Managerial Mistake tonight.

I honestly think we may well have struggled even with the first eleven. Maybe CW thought that after seeing them against Wolves he decided to rest players for an unwinnable game?

Strange that Duffy was left out at the same time though.

or maybe i'm typing bollocks

Maybe, but with hindsight would have been better to have had Basham in midfield along with Coutts and Lundstrum ie with Brooks on the bench. There wasn't much football played tonight mainly long ball stuff.

Haha this has got to be a joke, when as Wilder EVER thought or has the ethos of the team been to think a game unwinnable,

Second time he's changed a winning team and we've lost, stick with the same team and change it if they get tired, not the other way round, taking Duffy and Sharp out after the Leeds game and that performance whilst missing Fleck i feel was a mistake, don't change a team whilst they're flying, we had an extra day recovery to them, we shouldn't be tired.

With fleck out of the team, taking Duffy out of the midfield too was a huge error.

Said exactly the same at half-time. Throw in that Coutts had a bit of an iffy 2nd half and that’s our holy trinity all absent at the same time.

If we wanted a reminded of how we used to play, this was it. Yes, in small spells we showed a glimmer of our usual stuff, but by and large we hit it long, we hit it aimlessly, and then tried to win the 2nd ball. We weren’t good at the former and were even worse at the latter. We might as well have gone full-Hanson if that had been the plan.

We clearly didn’t want to switch formation, so getting Duffy on for the injured Baldock constrained us a little in terms of going for it late on.

Just a really frustrating night that I hope we get out of our system immediately. I expect we will and this will be quickly forgotten.

Can't blame CW for changing things around...We can't play at the intensity we do Saturday/Tuesday without resting one or two.
We lost 1-0,another game Saturday to try and get back on track.

Duffy for Donaldson would have been a far better substitution.

Brooks for all his talent is not a midfielder. Yet.

Spot on Jay!

It's the problem with older players, they are more likely to struggle to play two matches a week and need resting. I'm surprised Clarke hasn't needed to be rested more lately to be honest.

I thought Brooks behind two strikers seemed very attacking. I wondered if Clarke would be the only central strikers with Brooks and Donaldson just behind him, but it was our usual 3-5-2 set up.

With Coutts, Fleck and Duffy we know they can make it work. They know each other well and all work hard. In the high pressure game against the pigs we played Basham with Coutts and Fleck, i.e. we went with a bit more solid midfield, when we decided to do something different. It also worked well. Maybe we should make that our midfield plan B, especially in away games.

Brooks roaming around Clarke with a stronger midfield (Basham,Coutts,Lundstram - or possibly Carruthers) could have solidified things a bit, while also making the game less open. It would look less attacking on paper, but it doesn't have to be, as shown by the four goals in the derby.

Although we dominated possession and had a very attacking line up on paper tonight we had only five shots, one on target (if BBC stats are correct). They looked reasonably comfortable in their own box and Baptiste was probably MoM.

Didn't we miss two absolute sitters, if we don't take chances like that in this league it will cost us, plus a freak goal for them in the course of which we had to sub our injured keeper. We have 33 games left an available 99 points left to gather, so if we lost 1 in every 4 as we did for last month we would lose for the remainder of the season 8.25 games (call it 8 (8.75 to be exact), 24 pts (26.25 ex), 99-24=75) add that 75 to our current pts tally of 30 =105....think I've got mi maffs right..twas always going to be a toughy against QPR

100% this.

This old, tired argument of 'don't change a winning team'

Few weeks ago we beat Ipswich without Paul Coutts. Next game against Reading Wilder brings back Coutts and we win.

Now I can't recall anybody then coming on here and complaining about Wilder changing a winning team.

Need to give it a rest. Trust Wilder.

This may only be a fans forum but this over the top criticism on here will eventually lead to unrest at matches. Then just watch the wheels come off.
