Dislocated kneecap. A dislocated kneecap is a common injury that normally takes about six weeks to heal.

It's often caused by a blow or a sudden change in direction when the leg is planted on the ground, such as during sports or dancing.

Brought to you by NHS Choices.

I would caution that if there’s significant ligament damage that it will be much longer. This wasn’t made in a low-impact incident – it was during a tackle. I would be amazed if there isn’t ligament damage.

Don't know what I was expecting but I assumed a dislocated knee requiring an ambulance and hospital visit. so id view this as a good sign, looks like the Club Dr has already popped it all back in.

Sadly it will probably be longer. 6 weeks would be for you and me to walk about. Different kettle of fish playing a fast paced contact sport.

If it was put back at the ground by the doctor they must be fairly confident there isn't serious ligament or tendon damage. If they had been torn they leave the patella displaced and repair the tendon/ligament damage and then relocate the patella, otherwise it keeps dislocating as it's the ligaments and tendons that keep it correctly sited. I played with someone who popped it and had it put back same day and he was back playing in about 8 weeks.

Fuck me, how he didnt need some gas if he dislocated his knee I’ll never know. Can’t think of anything more painful other than the return of Madkins !
Sure they gave him a whiiff of gas n air on the pitch before putting hiim on the stretcher

looks like Steve Austin

This is an excellent sign.
Big difference between:
1) “Kneecap dislocation” (patellar dislocation) - 6-8 weeks. May or may not involve damage to one of 4 main knee ligaments (often not).
2) “knee dislocation” (full on femoral-tibial dislocation) - 6-12 months - possibly career ending - can destroy anywhere between 2 and all 4 ligaments and often arteries and nerves as well.

Luckily number (2) is rare - I have seen it once in my career - and usually involves high speed impact (motor vehicle accident).

If he was seen with a brace in the car park it will definitely not be number (2).
So it’s probably number (1)+/- ligament damage.

If it does turn out that there is any ligament damage it could be anywhere from 2-6 months depending on what and how bad.

But if ligament damage was suspected he probably would’ve been sent to hospital (and not bothered to put his suit on first!).

I liked how their lad showed his concern and the way he was applauded off by all 4 sides. A touch of class that.
The Ipswich player was mcgoldrick who was mates with freeman at forest. I could tell by the look on his face he knew it was a serious injury to freeman. Class act from all 4 sides for the round of applause. Get better soon keiron freeman. Utb

Hope it’s not too serious.

When is Baldock likely to be back?

Just want to say that I thought Freeman was having a good game and covered a lot of ground. He also gave Lundstram an outlet quite often. Love Freeman so I hope his pain soon goes and we see him back, playing for us soon. GLTTL

And a bit mor on Coutsies injury....seems similar to Freemans.

He was named the 37th best player in the 2012–13 Football League Championship by the Actim Index.[29] Coutts 2013–14 pre-season was disrupted by injury and in late September, he dislocated a knee in a match against Leicester City and was expected to take at least five months to recover.

Don't go to Parsons Cross ever. Bill is in the post.

So we're running up to the 6-8 weeks return estimate that the club gave on 19th October. (club did day that there was still some swelling and he'd need another scan but they were relatively optimistic) Anyone heard how he's doing? It'd be a boost to the squad to have him back available.

Answering my own question, read an interview with George Baldock today which says Freeman is ruled out until after Christmas.
