leeds, I believe I am old enough and wise enough to pass constructive criticism when it’s merited.

Leon’s significant contribution over the first 52 minutes was to miss 2, maybe 3 sitters, miss control the ball, or turnover possession with a misdirected pass. Watch it back !

Now.

If he does exactly this in the next game, but is equally unplayable in the final 1/3 of the game, I’ll take that all day long.

The relatively poor 52 minutes are long forgotten, everyone is happy and it’s Peroni time. No doubts.

But I’d be lying if his performance in the first half, and the beginning of the 2nd, wasn’t frustrating in the extreme.

If Leon was brutally honest, I believe he would admit as much.

I know this point of view will leave me in a minority of 1. Cest la vie. I’ll call it how I see it.

But make no mistake, my judgement over the 90 minutes, which ultimately is what it’s about, was Leon contributing massively to the Cheshire Cat style grin emblazoned across my dial as I left the ground. Joyous.

Very very very well done Mr Clarke.

Personally thought Leon was having a great game first 52 mins and wouldn't judge him on the missed chances

Billy Sharp barely touched the ball and I thought he had a good game

It's all opinions I guess

Maybe that's Leon's problem? ;)

You keep ignoring the critique.

Easy to hide behind the 4 goal hero.

UTB

PS he’s my 4 goal hero too. Considered that have you ?????

Do you mean the critique that is filled with reasons for why Clarke wasn’t that good today, despite being one of our best players (goals aside), in order to make you feel better about your initial opinion of him being so far off the mark?

I’m happy to continue ignoring critiques like that
