My main problem with bad language is that you get morons who can't control themselves. Last season at the Scunny game we were sat on the South Stand and a bloke right behind my son shouted 'You Fucking Cunt' to the lino. I turned round and just asked him to tone it down as I didn't want my lad learning that at 6. Personally I don't think that's an unreasonable ask and the bloke apologised and did what I asked him to do, I think he still vented his anger just in a slightly less graphic manner!
I appreciate people are going to swear I just wonder if people can take a look round before the game and if there is someone young make a bit of effort to tone it down? Not a lot to ask and then everyone enjoys the game.
Part of parenting is explaining to your child that yes, they may hear lots of naughty words and no, it isn’t acceptable to repeat them. You can’t wrap them in cotton wool, just teach them the difference between right and left, and right and wrong. Asking everyone to tone it down in case your kid hears it is going a bit too far at a football match, I believe. And yes, I like a good old swear, but I’ve raised my 13 year old daughter to know what’s acceptable and what isn’t. I’ve not cosseted her from the world around us, or told other adults how to behave in public in case she hears something naughty.
Perhaps you could explain why repeating swear words your child hears isn’t a good thing? After all, it’s not a lot to ask.
